  1. http://www.dunraven.org.uk/news/?pid=6&nid=2&storyid=167 Is dunraven fair banding and distance or fair banding and lottery?
  2. Fj: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/educationnews/8348725/The-councils-using-fair-banding-and-lottery-systems.html
  3. I think I am right it's a banded lottery I had a good look st how its admissions criteria were operating, a few years ago, now
  4. The problem with secondary school admissions is the lack of coordinated planning, the large no of faith schools and single sex schools Charter admits by distance (very small catchment) and kingsdale operates a lottery within bands - ensuring a more comprehensive intake than they had as a struggling school, a decade ago Charter assures the quality of its intake by virtue of house prices in the locality Kingsdale lifted its average attainment because the banded lottery meant pupils in some of the bands could be admitted with further distances than straightforward distance criteria Of course nowadays, if it admitted on distance it would be skewed towards ed children. When it was a failing school it was taking from Brixton or Peckham
  5. The normal admission criteria apply, including sibling preference However, class sizes cannot be exceeded by law in early years/ks1 If you live very near the school, your chances are good If you are a bit further away, it's likely to be problematic
  6. I wasn't induced for no 1 (41+4, fast birth) but I was for my twins and my latest baby For the twins my 'bishops score' was 10 and it was enough to break my waters, labour started and twin 1 was born within 3h For latest baby, score never got above 6 and it was a much more drawn out affair including more forms of intervention So I think it depends very much how ready your body is ... You can find out your 'score' if you ask Good luck! X

Brilliant I read her book a long time ago, found it really miserable I was expecting it to be more like 'what mothers do' by Naomi Stadlen , Which is great

  16. Some children find it very hard to transition from one activity to another, you will see them not wanting to leave home, and then refusing to leave the park at the end of the afternoon, that sort of thing. Do you always do the same things when you collect him? Perhaps make up some stories or little songs you can weave into his life that will help him switch tracks, as it were When my twins at one time were reluctant to get ready for nursery we use to sing It's nursery today, it's nursery today Ee I audio it's nursery today We're going to go and play, we're going to go and play... That sort of thing Have you seen th sing Amd sign DVD? Good song We're putting on our shoes, we're putting on our shoes We're putting on our coats... Thy sort of thing

  20. To me: babies do need naps even if they don't show signs easily Don't bother trying to spoon feed When letting the baby self feed, go for variety, not lack of mess potential Don't book up lots of classes Make at least one good solid 'mummy friend' Wine is fine If it all gets too much, have a bath Realise everyone else is as clueless as you even if they have very organised nappy bags Never lock the baby in the car Or the house
  21. In the midst of d&v I would just give weak orange squash Make slushy lollies with it too
  22. I would think the presence of a 4m old baby in your bed is a major factor ... How about popping a cot bed mattress and little sleeping bag on the floor of your room and say if he needs to come in, can he snuggle in there without waking you?
  23. I would go with a DVD Sing and sign Sells on amazon It's been a favourite in our house for almost 9 years!
  24. I think it probably further engrains a certain attitude in existing DM readers and will no doubt result in a fair bit of tutting at poor mothers in supermarkets handling 2 year olds who are just being two year olds...!
