  1. I spoke to Mr Block today and got a preview of the letter home. It is indeed the case that plain polos will not be allowed. And I do very much feel that it's not right for this to be announced after parents have already bought uniform for the year. Plain shirts will be ok, polo shirts not. At ?6,50 I won't be buying logo'd polo shirts I am afraid - and there is no way anything like that gets handed down on Our family -my children are mostly boys, very active and continually covered in mud and paint, it feels like.
  2. My oldest attended their nursery when it was by goose green. It's still the same staff. They were lovely. The new venue lOoks great.
  3. Yep, I try to get sweatshirts second hand. Child no 1 less them continually. No joke at ?7.50 for new ones!
  4. Sweatshirts isn't such a big deal, we have those (at ?7.50 each!) though good practice in schools includes pupils being allowed to also wear plain jumpers or cardigans. But if plain white polos are no longer allowed. It would mean buying lOgo'ed ones from the school at ?6.50 each'
  5. Leonie Penna!
  6. School admissions code: 'Governing bodies should ensure that the uniform chosen is widely available in high street shops and other retail outlets, and internet suppliers rather than from an expensive sole supplier. They can use their own purchasing power to buy in bulk and pass on savings to parents. Governing bodies should not seek to operate as sole suppliers in order to raise additional funds through the sale of new school uniforms.'
  7. My child is in year 5 so he is quite good at accurate reporting. I will investigate. He also reported that crisps will no longer be allowed in packed lunches, which doesn't bother me too much as I don't think children should have crisps in school peaked lunches, but I am not sure I agree that a school should be dictating (and I am sure many parents will be very upset!)
  8. Km, a reasonable person might very well think that...
  9. I am seething, assuming it's true. My son said that it will be obligatory to purchase logo'ed polo shirts, no plain jumpers or polos will be allowed. I would struggle to afford all that uniform for 3 children! There is a code of practice on uniform produced by the National Governors Association and it specifically includes the need to consult fully with parents on uniform changes, to phase in properly, to have a reasonable balance between specified and generic items, not to restrict purchase to one supplier, and to consider carefully before a school sets up a system where uniform sales generate profit for the school. Such a change by Heber would fall foul of every single one of those points.
  10. Have other parents been told by their children that today assembly was told of major changes to uniform from December?

  12. According to this http://www.harrisdulwichboys.org.uk/userfiles/files/LPC%20%205%20April%202011.pdf It's parentpay but if you haven't got the details to activate an account to pay online https://www.parentpay.com/Parents/FAQs-for-parent-payment-system/My-childs-school-has-started-using-parentpay-how-do-I-access-my-login-details_7.htm Your sons should be able to load cash onto their cards via a machine at the school. I would hope the y7 tutors will ensure that no new pupils fail to get their lunch!
  13. There are some good free activities at the children's centres, rosendale nd Bessemer grange, also bookstart. Many of these groups include singing at the end, and have regular attendees. The weds morning all saints playgroup in Peckham is similar
  14. Not got experience of carpal tunnel but I went to 38w+ with twins and suffered terrible night time discomfort by the end - mostly my back and neck, so you have my sympathy. Are you Off work? Can you nap in the day time? In my experience, towards the end I was totally exhausted and needed to rest a lot. Can the gp refer you for Physio? There was an acute clinic at kings with immediate appts Are you taking paracetamol? It's allOwed What helped Me most was a personalised mp3 hypno track from Christine Neillands, listening would help me doze off for an hour, only way I could get to sleep I hope you can get some relief A twin pregnancy is pretty hard going Hang in there x

  17. Given that there are signs up in the Gp suggesting the pharmacist as the appropriate person to see for certain minor ailments and injuries, it's pretty disappointing to hear of your experience. I hope you and your child are both ok now.

  21. I think I was lucky that Mr F left me to choose the first names in exchange for contributing his surname and choosing middle names. No 1 child ended up with a Gaelic first name, which then became a theme!
  22. There was a Linus in Heber nursery in about 2006! And our neighbour has a Keir. But both unusual.
  23. NL: I think as well as a love of books, starting to recognise the sounds in words (playing I spy something beginning with b) and the parent using the sounds rather than just the letter names, is a useful precursor. I didn't regard it as my 'job' to teach no 1 to read, he was always so active our time together was always more park/swimming/collecting sticks rather than Anything else, but all the talking, songs, reading together obviously laid the foundation because once he started reception and learnt phonics, he was reading within 6 weeks. Twin 2, who learnt phonics already (nursery) starts reception next week, and I realised yesterday, reading a cbeebies mag with those little people with sounds written on their tummies, that she can Already sound out/read easy words!!
  24. A lot of people seem to have problems with hungry baby milk, it's an old fashioned formula, casein dominant (firms curds in their stomachs) where most modern formulas are whey dominant. Nutramigen lipid has hydrolysed proteins as well as being lactose free. As a cows milk PROTEIN allergy is much more likely than a lactose intolerance, it would make sense to drop the hungry baby milk as a first step. As the gp isn't really am Infant feeding expert, can you get referred to a paediatric dietitian?
