  1. All the goals from Leatherhead v Dulwich - apparently the Leatherhead equaliser was in the sixth minute of injury time.

Peckhamgatecrasher Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > I've plumped for dressage, 100m heats and > synchronised diving Are you trying to win an award for the worst possible collection of Olympic tickets? :) Jeremy wrote The system is a bit shite, why can't you just buy tickets... first come first served? If you do it that way it's fastest finger on the trigger which isn't fair and also the touts are the winners as they have ways of scooping up tickets when it's first come first served. The system isn't great though, encourages you to overbook (I could be in real trouble if they all come off) and not transparent enough for me. My guess is Mr Jacques Roggeringu is sat stroking his cat whilst a computer programme works out how to fleece us to maximum effect and somehow demands from me ?1,000 to watch the heats of the Greco-Roman wrestling. Still, can't wait to go to some, but please not all, of the events I applied for.

Exactly, it is the public attack on the head's professional capabilities to do their job that is out of order. The head has no real right of reply does she? If the head was not happy with the way a parent at Goodrich was bringing up their child she wouldn't come on the EDF and exercise her democratic right to name the parent and castigate their child rearing capabilities and then justify it by saying it was, to use your words, an assessment that she was well within her rights to make. Goodrich parents should get off the forum and go through the correct channels if they want to complain about an individual's perfomance. If you had to say anything on the EDF why not just say "some parents are unhappy with some aspects of the school and are taking the matter up with governors and the LEA" instead of a vindictive and unqualified assassination of the headteacher's ability to do her job.
  4. Traveller1 wrote I think that the current head at Goodrich is awful. That is an asssessment that I feel that I am both entitled and well placed to make. It has absolute nothing to do with the colour of her skin or her gender but is based on my dealings with her over the period of time of her headship. She has demonstrated - in my opinion - not just poor judgement but indequate management skills and dreadful communication skills. Traveller1 - in what way is it right and fair that you carry out a personal and professional character assasination on the head? To do it on a public forum where the head has no real right of reply is a disgrace. I assume if in your work some customers had been complaining about you and advertised a public meeting using a poster depicting you surrounded with pitchforks you would find it "quite funny". If those same people had made very public criticisms on internet forums, articles had appeared in the national press etc would that seem fair on you, or would it feel like you were being hounded out of your job and your future career threatened? If you have personal issues with the head use the governors, local authority, MP or Dept of Educ.
  5. Might be setting up a Div 1 thread with Palace after the horror show against Scunthorpe. Unbeaten for months at home and we lose to Scunthorpe who had lost 9 away on the run. It's the away from that's killed us. A total of 0 away points on a Saturday all season! Our 7 points out of 63 away from home have all been midweek. Doncaster away (at least it's on Friday) then Leeds, Hull and Forest all going for the play offs. Will probably all come down to the last game.

