  1. Hi All, An update, and again a thanks to people for advice and messages. I was becoming a bit of a blubbering heap on very strong pain relief, which was changed on Friday to patches that I wear that last a week, and release morphine slowly at a controlled rate, difficult to see much difference yet but I don't feel 'high' at the moment, but do have some pain. I had an MRI scan, and then a second. Because the waiting list for treatment is quite long I am being treated in a private clinic courtesy of the NHS, which is speeding things along. THis only happened after I started to get pins & needles in my lower leg and foot. The MRI scan shows the nerve sheath not where it should be around my hip joint. I am not entirely sure how that happens. It looks like there will be some surgical intervention, I have an appointment in Feb with the Surgeon *groan*. It has been so debilitating, so have the pain killers, the last few weeks are a bit of a blurr of presecription drugs and pain. Really hoping things will move along now. My sympathies go out to anyone who has ever had sciatica or any kind of back pain. It's hard to put into words what it is like.. P..
  2. Hi All, Quick update. After lots of advice re seeing an Osteopath I spoke to a chap (after speaking to reception I was then called back by an Osteopath Tutor!) at the British School for Osteopathy on Borough High Street who advised that I should not see an Osteopath while my GP is investigating the cause and treating the symptoms, he also said that it would be against an Osteopaths code of practice to treat me, with acute sciatic pain being treated by a GP unless directed to do so by the GP. When I mentioned my GP saying about an Osteopath having limited anatomy and physiology knowledge he said "well that is true of course". So I am sticking with my GP, even though the pain killers are making me loopy... I am seeing Dr on Weds to discuss the results of the MRI, and then an appt with Physio on Friday, when I spoke to the Dr on Friday I think I got the message across that it was bloody painful, and since then things seem to have happened. Thanks again for messages and private messages. P..
  3. I thought it was awful, as much as I LOVE Izzard, I thought he was particularly rubbish..!
  4. Hi all thanks for messages and private messages! Saw Dr this morning again, 2nd time in 2 days as I was up all night in pain. Again the doctor said I should not see an osteopath or massage therapist, commenting that they do not have enough knowledge of anatomy and physiology and could make it much worse. I've been put on some hardcore pain killers called tramadol, that have rendered me unconscious for most of today, very fuzzy head now. Not sure I will take those again! Also been put on anti inflammatory tablets and have to go for an MRI scan tomorrow so hoping that will show where the problem is, apparently where the pain is indicates some kind of pressure on the nerve where the nerve goes through the hip. All a bit of a blur today but still walking around like a 75 year old, its bloody sore. :( thanks again for advice and messages you lovely ED people. P.. Zzzzzzz.....
  5. I've been back to GP, and it was a different Doctor in fact. Both were very clear that going to an osteopath could make it worse. It is strange because there is no pain in my back, just my backside and right down my leg. It was just now and then, and it would twinge after sitting for a while, but for a week or so it has been constant except when I am up and walking around, and I have taken to popping pills to sort it out. I am a bit of a wuss when it comes to prescription meds, I have pretty much been off my face for a few days! I think I have to wait about a month to get a physio appointment. Not sure I can wait that long, is there a private practice in ED?
  6. Putting clothes back on the rail when clothes shopping because it is a bit too young for you. *sob*
  7. Suffering a bit, well more than a bit. About 4 Months ago went to GP with pain in my right bum cheek, that radiates down my right leg. After some poking and stretching, diagnosed a pinched sciatic nerve. He said it would go in about 3 weeks. 4 months later ow ow ow ow ow! I've been referred to a physio and told by GP not to see a massage therapist/osteopath privately as it could make it a lot worse. I have been trying to ignore it, but you know, being a man, I think I might actually die. Joking aside, it bloody hurts, a lot! pain right down my leg, much worse when I am sitting down, walking relieves it quite a lot. Any fellow sufferers got any advice? I have been trying to avoid taking strong pain killers as I ride a motorbike, but last couple of days I have had to as the pain is a right pain in the arse, quite literally. P.. :(
  8. I am looking for a responsible, friendly dog lover to look after my pooch for 2 weeks in August. Can anyone recommend a local service? Or an individual that might be able to help? Thanks - Philip
  9. Would certainly be interested in social thingy for the gayers of ED. Just post where and when :) :))
  10. Ha! yeah thats him, funny how you forgive and forget hey? Anyways, he has to wear a huge purple sock for a month, he will be mightily pished off, so we're even.
  11. Hello there, Thought I would share an experience with you lovely ED people. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed my dog limping after his walk, and first thing in the morning, he is an 8 year old boxer, and I thought it was just old man hip or something, but I took him to the vet anyway. They said his knee is injured and needs to see a specialist, so we went to see him (Kydd & Kydd in Wimbledon, can't praise them enough) it turns out my pooch has a badly injured knee, a ruptured ligament, and needs an operation. Well me and my dog are quite close! I mean, he has been a step behind me every day since he was 10 weeks old. I was gutted that he was going to have to go through this. I was a mess, the dog didn't seem that bothered when I told him about it! So he came home yesterday after the operation, there were some complications but it all worked out ok, he has a new Bionic knee (time will tell if he can jump over houses and run at 60 miles an hour!), and is generally feeling very sorry for himself, a bit sore, although I think he is enjoying the bacon, grilled chicken, pigs ears and sympathy. For him it must have been so confusing, for us, well I've hardly slept and have been more anxious than I would probably admit in public! The point I want to make is, that in total, including post op vet visits and physio, this will have cost close to ?5000. Since he was a pup I have paid my ?16 a month for pet insurance, and now, it is all dealt with, my pet insurance have agreed to pay the vet direct, it is all done, he is fixed (ish) and I don't have to worry about the money. What would I have done if he wasn't insured? It is such a relief to know he is getting good treatment, and I don't have to worry about the financial side of it, I just have to think about getting him better. for those of you thinking "Christ it's just a dog!" You're absolutely right, but he's my dog.. The moral of the story. Vet bills bad. Pet insurance good..!
  12. I keep getting my cover nicked, at least one a month. Not sure what is happening to them.
  13. The girl must be petrified. Yes she is selling her story but I believe that is to provide for her kids as there is a real possibility they might find themselves without their Mother. Who cares about celebrity culture, it is a young very sick girl and she deserves our prayers and thoughts, as do anyone in the same situation, whatever it is they do for a living.
  14. A sad loss, many happy memories of running home after school to watch Take Hart, gave my parents some peace which I think they would have thanked Tony for. Rest in Peace.
  15. I think, if it is taxed, and hasn't been stolen then it is legally parked and has every right to park there?
  16. I had some guy taking photo's of me and my boxer this morning (Sunday) on the Rye. When I started to walk over towards him (black guy, 5ft8 maybe, hoodie, jeans, camouflaged jacket) he walked off.
  17. A few years ago when I was living on Barry Road there was a horrible crash outside, someone in a very lovely merc convertible bounced off about 8 parked cars and ended up on its roof. half a dozen cars destroyed. I always hated parking on Barry Road, some people really put their foot down going up and down there. (td)
