  3. I'm a bit of an addict. I love my iphone. Too much. Get all my work emails on it, spend hours on it when I should be talking to my partner or friends, or reading something! So Have decided to give it up. Maybe not permanently but we will see (so yes I have an iPhone 5 for sale!). I am going to use a non smartphone nokia. I still have a work ipad and blackberry for work stuff. But I want to go out for a beer and talk to people instead of playing Angry Birds or some other such nonsense! Has anyone else gone from Smartphone back to basics?
  4. Hello hello! My and the other half hate doing laundry, we are generally knackered at the weekend and we are looking for someone to pick up, launder (wash, dry and iron) our clothes every week. Can anyone recommend a service? Ta.

  7. I'm going out and about today with a friend, not sure I am ready for Brighton just yet! Yeah there is a support truck carries your bag, with a mechanic on board. 90 miles on first day, then about 65 miles a day.
  8. Wow, what an adventure! I'm completely jealous.! Did you camp or stay with friends around the country? How long did it take? You should be really proud of yourself. :)
  9. I've signed myself up for a London to Paris bike ride next April with a mate. nothing like jumping in at the deep end!
  10. Morning! I've been cycling about 16 miles a day round trip to commute to work. To begin with, i felt like I had been kicked up the rear by a donkey, but more and more finding I am actually enjoy it, find it strangely empowering knowing I am going to work under my own steam and not having to rely on trains! Also I've lost a touch over a stone which is a bonus! THinking I may begin cycling for fun but not sure where to start really. There is a sponsored trip next spring, London to Paris over 5 days which I really like the look of, but would like to find something locally first. Is there anything about? I will do a keyword search also as no doubt there are lots of other cycling threads! Ta.. PW
  11. In 2005 I went to Kings with pain in my stomach, and was sent home having been told I had wind and that if the pain was still there in 24 hours to call my GP. I remember little of what happened next but the sequence of events seems to be: Was taken home by partner, within a few hours I was unconscious Taken back to Kings via ambulance and operated on within 40 minutes (Laparotomy), a burst duodenum ulcer is found The delay in my initial treatment meant I had developped septicaemia and my pancreas was damaged 5 hours in theatre fixing my gut up and removing half my pancreas 2 weeks in intensive care Followed by 2 weeks on a normal ward, where I contracted MRSA. I can remember this bit, particularly the blood splatter up the Walls in my isolation room and the filth hanging down from the ventilation vent. I also remember my catheter bag being so full, despite my shouting and begging for it to be emptied but being ignored by the nurses who mostly I could not understand what they were saying. I was so full it fell off the clip onto the floor and half came out, with the baloon inflated. It wasn't until my partner came in and found me in agony and covered in my own urine that they came to sort it out. If I have to drive past that place, I feel physically sick. Their misdiagnosis very nearly killed me. Again every time I look down at the 9 inch scar on my stomach I remember the appalling care I had at Kings and how lucky I am to be alive. No thanks to KCH.
  12. Hi all, First few days were a struggle, more that I felt like I had been kicked in the ass a few dozen times, but it wasn't as bad as I thought, and found myself enjoying it in parts! Plus I've lost half a stone, bonus..! Thanks for all your comments and advice.. :) PW
  13. All very good advice, bought a used bike, a Marin, very light, only a few Months old. If it all goes well I will get a good new bike once I am into a routine. Off to buy a helmet today and some other kit.
  14. Hi, Thanks for all the very good advice. I am having a dummy run this saturday from home to the office to see how I get on, and how lost I get. Will be getting helmet and hi-viz this week. Wish me luck!
  15. I have just started a new job in East Croydon, it is in fact very easy to get to on the train, but have been toying with the idea of cycling for the fitness benefits, so thought the 6 mile each way daily commute on a bike would be a good place to start, and a good way to loose my ever increasing stella belly. I've put ?200 aside to get a road bike (not going to get a very expensive one until I am sure I will stick with it, then I will invest). I just want to ask what else do I need to consider? helmet of course, but what do you lovely cycling people do about taking your work clothes with you? Surely they get creased up? I am a member of a gym that is in the same street as my office so can go in there for a shower easily enough. Any advice for a newbie cycle commuter? Do's and don'ts etc? Also, anyone selling a light road bike?? Thank you all.. :)
  16. We have had 2 scooters stolen in the last year. One of which was 4 Months old from brand new. We have decided to replace them with old rust wrecks, no point having anything nice. Both were alarmed, both were chained.
  17. Chuggers really piddle me off. I pretend I'm on the phone in the hope they will leave me alone!
  18. I've just got home after walking the dog on Peckham Rye, litter everywhere, I went home, picked up a bin bag, back to the park and picked some up, but there was junk everywhere, people obviously enjoying the sun, and leaving their sh*t behind. Grrr! Really spoils it for anyone who wants to use the park today. *moan*