I think Spurs fans deserve to gloat a bit this season given how well they have done in CL and would prefer them rather than City to get CL spot. Why on earth did Chelsea not start with Drogba up front? United fans in the pub were delighted he wasn't starting and worried as soon as he came on in the second half.
  7. You are right, Alleyn's are not applying to build on Metropolotian Open Land - they got that through last time Maybe one of the the EXISTING pitches in Peckham Park could be turned into an astroturf pitch and then maybe over subscription wouldn't be as much of an issue :))
  8. Great win for Liverpool. Annasfield, interested to know if Liverpool fans want to catch Spurs and get a Europa League finish or rather Spurs caught City to claim the 4th Champions League spot? If I were a Liverpool plan I guess I would just go with Spurs getting the 4th CL slot and therfore City the Europa. You would then avoid all those Sunday games that you get if you qualify for the Europa and City probably will probably not be able to get the top quality players who would only come if they were in the CL. It would then give a resurgent Liverpool a chance to concentrate on the league next year and even if winning the league is a step too far a much better chance of CL qualification.
  9. DJ/Huguenot I wasn't aware of any personal attacks, just what I saw as an inconsitency over DJ's views of its OK for more development at Alleyn's to help the schoolkids but serious objections to any use of Peckham Rye for schoolkids. DJ you are right, Harris Boys don't have room for exterior sports facilities, so in future will you be supporting any application from Harris Boys to use the sports facilities at Peckham Park as happens in many other local authorities? Er, I have not gone into flights of fancy or embellished my argument with the irrelevant example of a comparison with the lighting at DH league stadium, I specifically mentioned the astroturf behind it. The planning committee will indeed decide and not you, however me - and other residents - will be listened to, although I guess like previous Alleyn's applications which have see them eat into Metropolitan Open Land the floodlights will be approved. Most residents love living near the school, love the noise of kids playing sport in the evenings and at weekends, more than happy for them to have firework displays, events in the grounds etc - they live near a school and expect noise, development and some changes over the years. What I don't love, and you only know this if you are a resident, is Alleyn's: eating into Metropolitan Open Land for development getting planning permission for a large new gym saying how 1,000 plus local residents who were sports club members would benefit - then closing the sports club facilities for local residents - and giving a tiny notice period that adversely affected many clubs and societies that had bee using the facilities for years attempts to turn a playground into a car park - which the long suffering residents of Hillsboro Road had to fight getting planning permission for a major junior school extension on the grounds that they closed the Lytcott Road entrance - only for them to come back a few years later attempting to open it again getting planning permission for the astro turf on the basis on no floodlights, only for them to come back again a few years later asking for floodlights So you see to someone outside the area its "floodlights until 6.30, what's the problem? 1-2 lux, that's nothing". No doubt the planning committee view it the same way and most of the previous history is irrelevant to the application so it will go through. For many local resident thought it's about more than floodlights until 6.30. It's about Alleyn's lack of honesty over many years about planning decisions. If they had shown more honesty in the past perhaps residents might believe a pledge to only have floodlights until 6.30 but you just know 2,3 5 years, they will be back asking for more time for fllodlights or another slice of MOL land to develop.
  10. There are way more than 3 objections already in from local residents, Huguenot you can email in your support but address, Singapore, is unlikely to sway many on the council. DJKillaQueen you can email your support from Peckham. As an enthusiastic supporter of extra sporting activities for schoolchildren and seemingly in favour of Metropolitan Open Land being built over and having floodlights, perhaps you want to reconsider your local position. When it was suggested that Harris Boys might be allowed to set foot into Peckham Rye Park and use the exisiting sports facilities and pitches, you seemed outraged by the fact. You also criticised people for daring to go back on previously agreed planning applications (a bit like Alleyn's are doing) and suggested the kids be sent to Burgess Park to play sport. In light of your conversion I look forward to your wholehearted support if Harris Boys suggest investing in new changing facilities in the park and a floodlit astroturf pitch which the all the community could benefit from every day of the year. Or maybe, just maybe, local residents have a bit more local backgound and knowledge about their own area and previous planning applications.

Objecting to > 6.30 because you believe that Alleyns will the > then make further applications to change the > operating hours will not be considered as a valid > objection I'm afraid. Exactly, the original planning application was granted on condition of no floodlights, now they have come back asking for floodlights, so residents are objecting mainly on the grounds on light and noise pollution as they did with the original application. We are not objecting on the grounds that hours may be extended at some point in the future, simply stating the case that as on previous applications they are likely to ask for more at a future date, when they do we will object to that as well. If the pitch was hidden away and had no effect on houses we would not be objecting. For example where the JAGS floodlit pitch is sited is pretty good, with a large amount on the light being blocked out by the Charter School and JAGS school buildings, although even there I am sure it probably impacts on the houses on Nairne Grove.
  12. The current application is lights up until 6.30pm, however the original planning application included floodlights in use until 10pm. They got the planning application through on condition they dropped the floodlights. So a bit of time elapses and Alleyn's then apply for floodlights, So a bit more time elapses and they ask to extend the use of lights to 8,9, or 10pm perhaps? Why should we believe it will be limited to 6.30 when experience shows us that Alleyn's will bide their time and come back at a later date to get what they really want. This is not the only time Alleyn's have got planning permission through promising one thing and then at a later date tried to get certain conditions that were imposed reversed. Huguenot - 8x15m high floodlights are not quite the same as a streetlamp.
  13. Huguenot wrote - I can't see how light pollution has any legitimacy. We all live on well lit roads in a bustling city. If you want darkness put up blinds. Absolutely laughable response, the answer to floodlights opposite your house is to put up blinds! The location is not a bustling city. Townley road is a very quiet suburban road, on the edge of a conservation area surrounded by Metropolitan Open Land. An area according to Southwark Plan 2007 Planning Document "A suburban area where the existing character and form of buildings is maintained. The area's large open spaces will be protected. New development will not make parking and traffic congestion in the area worse.'' I am not having a go at Alleyn's for anthying I can think of, others had stated not having floodlights was a waste of resources and praised Alleyn's community programme. I responded that Alleyn's don't make full use of their current resources and are not really that active in their community programme but manage to tick a couple of boxes to help prove their charitable status. Some of the comments may be/seem a little off topic but Alleyn's have continually shown that their desire to expand their school facilities on a somewhat restricred site has come at the lost of Metropolitan Open Land. It seems fairly reasonable for local residents to object to this.

