  2. That's very sad Jah, my condolences. You seem to have been very unfortunate. Look after yourself.
  3. I'm sure I could find the "Arsenal - nah" quote for you on the football forum if I looked hard enough. STS, I am now a convert.
  4. "Arsenal - nah" Quids - 10 days ago. [You can come to mine and Atila's big Gooner party in May.]
  5. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It looks like Messi can't even get Argentina to a > World Cup...... All that proves in Maradona is not a manager. I never went in for the "Maradona winning the World Cup on his own" argument - no one player can do that without a half decent team - then on the other hand Maradona did win the Scudetto with Napoli so I guess he could lift an average team like noone else could. In that respect he was special.
  6. I don't think Maradona would have won a World Cup if he came from Northern Ireland. That's quite a big ask.
  7. Keef Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I still think it's haed to compare sportsmen from > different eras. Bets was quality, but the > opposition wouldn't have had the fittness they do > today, and stuff like that. That works both ways Keef - the likes of Ronaldo do not have to deal with tackles. "Come near me and you know i'll fall over". What's great about watching Best is the way he rode tackles, tackles intended to break his legs. Something we will never see again as the game has changed so much. Maradona had the same quality. Messi is closest of the current stars. He beats players with speed and balance.
  8. I have to say I saw a clip of Messi recently and as he darted past defenders it reminded me of the Best archives. It remains to be seen what his impact will be over the next few years. George took Europe by storm, and by all accounts his performance against Benfica aged 19, in 1966 reverberated around europe, noone has really made such a dramatic impact in Europe since at such a young age.
  9. Hang in there Daizie.
  10. I have a friend of a friend who died last week at age only 44 from a heart attack. He smoked and drank a bit too much but still that's unusually young. Made me think though at age 42 that you can take nothing for granted. An early death of someone you know makes you feel unusually mortal.
  11. When did you take that photo Anna?
  12. Matt - noone would seek to compare Best with John Barnes - surely! Barnes was a good player but noone in their right mind would put him up there with George Best - would they? I did have a separate thread comparing Best and Ronaldo, and Barnes could be up there with Ronaldo, but not Best. Surely.
  13. Not a bad likeness actually.
  14. George Best said "Many young United players have been compared to me over the years, but the Ronaldo comparison is the only one that is a compliment to me." That was George Best being typically charming.
  15. I watched all of that Matt. Quite impressive.

Before my time too Matt - that does not mean that the attached tribute does not still take my breath away - his speed at going past players and riding vicious tackles, are unrivalled before or since in my opinion. Only by watching this will you see how good he was. Some of it is incredible. He was untouchable. John Barnes was a great player for a period, and please do post a youtube link that shows him at his best.
  17. Beards are for Weirds.... Someone once said that - I don't agree of course.
  18. Were you also there when he - according to Harry Redknapp - "He beat West Ham on his own with a hat trick. He was unplayable".
  19. Surely even you are bored with the diving debate Matt - its gone on forever. What about your views on Georgie Best.
  20. Ronaldo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FDYZdPfDN0 Best Two tributes to players who have claims to be Manchester United's greatest. Who was the best?
  21. Good one Declan - I enjoyed that. Nice toi hear the commentator say "the hard working Best" - reminds people of how hard George Best worked for the team. It led me on to this George Best tribute - In times of diving controversy this is a masterclass in riding tackles. Fantastic viewing which I hope some younger forumites might watch, it shows how the game used to be played and how far ahead of his time Goerge Best was. Having watched this I'd be interested in hearing wheter the MU fans would rate Ronaldo up there with Best. I for one would not.
  22. Relax mate, you are obviously a little sensitive. Best, Mick.
  23. Just came across this - Liverpool win the European Cup 1981 and that means they are champions of Europe for 3rd time in 5 years. Quite an achievement.
