  1. Funnily enough I was thinking the same today. Do the council ever water Street trees?
  2. I know that Melbourne does get used as a rat run but that surely involves fewer cars than sending every car wishing to go north, down there. I think if I lived there I'd be very unhappy with your suggestion although I can see the benefit for Lordship Lane, and it would also enable cars to drive even faster down Melbourne if it was one way.
  3. This is awful. Please contact both RSPCA and London wildlife project. I would have to move if I had a neighbour like that. What a vile man.
  4. The "bricks" are especially horrible if that photo is to be trusted.
  5. Sorry to hear that Sue. I must have got to them first and bribed them to stay. I'm actually West Dulwich rather than East but this is a far more interesting and active forum!
  6. Give your goldfinches some niger seed and your garden will fill with goldfinches. Last year I counted more than 20 at one time in my garden squabbling at the feeder!
  7. A big thank you to some of the posters here who have obviously gone to a lot of trouble to find the figures which appear to show show some very shady practices by the council. This sort of thing if true is outrageous, so I wonder if anybody legal knows how this can be taken to a higher level? I also agree with the poster above who said that we really need to see what happens in the months after lockdown because it may well lead to significant changes in people's travel and commuting, with more working from home etc.

They come too early for me to thank them in person, being an owl not a lark!
  9. I had 2 jackdaws eating peanuts from one of my hanging feeders today and then one of them discovered an empty feeder which I had filled with feathers from an old pillow, straw, and cat fur from brushing my cats! I think it's only fair that the cats contribute to the birds nest making...waste not want not. That jackdaw is going to make a very warm comfy nest. It's usually the sparrows which grab enormous beakfuls of the feathers on offer. They can barely see where they're going as they fly off leaving a cloud of feathers fluttering in their wake.
  10. Thirded...but don't hold your breath
  11. ...and Southwark still top or near top for prevalence of the virus in London boroughs. Pretty disgraceful

  13. I think you might get the goldfinches back a bit later in the year. Noticed in previous years they seem to disappear but return again when it's warmer!

  15. The lack of places to pick up a free Evening Standard is just another thing us SE Londonesr are "deprived" of together with the underground, circulating black cabs, Boris bikes etc etc. West Dulwich is even worse!
  16. Not very rare, but I have a greater spotted woodpecker visit every afternoon on one of my peanut feeders
  17. I walked alone in the park yesterday, very studiously maintaining my distance from people, but I was always the one having to move out of the way, which is fine but you might think they would want to be careful for their own sake. Two joggers side by side came up behind me, so I was unaware of them until one actualy knocked into my arm as they passed. Amazed at the arrogance and stupidity.
  18. I suspect the loo roll sell out is because, other than kitchen rolls, which also seem to be snapped up, there's no real alternatived...well not acceptable ones! Whereas most of us could rustle up something to eat if we run out of our preferred foods from odds and sods in the cupboards.
  19. One car parked there today between 4.00 and 5.00ish. I know it was wet and a weekday but I walk to and round the park several times a week and have never seen only 1 car. No idea if people are parking elsewhere or avoiding the park altogether.

YES to all this!
  21. A bit like the "Congestion Charge"... another policy ensuring ease of movement and pollution is fine as long as you're wealthy. I haven't checked the signage in the park, but are electric cars given free parking?
  22. I know it's a bit outside East Dulwich area, but Southwark have made a total and pointless pig's ear of the junction between College Road and the South Circular. For reasons I can't fathom, they have narrowed the area at the traffic light to single lane on College Rd. Only one car can get through at a time. If anyone is turning Right, cars wishing to go straight on, or left, are held in a huge queue. This is causing huge tailbacks at rush hour/school pick-up times and increased pollution. What was the purpose of this latest expensive messing around with junctions? The money would have been better spent on a camera at the traffic-lights on the South Circ as cars are forever jumping the light on red (from Forest Hill side) and nearly mowing down pedestrians crsssing the South Circular at the pelican crossing slightly further down opposite Dulwich College.
  23. It's a shame so many posters here seem so unsympathetic to older people who may not be disabled enough for BBs but can not walk a long way especially on muggers-paradise streets. Wait until you age....and you may well think very differently
  24. Really sorry to all who have had their cars smashed but do hope you report them all to the police...NOT because they will be able to do anything, but because we must get crimes recorded accurately so that when allocating resources, they take this upsurge of crime into consideration.
  25. Please send an online complaint as well. The more feedback they get the more likely they are to act.
