  1. Merry Xmas Late start here, miracle! Have has bucks fizz and special brekkie, after baby nap we are off to Dulwich park for oldest to try his new bike
  2. Hope you feel better soon
  3. A signed print for her bedroom wall?
  4. Horrible to catch news from across the Atlantic, Enfamil formula gas been withdrawn from sale by many retailers after a baby died from cronobacter Sakazakii. http://www.businessweek.com/ap/financialnews/D9RQFPVO2.htm I believe in the us, consumers are less aware that infant formula powder isn't sterile. My heart goes out to this family. :-(
  5. Shrub? Nice garden pot? Cookery book
  6. A Hand made quilt?
  7. A charm bracelet, which will come in to its own later? Annual membership to London zoo?
  8. Just bumping this thread, reminded because I got a christmas card and a badge today from the milk bank. If you have a young baby please think about donating - all it involves is a visit to kings for blood tests - after that they supply the bottles and collect the milk from you. Even small quantities are valuable - a very Prem bSby may only take 5ml per feed. Donor Breast milk really improves outcomes for these babies.
  9. My understanding is a computer does all the work ... For each school, ranking all applicants then for each child, looking at each choice in turn, starting with the first, until it finds a school where you rank highly enough to be offered a place If you are eligible for more than one school, your offer will be for the one you chose higher up your list It was more of a gamble when southwark gave priority to 'closest community school' above straight forward distance because if your closest community school was your first choice, you could get in ahead of other children who lived closer (but for whom another community school was their closest) So not putting your closest school first was a bit of a gamble That criterion no longer exists
  10. Still wrapping After glass of wine and a (medicinal) brandy Hic Note to self: do not mistakenly wrap putrid pink doll seat for ninja mad son, in error
  11. Try to resist the urge to squeeze the lump. I think me fiddling with the lump i got that was a bit weepy, probably helped a terrible infection take hold :-( Silly me. Oww, i do feel for you. Hopefully a night of enthusiastic feeding will help to sort it out. I have always been really probe to the feverish sort of mastitis.. esp with the twins if they missed feeds.
  12. The first time I got given antibiotics for mastitis, it was after a late night call to seldoc Whether they want to see you depends how certain they are that it's mastitis i suppose.. I suspect if you call and say you'd like an antibiotic prescribed to have to hand, and you would find it hard ti get into seldoc yourself tonight, they might well oblige. Worth a try!
  13. Crystal, I gave had mastitis maybe 10 tunes over the years (4 kids) and Only needed Ntibiitics twice though One of those was a humdinger of an abcess. IME, Sntibiotics are def necessary if a lump starts to weep and gets infected that way For me, other lumps and flu symptoms resolved with lots of feeding/boiling showers/nurofen I think you might be wise to get a prescription before you go away, just in case Perhaps call seldoc now and see if somebody can pick up the prescription for you? They might prescribe after a phone consult Can you freeze the milk to use when weaning? In ice cube trays?
  14. Didn't have stockings when I was small either One present on end of our bed to Open At dawn Rest downstairs Fc would bring all the presents, whoever they were from I don't remember fc bringing me much My mum didn't have much money, I think she wSnted the credit for the gifts we got! We now have stockings first (from Santa) Chocolate and small Nick nacks Then move on to bigger presents, done from us, from fc, from the elf who Lives in our chimney, from family Different paper for each X 4 children Hence = ocd
  15. It's important to use hot water because the powder itself is not sterile and can harbour dangerous bugs The food safety advice if a bottle cannot be made fresh with hot water is to use hot water stored in a flask, next choice is to make feeds up in advance, cool rapidly the store in the fridge for the shortest time possible Making up a feed with cooled boiled water isn't included in the safe options Things have come a circle really, my mum used to premake the feeds with hot water then keep in the fridge Don't quite know where idea appeared that using cooled boiled water turns the feed sterile somehow The cartons are sterile, is the safest option - but pricey
  16. I tend to buy up masses of paper in jan sales then forget and buy more in dec Two years ago mr f made me promises not to buy anymore so we ran out late Xmas eve and had to use birthday paper ... So snap pickle !
  17. Following on from the Xmas food thread ... What's your wrapping protocol? Stockings, wrapped items inside? Multiple children - random wrapping or a different paper for each? (and different paper for Santa) With 4 children and mr f I am currently managing a complex system of 9 types of paper which mr f keeps sabotaging
  18. Thank goodness one of mr f's sisters buys and wraps stockings for us (all 6 of us) and I just pay Have settled on cold meat, baked potatoes, red cabbage and a parsnip gratin for boxing day (various relatives coming, about half of us are veggy) and I will Make a pear and mincemeat strudel
  19. Colief works by part digesting the lactose (it's based on lactase) so perhaps he is lactose intolerant?
  20. Of course they will, crystal Though resist the urge to tSke a big bag and puck up all the hair to take home with you They might find that a bit excessive!
  21. Why is buying stuff so Complicated?! That's why I avoid it as much as possible!
  22. Ahah http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kaiser-Stroller-Thermo-Aktion-Terra/dp/B000ZNPXI6/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
  23. Amoxycillin isn't the right antibiotic for the bacteria that usually cause skin infections My son had flucloxicillin recently so I know how unpopular it is He gulped it down followed by water and a bit if chocolate, but it's easier to persuade an 8 year old
  24. I have a buggy snuggle ... Maybe cos ours is old ... Isn't that warm tbh
