  1. I think you have to call and ask.. they do tours I think. But it would do no harm to speak to the supervisor of midwives specifically about use of the pool/s, availability and protocols. I think I'm right you can't use the pool with pethidine or an epidural. But many women will use the pool at some point, even if they give birth on land.
  2. I put in a Freedom of Information request on 7th August, but haven't even had an acknowledgement yet. I'll follow it up. I suggest we get along to this lib dem councullor meet up at the one o'c club (is it Tuesday) and also organise a public meeting, inviting local councillors from P Rye, ED and College wards, plus the head of admissions. Suggest we book a room, say at darrell rd community centre, invite the speakers and make some leaflets/little posters to distribute. We need a snappy name with a good acronym..
  3. Lewis Robinson also sent me a reply " I have investigated this and can now come back to you with an update on what seems a never ending saga. I have been reassured that the Peckham Rye Adventure Playground will have a number of additional structures designed and installed, including an aerial runway, tyre swing, walkways and mini assault course. The explanation I have been given for only the rope swings having been installed so far is that some work started before the summer holidays, but during the summer play scheme any major work is put on hold until the new term begins, and that the next phase of the work will take place in October. I don?t find it at all satisfactory that works could not have been planned to complete before the summer, and will reflect that back to officers (including starting earlier than October!) Maybe by Xmas it will actually be finished! "
  4. That's right. There is one room at least with a big jacuzzi style thing. Other rooms can have inflatable sort of pools filled. You can also take your own, if you discuss beforehand and ensure compatability of hoses. There seem to be lots of ifs and buts re birth pool use, mostly if you are high risk in any way, I couldn't have any of my children actually in the water due to being on blood thinners (bleeding risk) and for twins they don't wnat you in there at all (want you plugged in to the continuous monitoring) but I just went ahead anyway, it was in my plan, and the midwives on duty said go ahead, even though the consultant in charge was fussing rather. As you have to be monitored via a handheld sonicaid rather than the bely thing, and I suspect you're limited in the othe rpain relief you can have in the pool, it's all part and parcel of going down one route to birth, a low tech low intervention approach... (worth looking at hypnobirthing too) and trying to avoid induction, etc. You could contact the supervisor of midwives directly, book your tour and talk it all through. It's certainly relaxing, good pain relief, gives you distance and privacy... even if you don't actually give birth into the water but get out to push, as I did. With child no 1 I had feared I wouldn't want to do that (though it was all so fast, we never got out pool up!) With the twins, I said "I need to push" and got out of the pool myself.. not sure just because I knew it was wise for us and I wanted to get settled elsewhere before I couldn't move about any more, or whether I just wanted the extra support I found when I was out of the pool (leant over a bean bag on the bedhead)
  5. i have 16m old twins i must say i find it quite hard to get out as there are two... ideas - music at the library ... one o'club ... soft play at peckham ... leapers at rye oak primary
  6. Mich: could she have oat milk? I have always found that is the most palatable non-dairy milk.. rice milk is quite nice too. I hate soya milk. Oat milk is no good if gluten-intolerant but should be Ok otherwise? It's carb based rather than protein, but as a bedtime comfort it might do the trick? x
  7. Am I a creep.. I always think the best stage is now...
  8. I struggle with mine as they like to nap in the morning.. and if I take them out and keep them awake, they conk out in the car or the buggy on the way home, before they've had their lunch. It is a pain being out somewhere with a grouchy baby who only wnats to sleep, as well. But you just have to do your best!! I'd suggest you let the baby nap on the way to a class or club, if they wnat to, and be ready with a snack for after. Re intoducing solids, start with breakfast, if that is easier for you. No hurry to get onto 3 meals per day.

  12. Dolphin swim school in Mitcham. fantastic, worth every penny, and useful play area/high chairs etc
  13. Mellors Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Blossoms Montessori on Dunstans do full days 10 - > 4 or some such, so you could use your free time > for 2 full days instead of 5 mornings? The grant has to be spread across a min of 3 days I think

  15. Buds, Puddleduck Also try Magic Moments creche 2h per day, L lane estate .. but can't use the free grant for that, is ?10 per day
  16. Perhaps we need a code! Wear a daffodil or something! I'm going to the little bubbles thing in Forest Hill tomorrow
  17. Today I'm afraid I have to work. As the one o'c club is open this morning, I'd suggest if people want to meet, they go there, it's open to under 8s in the holidays. Sawp mobile nos on here? Have fun. Poor me has to go in to work :-(
  18. Is it a cows milk protein allergy? I believe children often grow out of that, I was allergic to it, but grew out of it.
  19. Smiler Wrote:> It might be worth someone doing a freedom of > information request to Southwark to get similar > information. I have, actually!
  20. Adams used to be good, I normally buy M&S. but have found Asda almost as good. The M&S stain resist ones are very good, they do wash well.
  21. Pickle and Twinmum obviously need to do a swap!
  22. I can recommend Katherine, in Clapham http://dentalclinique.co.uk/ NHS, and she actually posts on this forum. Easy (paid) parking.
  23. She might just be at the stage where she is naturally dropping her nap.. how about: all go for a drive Try to get someone to take her for a walk/drive You and her get into your bed/watch tv Put her in the bath for 30 mins while you sit neatby and recharge your batteries Get a special toy, something lie elc's little fold up kitchen, for her to play with just at baby nap time
  24. Yes, it all got harder when they started to roll/crawl/ walk! But my big one is at school. I guess she doesn't want to miss her time alone with you... and it's hard to get out of the house and wear her out I'm sure. I do go to twins club, though my work days are changing in the Autumn and I won't be able to any more.
  25. I don't know I'm afraid (congrats on the twins, btw, I have a 6 yo and 16m twins.. do you go to the twins club?) But I did find these useful ideas: http://www.askmoxie.org/2006/02/qa_2yearold_pro.html
