  1. Hi I know this is an East Dulwich forum but sadly we have recently moved out of the area to Beckenham and our wonderful cleaner was unable to come with us. Beckenham doesn't have such a great forum and I haven't found a mechanism to find a new cleaner as yet....so just in case there are cleaners who live / work in Beckenham / Dulwich area I thought I'd give it a shot! We are looking for an honest, reliable fantastic cleaner who is happy to travel to Beckenham. We need 4 hours per week. Please PM me for more details. Thanks for looking.
  2. Hi I would like to recommend our cleaner who is now going to be available on a Friday morning in the east Dulwich or Dulwich area. We have used her for 5 years and she is honest, trustworthy and totally reliable. In 5 years she has only been off sick once. Unfortunately we are moving out of the area and she is unable to come with us otherwise we would take her! Her name is Agnes and her email is [email protected] Do get in contact with her directly if you are interested. She is available to start from the 27th November.
  3. After school costs are ?10 from close of school until 4.45pm; then I think it is amounts to ?20 (total) until 6pm. There is also a 5.30pm option but can't remember cost. However if you know you always need one specific day you can book at the beginning of term which works out cheaper. Same for breakfast club which I think is approx ?5. I'd give the school a call and ask them.
  4. If you are looking for a tiler / bathroom fitter, I can highly recommend Marcus Woloch. He has done a number of tiling jobs for us - kitchen, en-suite and downstairs toilet - all done to a high standard. Not only is his work good, he is also a really nice, honest guy and is the type of tradesman you would be happy to leave the keys with. His number is: 07817 050159 and email:[email protected] website: www.mwplasteringandtiling.com Feel free to PM me if you would like any further information.
  5. In principle I agree - cyclists should not go on the pavement. However, I admit I do occasionally go on the pavement and I would love the "right" solution. I cycle with my 6 year old to school sometimes and have to go down East Dulwich Grove to the village, or alternatively I go down Court lane. I need to be close enough to my son to shout out reminders, to be "aware of cars coming out of drives" "beware of people" etc etc etc ...... and sometimes there is no space alongside the curb because the cars are so close to the pavement. Sometimes you have to go near the middle of the lane if you are going straight ahead at a junction - because if you stay by the pavement you risk getting hit by cars turning left. SO - for those of you who are experienced cyclists or just knowledgeable I would love to hear the solution. Yes, some of us are mummies who do not want to commit a crime,,,,but equally it would be nice for the kids to cycle to school and for me to feel they are safe. And to add to the debate....my husband has a hand bike (he is a paraplegic) and he has experienced much abuse from car drivers about cycling on the road! So who knows what he should do?
  6. Hi We've been to Thailand with both of our children (when my daughter was 8 months and son aged 4) - had a couple of days in Bangkok and then went over to Koh Samui. I love Thailand - have done the backpacking thing and also just normal holidays. Brilliant place with children - people are kind and helpful. You can often get some great deals with Trailfinders - we've ended up with lovely hotels where you buy 5 nights, get 5 nights free. The overnight flight works well......children sleep so less entertaining.
  7. I would highly recommend a carpenter called Tom - his number is 07966 453183. He is tidy, polite - a perfectionist! His prices are competitive but won't be the absolute cheapest but the quality of his work is outstanding.
  8. Hi I can recommend a guy called Tom - his number is 07966 453183. He is absolutely brilliant - I don't think the cheapest person but competitive. His attention to detail is amazing and he will do anything you need with regards to shelving, cabinets, furniture etc. He doesn't do "boxing in pipes" though. He lives in South West London but will travel throughout the South. You are welcome to PM me to pop round if you want to view his work. He extended our kitchen units for us and matched it so it all looks as one.
  9. I think it's a shame that G&B is closing - there is one guy who really knows his wine and is brilliant. As for Starbucks - that is disappointing - the coffee is awful (only for my taste....so not to offend those who like it).
  10. Hi My son goes to a fantastic drop in session at PELO sports ground (Burbage road, SE21 - Gallery road end) on Saturday mornings from 0930-1100. It costs ?5 per child. The coaches are all brilliant and they learn skills and play games. Very muddy. It's finished now for the holidays but starts up again on 12th January. It is run by Kinetic Coaching.
  11. Hi We have lost a jelly cat beige bunny comforter - it has a bunny head and pink / white stripy body. It looks like this: bunny If you find it, please let me know.... Huge thanks
  12. I have just checked on national rail and Forest Hill station is still open. Lots of helicopters over my way (Friern Rd)
  13. I think Whippersnappers does a holiday club but not sure about ages.... There seems to be a number of nannies advertising availability over the summer or maybe there is an au-pair available...
  14. I 100% concur with all the advice everyone has stated already - my daughter was on 50th percentile and dropped to 9th....and is still there. My son is also on 9th percentile. Both my husband and I are fairly petite. However, my daughter has reflux and we see a private paediatrician at the Portland called Mr Malouf. He is very nice and I can recommend him. I would like to point out that we went privately because there was going to be a 12 week wait for a Kings paediatric appointment and my LO was in so much pain due to the reflux that I couldn't contemplate waiting that long (or cope with her persistent crying). If your child is happy and does not appear sick, then I would potentially wait for the Kings paediatric referral. Good Luck
  15. Hi I'd recommend Alison at the Natural Health Centre on Lordship Lane. SHe is great.
  16. I love my Bugaboo Cameleon and have never regretted the investment. I think it is a great city pram providing you avoid peak rush hour (but then at peak commuter time, even a maclaren can be a squeeze).
  17. This thread is great. I suddenly feel normal! ;)
  18. my son literally put his little yellow watering can down on the front drive and left it for 10 mins...and it was pinched! Bless he saw someone walking up the road with it and chased them saying "that's mine, that's mine" (he's 3 years old!)
  19. Ann - I also appreciate that you are playing devils advocate but I was constantly one of those mums going on buses and trains at commuter time as I used to commute for 90 minutes with my son to work (I couldn't get a local nursery place) - I can honestly say from experience that if I HAD a choice I would never commute with a toddler because (a) it's stressful for them, me and other commuters! I did it until 8 1/2 months pregnant with my second - and never was offered a seat either DESPITE being doubled over with braxton hicks on the train when picking up my son.....and funnily went into labour the next day! Sorry for the moan!
