  1. I'm still tracking Rip's next venture at Ascot. Next weekend I think. Keeping powder dry - although my mate from Derry/Londonderry is visiting tomorrow and he is a bit of a gambler, so he may tempt me Saturday. One of my big wins this year was ?600 profit on Kauto Star in March, I texted him and he said he had it too, but for "big money" whatever that means, maybe best I don't ask.
  2. I can't afford to shop in Green and Blue - I drink too much wine. But I'm never drunk enough to write a letter. So I don't go the the PO either. I think Reg is getting at the point that he saw a different side of ED today. I'd agree the post office may represent people who are not perhaps "internet familiar", this may include a disproprotionate amount of people who like to deal with a "face" when completing forms etc and who buy gifts in a shop before posting them, rather than buying online and having them posted direct, or those who prefer the written letter to the email. Or people who take real foreign exchange out before going on holiday rather then trusting their debit card in foreign countries. I think these practices that keep the Post Office busy, will continue to decline over the next few years.
  3. Oh dear, Quids may be hurting.
  4. Bad luck - only a minute late I see.

  6. Very good BBW. You are very quick - do you have an assistant?
  7. Good ????. But I'd expect it to be your cup of tea, with a username like yours. I enjoyed it more than last night's football. Honestly. Has not had many posts though. Noone interested in finance in the Lounge - maybe it will be the first ever thread to be "Drawing Roomed".
  8. Well, based upon what NIESR have said above it suggests to me that a recession ends when you have a single quarter of economic growth. But I have not googled if that is the right answer.
  9. Well chez, we all guess them wrong every week, although each week one person seems to get it right and guess what, this week it was Derren Brown, and heck, as if he needs the money. Unfair.
  10. Tony is busy.
  11. "Huged continuously" DM - what does that entail?
  12. The Post Office may not be a good representation Reg. I have been in ED nine years and I don't remember ever having been in there. There must be many others who rarely darken its door. I think the Post Office (as distinct from the postal system) will eventually die out in the High Street.
  13. Tony must be busy.
  14. Hey Tone - I thought you were out with a lady today - why back so soon?
  15. Apparently he wins the lottery every week, but like BBW hes is barred for being too clever.
  16. BBC currently showing "The Love of Money" Its interesting in that its format is like that of a disaster movie. The fall of Lehmans is a fantastic story. This guy at head of Lehmans, Dick Fuld, made multi millions and scared people into taking big risks - these types of characters dominate Wall Street and the City - the types you really don't mess with. Lehmans was the prime casualty and it meant hardship for a while - whether we are through most of it, who knows? Lehmans has gone, a big player had to go I guess, it was a wake up call for the financial world. It had to happen for other financial institutions to take their exposure and risk seriously. The UK government refused to allow Barclays to save Lehmans in refusing to allow the UK taxpayer to guarantee Lehmans debts. Lehmans was cut loose. This was the beginning of the correction. The end of the gravy train for many. I hope that all those who have lost employment get employment soon - I'm not taking that lightly and this thread does not have any intended direction - its just a fascinating subject, and we still do not know how the economy will pan out. Views welcome. Credits to TLS for the thread title, which makes me laugh every time I read it.
  17. Thats why its closed then.
  18. The Lounge is where its at. Hear hear. Or should I say here, its here.
  19. LOL Woof. [PS - I laughed, and my wife looked at me, looked at the screen and looked back at me like I was a sad f*ck.]

  21. Why are you not allowed in the Drawing Room BBW? Were you ever allowed in or just barred from the start on principle?

This doesn't bother me > personally of course, because I am @#$%& clever! > :-S That's very funny Keef - and spot on. Everyone in the DR posts hoping everyone else will respond saying "you're spot on -that's the right answer - you're a genius" But that never happens - people just disagree, because everyone else thinks they have the perfect viewpoint. I had one go at it and gave up.
  23. Bob - I know someone who is always funnier than me. His name is Ted. What can I do to bridge the humour gap?
