This prompts me to repost something posted today on Facebook by a blogger i follow 'When you advocate for breastfeeding, you are up against those advocating for formula--namely, the multi-billion dollar industry with a truly sketchy record when it comes to honesty and integrity (to say the least). With their millions of marketing dollars aimed directly at a society that is very receptive to marketing, especially when done under the guise of "science" it is difficult enough, but I'm pretty sure its this same machinery that is pitting women against women, breastfeeders against formulafeeders. I have said it many, many times. As a breastfeeding advocate, I am not at war with moms who feed their babies formula, I'm at war with people who are against breastfeeding. I have heard countless situations where, yeah, even to me, it makes sense that a mom has turned to formula in that specific circumstance. In looking at the overall picture, the circumstance was created by a society that emphasizes: independence from our children, priority on materialistic gain, striving for unattainable wealth, and the individual as a commodifiable work unit. These are obstacles no one person can possibly overcome. It takes a major cultural shift to overcome the barriers to breastfeeding. The EASY ones are misinformation and bad advice. But those are simply symptoms of a larger cultural problem which has made breastfeeding, the most simple and natural way to feed a baby, an real uphill battle.'

I also had internal version while in labour, for twin 2 who had flipped feet over head On just gas and air, that was pretty grim But external really wasn't so terrible
-
I had one, my baby was transverse rather than breech though I saw an acupuncturist first and downloaded a baby turning mP3 beforehand and listened to it You get put into a room in labour ward Scannedgiven an injection that makes you shaky The manipulation was gentle and short Scanned again Consultant says he thought maybe might flip back but he didnt Returned for scan to confirm Position 48h later

Demand feeding versus fed to schedule:
Fuschia replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I don't see why demand feeding is linked to being up all night? I find a quick feed then straight back to sleep s the best recipe for me, and have rarely felt sleep deprived except with sick kids .. And that included demand feeding twins, or a new baby with 2 yo twins ... After first couple of months, demand feeding is usually spaced out anyway -
I don't really worry about charts (never get my babies weighed after 6w check!) But it's just because the asthma clinic weighed her and being a statistical sort of girl, it set my mind wandering where the extra inches have come from, you know! I guess she has actually slimmed down, lOst the cute toddler chub
-
But how can you get taller but not put on weight? I suppose if she wasn't growing, she would actually have lost weight?
-
Had my almost 4 yo weighed the other day In a year she has grown by 10cm and 1 kg 75% centile for height, 25th for weight, prev 50th and 25th She isn't ridiculously skinny or anything and she eats very well ... But I can't quite get my head around how she could have shot up by 10cm but weight hardly increased ... Do children usually do that? Never weighed ds1 so can't compare

Advice on posterior tounge tie Please
Fuschia replied to midivydale's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We had ours done privately at kings but it was about ?450 Were desperate as it was just before Christmas He also had a small chin and a spoon shaped palate It took a further 4 weeks to get him matching properly - posterior tongue tie is harder to treat and although they emphasised he had to bf every 3h after the op, T that point he wasn't bf at all! I hope things aren't at such a low point for you After having the snip, you may need to sort out plenty of hands on support in the days following Good luck! X -
You can

Latest baby dropped it at about 1y! But it might have been different if he wasn't being dragged out to school run at 11.30 and 3.30 He has one nap only Could be 10-11 Could be 1-2.30 60-90 Mins Ime it only lengthens later The twins dropped by 18m, though for ages they slept 12-2 or from 1130 if they got the choice For ages they had lunch at 2 after waking

Lots of interesting stuff about the brain - http://www.dana.org/news/cerebrum/detail.aspx?id=1228 and its need for energy, negative effects of stress, etc -
Demand feeding versus fed to schedule:
Fuschia replied to sillywoman's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I read something a long time ago about the infant brain and its need for nutrition ... I always assumed that feeding little and often, ESP at first, just mimicked the conditions that prevail in the womb, especially vital in the 4th trimester. There comes a point when there is a major shift in brain metabolism ... I always assumed that prior to that point, the brain has evolved to rely on a constant flow of food I am reading a book ATM written by a Neurobiologist, which will probably have something interesting to say I have always demand fed all mine (perhaps they were just greedy!) and our life has increasingly more structure as the no of children grew. Once you have children at school and nursery, everything has to run by the clock ... Except the baby. If the baby sleeps at a convenient time, brilliant. If the baby insists on plonking himself on your lap the whole morning to alternate 'head shoulders knees and toes' with an orgy of snacky feeds, I go with it if I can. That's just what I find easiest. -

Not so sure that demand feeding really is hard work... Surel it depends on your personality? I was reading this earlier, actually... http://www.analyticalarmadillo.co.uk/2010/11/breastfeeding-moms-dont-get-less-sleep.html and it's sort of relevant.
