  1. TFL have put the maps on their site showing more alterations to the bus routes (mainly shortened) from 15th June. I hope some of you may get lucky with the changes but from where I live it's yet another degradation in service and SE London is already the worst served area in London for public transport. https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/buses/permanent-bus-changes
  2. ....and watch the anticipated big price rise next year for the audacity of having a brown garden RECYCLING bin, enabling the Council to compost on a large scale and then sell it back to us.
  3. Yet more discrimination against older people not up to speed with mobile technology or those with poor dexterity who can't use or don't want to use a phone to pay, eg. maybe have security concerns.

What a depressing outcome. Very sorry for you and the OP as I think we would all assume they would have been "nabbed" with such good photos etc
  5. It's the same in West Dulwich although they finally came and emptied them today. Thought it was just my street which had been missed but clearly a more widespread problem.
  6. More very positive feedback for Lee and Simon of Garvey Plumbing & Heating (www.garveypandh.co.uk). My plumber retired recently and so I checked here for a recommendation and seeing so many great references, I contacted Lee Garvey yesterday. Was amazed and delighted that they could do the work today. Simon has just been and very quickly sorted the plumbing out for my washing machine. He was also very personable. Like many, I've had some bad experiences in the past with unreliable companies so think it's important to give credit where it's due. I will definitely use Garveys next time I have a heating/plumbing problem. Thank you to those of you here who suggested them. Note: I had no previous knowledge of this company and can verify this is a genuine review with no "conflict of interest"
  7. It's only ?30 a year for this first year, although actual charge is ?25 this year, as the new charge is starting part way through the year. Expect it will double next year. Totally ridiculous that I have had to order yet another ugly PLASTIC bin for food waste that can no longer be put into the Garden bin I'm now paying for. Moronic Council
  8. and good luck getting any useful response from Dulwich Estate...not a well run organisation in my opinion. Do hope you manage to get hold of the sign. What a lovely idea.
  9. Poor cat! They need whiskers to judge width so they know whether, if they stick their head in a gap, their body will also fit through.
  10. I agree with original poster. I'm also looking to move from there. The re-registration questionnaire I had to complete was full of loaded questions along the lines of "do you want a whiter smile?" "Would you like more even teeth?" Mind you I think the Townley Rd original dentist went downhill when Shane left and has dropped further downhill with this new takeover
  11. Your poor dog. Fingers crossed he or she makes full recovery
  12. I love seeing the foxes and also feed them in my garden. They are a good deal more welcome than some of the people in this area....but not tried them on ribs!
  13. No I certainly don't. Lived in Southwark for 35+ yrs, initially as a Leaseholder, and EVERY dealing I've had with this Council has been simply terrible and infuriated me. When staff answering the phone are asked to direct my call to a higher authority because they can not answer my query, they simply cut the call off, or divert you to a non-functioning extension number....and certainly NOT because I have been rude or aggressive! Their Consultations are simply a very costly time-wasting box-ticking exercise since they will implement whatever they had planned irrespective of the results of the so-called "consultations".
  14. Easy to buy too much when he offers a BOGOFF type deal, and when you forget how full the freezer is already!
  15. I've bought some very good fish this way. It just cuts "the middle man" out, but I did get persuaded to buy far too much!
  16. Thank you for rescuing poor Gordon...and to the owner, I dearly hope he will pull through. From a 4 cat household!
  17. It's an absurd argument so say that as 50% don't have a car in Southwark, it's unfair for them to be paying some Council tax towards car users. I don't have children but am paying for schools and maternity care etc...and am very happy to do so!
  18. ...and whichever way any of these "consultations" go, Southwark Council will do exactly what it wants, as per usual. I'm sick to death of contributing via Council Tax to these pointless/meaningless consultations. If we had tubes, "Boris" bikes, and a better network of buses (including east-west) etc we might feel less hard done by. I bet the Council is full of younger people who have no idea how hard walking everywhere is when older, and standing at bus stops because there are no seats. Can't wait to escape SE London and London overall
  19. I know the police do absolutely nothing and it's a hassle time-wise to report these types of break-ins etc. but please report it anyway. Unless there are accurate (and the real shocking) figs to show just how much crime is escalating, we have little chance of improving police response and forcing the Government into action. The real crime stats are likely to be far higher than published because we too often shrug and accept this as the new "normal"
  20. I assume it didn't look like it had lost its tail very recently and was injured?
  21. I'm so sorry you and your poor cat have had to go through this. I just can't fathom how people can be so horrendously cruel. Someone could have called the RSPCA or other animal charity. I really feel for you as a fellow 4-cat owner
  22. I imagine the reason they found people spent more when they come to Lordship Lane by foot or public transport rather than by car is because those shopping by car only have a short window of time to shop before they risk a parking ticket!
  23. I received this from work today..."starting Saturday 22 December 2018, Denmark Hill station will be launching a new passenger one-way system to reduce the level of congestion" Map attached Q&A Why are you installing a new one way system? 7,187,152 passengers used the station in 2016/17, an increase of 186,000 from the previous year. Numbers have been increasing year on year for the last five years and passenger congestion, particularly during the peak hours, has become a major concern. During the last passenger count just over 70% of passengers use the old overbridge to access and exit the platforms which creates congestion and results in people missing their trains. How will this affect me getting onto train? The new system will make it easier for passengers to access the platforms and board their trains. The system will stop passengers from walking up the stairs onto the old overbridge when they exit their trains which prevents passengers walking down the stairs to reach their trains. Exiting passengers will exit up the stairs on the new footbridge and along the ramp to the side of the station. How are you letting people know? A communication campaign is currently underway to let regular passengers know about the new system. Posters are up at the station, leaflets are being distributed at the station and by local businesses and we are emailing all Denmark Hill season ticket holders. The campaign will continue into the New Year as people return from their Christmas break and get used to the new system. How will this affect people with mobility issues? Passengers who have mobility issues, who need to use the lift to reach the platform should speak to staff when they arrive at the station. Staff will, whenever possible, escort them down the accessibility ramp, to ensure that they reach their train Are there any other plans to improve access at the station? The Council and Network Rail are looking at plans to build a second station entrance on Windsor Walk but this won?t be open until 2020 at the earliest. As passenger numbers increase every year we need to address the congestion now before it gets worse.
  24. As usual both organisations treating the paying public with utter contempt. Maybe make a formal complaint which probably won't make any difference but at least gets logged as yet another complaint against an appalling council
