Schools offer a free place in the nursery for 12.5h pw (going up to 15h from 2010) from 3+, if you can get in. Apply a year in advance. Most local schools have nurseries except st Johns. Traditionally it's been 2 1/2h per day, either ams or pms though this may change when it goes up to 15h, it could be 3 x 5h, for eg. Private nurseries can access funding if they provide a place to a 3 year old (from the start of the term after they're three) so you could access your 15h p/w via a nursery like Buds, puddleduck etc. I think the nurseries can charge you for additional hours over the 15... you can't have more than 5h free per day, or to be more precise, it has to be spread over a minimum of 3 days. (So can't use it for 2 x 7.5h days. for eg) It's term time only, the grant, in the future it might be expanding slightly how many weeks it covers (traditionally, no more than 38w p/a) Best to apply asap for those places. Re nurseries, I have never used one that caters to younger children, but I think you get some that do just term time only, short days, like Buds, what we thought of when we were young as "playgroup" and then you get some that do more childcare based care, long days, up to 8-6, all year round, but they care for babies up to school age.

WE have always had lots of adults at P Pulse.. the room is OK.. not a pug obviously though. Darrell Rd community ctre is quite a good price, could hire that and do some food/games?

I think with girls you can have 3-4 round to your house for a party tea.. with boys, parties go better if they can run around...
-
The problem is, once they start nursery, and then school, they get invited to parties and so you owe invites back, add in a few family friends, cousins, and the numbers balloon...

Our son never ever used a potty, we had a pull down seat on the loo. He did it at 2 3/4, did his first pees and poos on the loo, we immediately junked the nappy, and he didn't have too many accidents, even. I think waiting till he was 3 was what made it so easy, once he was ready. We did try at 2 1/2 but he kept pooing on the floor

My councillor, Lewis Robinson, has been taking it up for me and is going to go back to the Council now and see what's going on. They never did admit why it had take years to get the kit back into action!!

Yes. WE have been waiting for 3 years for the adventure playground at P Rye to be rebuilt, and now it seems to consist of just 3 ropes hanging down :-(

Peckham pulse softplay, 4.50 odd per child plus you supply food, could do the whole thing for less than ?100. They do the party bags.

I have some success cooking some new stuff and then having fish fingers on the side.. as long as everybody else eats the new food, I don't have to feel bad if son no 1 won't entertain it. Mr F bribes him with sweets to eat new food (it works, I am loth to agree, and after a few tries, he seems to forget the new food is "new") He is quite good at tasting new bits if we're out - chinese food or meze type meals are good with lots of new things to nibble at

Yes, I'm right. That criteria comes before pure distance to the school (i) children in public care (looked after children) (ii) children who will have brothers or sisters attending the school at their time of entry (iii) where professional evidence indicates that there are particular psychological, medical or social needs which the local authority and headteacher agree can best be addressed at the school (iv) children for whom it is their nearest Southwark community school measured by the shortest safe walking distance (v) children living nearest the school measured by the shortest safe walking distance So children living in Macroban's "black hole" would actually be prioritised, for their CLOSEST school, above children who may live closer but who also have another closer school. It really is best to put down your closest school, I'm sure most people do. The problem comes when almost all places go to siblings...
-
Macroban, I don't think that's right. I think the admissions policy has in it "Children for whom x school is their closest school"

Egypt. 5 1/2 h flight, Naama Bay is full of all inclusive deals. It gets dark quite early in oct, but the temps are great. Can recommend booking hotel directly via www.holidaynights.co.uk, and flights separately, just get a cab to the hotel (short journey - 20 mins)

My (Tory) councillors were quite responsive about this when I was trying to find out when it would reopen... so i've contacted them about this disappointing policy not to actually have much in the way of outdoor equipment.

The staff said.

It was open earlier

That';s just it, they haven't built anything dangerous. In my day, an adventure playground had things you could climb on, things you could slide down, etc http://www.londonplay.org.uk/file/1072.pdf http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/newsid_5080000/newsid_5082600/5082628.stm http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/2008/aug/03/schools.children

http://www.southwark.gov.uk/Uploads/FILE_8044.pdf Did they ever create the additional school in Nunhead/ED that they predicted would be necessary?

I don't know, I only heard it on here! I'd guess they are offering the extra places that have been made available, to children on the waiting list, or moving into the area with no school place. I'd be very surprised if it's just a one year thing, though!!
