Won't that be just peachy?

  4. Worth checking on the DVLA website for VED and MOT, if it has neither you can get it towed - sounds like a dumper.

Think you're under a misapprehension there - emergency vehicles are only allowed to use blues and twos in an emergency. They will turn them off if they're not needed, so you might see an ambulance on a clear road come up to lights then turn their lights and sirens on and it looks as if they're just running the lights but they might well, for example, have a patient in the back who can't be transported over a certain speed but still needs to get to hospital quickly. When that happens they're actually lowering noise pollution by only using the siren when necessary. Having said that I did know a retired copper who, whenever he saw a police car with the B&T on, would comment, "Late for his tea!", but I'm pretty sure, especially with the advent of in-car video and trackers on emergency vehicles, it's very rarely abused nowadays.

Thoroughly agree. "Snake Oil" by John Diamond is a great read for those interested.

Ah - then more fool them! I had enough of a headache getting it sorted at a desk (I was admittedly a very bad temporary postman) let alone in a jolting van.
  9. Having done quite a few Christmas postal rounds, sorting is surprisingly difficult and needs considerable concentration to do quickly and efficiently - it's very easy to make mistakes which mess up your whole sequence. Asking staff to sort post on the hoof is ridiculous and not fair on them or customers.

But the only way they can stop doing that is by stopping breathing.

Correction, some people think it's acceptable to start a sentence with a conjunction. It has become accepted through frequent (mis)use - just as starting an answer with "so" will doubtless become, will you then regard it as acceptable once it has become normalised?
  13. I don't support this change but just so people are aware, the 343 which runs from Nunhead along the east side of Peckham Rye park then past PR station goes to London Bridge.

  16. One more go Admin - is blatant antisemitism to be permitted on this forum? An explanation of the rationale would be nice.

Yes - I don't want to be too critical of the moderators of this forum, who do a splendid job, but it's a bit disappointing that a clear hate speech antisemitic comment is permitted to stand.
  18. Thanks for that Sue, sounds like a few faults or errors on both sides but great they've got it sorted. Hopefully everyone will learn from their mistakes and go on from strength to strength (without miserable buggers with a chip on their shoulders trying to whip up unjustified boycotts!).

Ah, so you've gone from "no evidence" to admitting there's evidence but you don't think it made a difference? They are not US Twitter accounts, they are Twitter accounts identified as being run by the Russian government for propaganda purposes that were identified as part of Russia's interference in the US presidential elections and that also were used for pro-Brexit purposes during our referendum. Seriously, reading glasses, Sainsbury's'll do you a nice pair off the peg for ?10.

The article you > cite does not support open or covert support by > Russia for Brexit Really? "The report adds that although officially the Russian government asserted its neutrality on Brexit, its English-language media outlets RT and Sputnik covered the referendum campaign extensively and offered ?systematically one-sided coverage?" "They reference University of Edinburgh research showing more than 400 Russian-run Twitter accounts that had been active in the US election had also been actively posting about Brexit." "In addition, the senators noted that research conducted by a joint team of experts from the University of California at Berkeley and Swansea University reportedly identified 150,000 Twitter accounts with various Russian ties that disseminated messages about Brexit." Would you like a lend of my reading glasses?

Golly, it all seems so obvious now you say it... In fact, Russia has both openly and covertly supported Brexit: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jan/10/russian-influence-brexit-vote-detailed-us-senate-report

Of course those who use it for their daily commute would have no motive for claiming that everything's fine with it, would they? This is a well-known rat run, leading on to one of the busiest roads in the area, and you've never been held up there? I wonder why when my wife and I wanted to leave there at morning rush hour in the car we'd frequently be held up for a number of minutes? Just unlucky, I guess...

I lived on Champion Hill for ten years 2006-2016 on the ground floor of Ruskin Park House, at the end nearest the junction. From 6.30AM to 9AM the road was blocked as far back as the student halls, with traffic frequently hooting at those in front to pull out onto Denmark Hill. The pollution was filthy, we had to keep our windows closed at all times in the hottest weather. For some reason evening rush hour wasn't too bad. During the day there was a continual stream of traffic, most of it driving in excess of the speed limit, with many drivers going the wrong side of the traffic islands to avoid having to slow down. The only way it's safe to use as a cyclist is to hold a position in the middle of the road (and then get abused by car drivers for slowing them down) - if you move at all to the left someone will try to squeeze by at a pinch point and you risk being slammed into parked cars. Too many comments on here symptomatic of the "I should be allowed to drive whenever and wherever I want" mindset. People are dying in their thousands because of London's traffic every year, and many thousands more, especially children, are suffering serious health problems. It's not good enough to say "Oh the council should leave everything as it is and not interfere." In answer to Artful's (sensible) question, the road won't be completely barriered, there will just be an island on the right-hand side (as you come up from Denmark Hill) and a no-entry sign, which I assume emergency vehicles are permitted to ignore - the road will still be two-way either side of the semi-closure.
