  1. they were still there on Weds!
  2. Tea tree oil or lavender to drop into the bath after is nice.. and lavender also good if you hate the smell of hospital (for pilows)
  3. I think I'd call that helpline and pur your concerns in writing to the LEA asking for an assessment of his needs
  4. You could get a private scan with pics, you know http://www.apeekabooimaging.co.uk/
  5. But can they scan the ones they do have, radnrach? Was it just a receptionist you spoke to? I have a very poor view of the reception staff there, tbh.
  6. http://www.nes.scot.nhs.uk/pharmacy/breastfeeding/topic4/fluconazole.html Thrush and Oral Fluconazole - that's what I'd go for for quick resolution.
  7. Me. I'm in Waltham Forest. I think almost very LEA is struggling with huge overspends on SEn, hence the pressure to devolve to schools and let schools sort it out...

  9. Article about how few SEN pupils are now statemented: http://www.publicservice.co.uk/news_story.asp?id=8479
  10. I am business manager of an allthrough primary/secondary and in our LA no new statements are issued now except if the pupil is expected to need a place at a special school, or similar support in mainstream. The vast majority of pupils are supported by the school using a sum of money allocated annualy for this purpose (ie most of the LA's SEN budget has been devolved to schools) THis is happening in many LAs. This is what I meant by it being 'the fashion'Actually I think it is a policy. But parents can still insist on a statement, and I would always encourage them to do so, as it brings with it otehr protections - priority under school admissions codes, protection in case of exclusion etc where special consideration is needed as to whether the school has been meeting special needs adequately.

  12. There is a fashion now not to statement pupils but for the school to meet needs rom its existing resources. If my child had SEN I would fight for the statement though as it is a passport to a choice of secondary school, protection from perverse exclusions etc etc I think you can request a statement
  13. Knomester Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Goodness knows when I'm going to pack these > bags... I'm very good a writing lists though! Write the list, put in the bag then gradually fill the bag and cross stuff off the list...
  14. Also a good idea to have a plan for if you end up staying in longer than expected - at the minimum, a list stuck to the fridge of what you'd need and where it is kept (more clotehs for you, more baby clothes etc etc)
  15. Good list. I would have one bag for labour and one for afterwards. It's a good idea to make sure nappies/clothes for the baby are in an obvious place so that whoever gets the clothes out doesn't have to empty the whole bag. I recommend huggies pure wipes and LOTS of spare baby clothes to deal with the whole leaky meconium thing! It makes sense to me, if breastfeeidng is important to you, to speak beforehand to local breastfeeding supporters and have their phone no to hand. A friend of mien actually called the NCT helpline from her hospital bed after her caesarian when she got poor support from the hospital (not Kings) and my experience of coming home on a Saturday morning after my twins birth was that the community midwife didn't come to see me until 5pm on the Monday (I believe they are supposed to come on the next working day) Maybe not for the hospital bag, but a breastpump, storage bottles and a syringe saved the day for us when one of our twins wouldn't latch for well over a week.
  16. You might have the best response if you post in the family room.
  17. From Sept 2010 the entitlement goes up to 15h per week http://www.southwark.gov.uk/info/200016/childcare/710/free_early_education_entitlement/1
  18. You may need tablets for the thrush, not sure cream is very effective
  19. THis is quite useful: radius from a postcode http://www.freemaptools.com/radius-from-uk-postcode.htm
  20. St Johns have some places for church goers and some for the braoder community I believe
  21. Just to warn people that it is possible to move DOWN a waiting list as well as up, if children join the list who fulfil the criteria bette than you do (families who were in nursry but missed the application deadline, siblings who didn't state they were siblings, families who have just moved, that sort of thing)
  22. None of our children have ever used any arm bands etc except when on holiday we dressed no 1 in one of those jackets in case he jumped into the deep bit of the pool (and sometimes if I take both twins I put little jackets on them for similar reason) I think it makes them nervous then to try without Arm bands make it virtually impossible for them to get into a natural swimming posture... I am a scuba/snorkel instructor and for me I really want my children to be confident to put their faces underwater and use of aids means they can't do that... I think close 1:1 supervision to hold them up and make them feel secure, also teaching them to grasp the side and hold on, is the way to go
  23. I'm glad you have made a big leap forward in fidning out what's wrong and hope things will start to turn around now and you will be able to properly enjoy your new baby x
