  1. Special Patrol Group hasn't existed in 35 years, I'm afraid. They were replaced by the Territorial Support Group after the Brixton Riots. They still have a reputation for antagonistic conduct and unnecessary violence. The man who killed Ian Tomlinson floated from disciplinary charge to disciplinary charge before he ended up in the TSG. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Territorial_Support_Group
  2. There's been a drop of anonymous leaflets criticising the council on Burbage Rd. A lot of hyperbolic stuff about a "war on motorists" (a cliche so tired even Jeremy Clarkson recognises it's nonsense) and "discriminatory" permit fees. Interestingly, they have been affixed to cars but not delivered to houses, as if it were the cars that matter, and not the people that live here...
  3. Yeah, pretty much. Also: everyone who showed up after me is a gentrifying bastard.
  4. Crystal Palace fitness centre has weightlifting sessions. Whether it's Olympic depends on how good you are 😉
  5. I looked reasonably recently and there was. Weirdly, the photo booth company doesn't have the one piece of information you would expect on their website - where they are located!
  6. 1) I think the conversation about "the park doesn't make much money from the festival" is an irrelevance. If green space is to be rented out to a private company, I want the council to squeeze them until the pips squeak and make as much money as possible for all its critical services - social care, libraries, social services, housing, rat catchers, whatever. Obviously parks generally should get their fair share of that, but the fact that all the rent doesn't go back specifically into Peckham Rye Park doesn't bother me at all. 2) do we actually know how much rent the festival organiser pays the council, and how much the council spends on cleaning and restoring the park after? It's impossible to have a sensible conversation without knowing that. 3) the festival promoters are in it for the money. That's fine by me - but I don't want to hear any more of their cockwaffle about community participation or local trader opportunities.
  7. If the police are just asking, it is not. If they have a warrant or are exercising a statutory power (eg s19 of Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984), it is. But I expect the cop on the spot would know that better than us random people on the internet. Let's not get carried away with second hand information and start demonising shop workers. It wouldn't surprise me if a big company had a policy that CCTV requests had to be made in writing and that has - through Chinese whispers - turned jnto a story about how a manager had refused to cooperate. It's not like these are old fashioned systems where the manager can just eject a VHS tape from a box under the counter and hand it over.
  8. Before it sold out to Poundland, Foxtons had obtained permission to extend the boundaries of East Dulwich to the north, east and south by ⅛ of a mile per calendar year.
  9. FM Conway is 50% owned by Aecom, a massive publicly-traded US company, and 50% by the Conway family.
  10. "Exceptions We do not collect from the London Borough of Hillingdon" Too right. Piss off, Hillingdonians, you're so far west you're practically Cornish!
  11. This is, again, complete cobblers. If you park on double yellow lines or zigzags or stuck out in the middle of a road or any other stupid dangerous place - the council will ticket you if they see you. It's a weird conspiracy theory to say "enforcement of road laws is only about revenue raising BUT ALSO the council doesn't want revenue from some road offences BUT ALSO it's too expensive to raise all this revenue". These three things can't all be true simultaneously. It's lazy bloody parents driving to schools and parking on double yellows and zigzags that makes things slow and dangerous for everyone else's kids!
  12. The website says you can't put "paint tins" in normal recycling: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/what-goes-in-recycling And also that you shouldn't take normal recycling along to the tip: https://www.southwark.gov.uk/bins-and-recycling/recycling/recycling-centres/reuse-and-recycling-centre?chapter=3 But I can't see anything that says you can't take paint tins to the tip. In any case, you definitely can take paint there. Good luck!
  13. I think there are more hardware shops on Lordship Lane than estate agents now.
  14. I'm hoping for an indoor skate park. Or failing that another hardware shop.
  15. "Aware motorists" don't have much contact with traffic wardens. It seems like your "experience of wardening" [sic] actually means you've seen traffic wardens on the street before.
  16. What's your experience of "traffic wardening"?
  17. Why is it important to you that they work alone?
  18. How many enforcement officers should Southwark have?
  19. Cobblers. The number of cars, people and journeys has risen massively since East Dulwich was built, and even since the 70s when the idea you could just drive and park anywhere for free in London took off. That was always a dream, and it's dead. Even if your only desire in life was to provide enough free parking to meet demand, you'd have to copy Denver or Dallas and simply bulldoze half of East Dulwich to create more car parks.
  20. It's gonna be between Leyland SDM (which I like) and Dulwich DIY (which is beloved on here), and not far from Plough DIY and (tbf a couple of minutes further) Toolstation.
  21. How much do you think it should cost?
  22. Exciting times in West Dulwich: a new branch of St Christopher's charity shop has opened up at 2 Croxted Rd (the old Topps Tiles shop on the corner). Just opposite, at 84 Park Hall Rd, is Churchills Wine Bar and Kitchen. It looks very cosy, busy and clean. Seems to be a short menu (which is a good thing- too long and it just means everything is frozen), and a special Sunday roast offering.
  23. This is rubbish. Parking in unlawful places creates hazards, slows traffic, and increases congestion. Overstaying reduces the turnover of safe parking spaces so people can stop while shopping etc. It harms everyone. Just today I saw a guy park on zigzags at a zebra crossing at school kicking out time so he could go and buy a coffee without walking another 50 feet from a legal spot. Another couple of cars were parked in a spot reserved for an ambulance. Too bad there weren't any parking wardens around. It's not like there is a shortage of people parking illegally.
  24. Software isn't perfect. The working conditions for Amazon drivers are pretty bad: subcontractors of subcontractors, most of them are not even close to being employees with any job security or ability to manage a massive workload. If you've got 120 drops to make - stuff is going to get left on the doorstep. You can have it delivered to a lockers, you can use a different company, you can buy in store or you can take your chances... https://pennypost.org.uk/2021/02/confessions-amazon-delivery-driver/