  15. How to showboat when taking a penalty
  16. Townley Green - I have tried twice to ask for a long term booking to use the sports facilities, told they would get back to me, they never did, despite me chasing them. There is some community use but Mandarin, Chess tutoring, sailing instruction and woodcraft folk are not exactly aiming for a wide target market are they! They let local schools use the grounds for the last week of the summer term (when Alleyns has already closed) for sports days. If they really wanted to show community spirit they could let schools and clubs have some use of their cricket and football pitches (which wouldn't require floodlights) or how about at Easter getting a charity in to run a sports programme for disadvantaged kids making use of their facilities. Well they don't do that because there is a private profit-making company using the facilities. Remember private schools have to now prove that they are of "public benefit" and desrerving of the tax breaks that charitable status brings so Allyens pretty much has no choice but to allow some access, but a "community programme" really? Duncanm - Aware of a small tennis area with floodlights, but not a full size football pitch with 15m high lights. Perhaps people who live there would like to comment on if its an issue for them?

Alleyns astro turf is a waste of resources, as are most of the sports facilities at Alleyns. They got the planning application in for the astro turf saying it would be a great community facility and also that hundreds of local people who were members of Alleyns Sports Club would benefit. Alleyns then closed the sports club. As far as I am aware apart from a hockey club no part of the community gets to use the astro turf pitch, or the football pitches, or the cricket pitches, or the tennis courts. Therefore the only beneficiary of fllodlights is likely to be Alleyns, not the community. Duncan, you ask what is the problem with floodlights until 10pm? As you work at Dulwich Sports Club I suggest you walk over to the houses on Turney Road and ask them if they would like a full size astro turf pitch at the bottom of their garden with 15m floodlights on until 10pm at night. Do you think they might see the problem?
  18. DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > TBF what mattees is the type of floodlighting > used. There are many types of downward pitch > lights that don't cause neighbouring light > pollution beyond that of street lighting. Lighting has got better but still makes an impact. You can see the glow from the Dulwich College pitches from the Court Lane entrance of Dulwich Park. You can see the lights from the pitches behind Dulwich Hamlet from the JAGS Sports Club entrance. To call that the equivalent of street lighting is ridiculous. The last time Alleyns tried this they wanted to hire out the pitches until 10pm every night and they employed experts to say there would be no light pollution. This time they have been more subtle ...we only real want it for an hour or so, in the winter...for the children. But the planning also states it is not exclusively for school use. Once Alleyns have the lights in it then becomes easier for them to extend the opening hours to later in the evening. Alleyns, first with the astro turf pitch and Pavillion (which they tried hiring out for private parties), then the new arts block are constantly eating into Metropolitan Open Land. What was once a fantastic building is now being spoilt by over development.
  19. I noticed that Alleyns School have put in a planning application for 8 floodlights on their sports pitch. Last time they did this there was a huge campaign mounted against it and a meeting at St Barnabas Church attracted huundreds. Not heard any complaints this time, are people aware of the application? I understand the initial application was for early evenings and mainly - not exclusively - school use. I wonder how long it will be before Alleyns start offering the facility for hire and ask for extended hours so the pitch can be used until 9pm every night?

OK I'll get on my soapbox. People will support clubs for a variety of reasons, where they live, family connections, and for kids, who is doing well at the time. The number supporting the big teams grows ever larger, they might be passionate about their support for the club, but for me if you are not going to the matches it's just not the same. Whats really hacks off supporters of smaller teams is the derision from supporters of the big clubs, yet ask them how many times they have been to see their club and too often it's never, or for a special occasion. I feel sorry for most of the kids who choose the big teams to support, most will never watch them live due to distance or cost. I would like to think a kid would get a lot more joy from going to matches regularly, experiencing the atmoshpere, the odd trip to the pub to feel the pre-match build up, seeing local kids getting a game and appreciating that football has its ups and downs. Going to a game every other week has got to create a lot more feeling and memories than sitting in an armchair with the remote control. Kids season ticket at Palace or Millwall around ?50-?80 - probably get you to see 2 or 3 games at Chelsea or Arsenal, if you have paid your "membership fee". I appreciate too many fans are priced out of watching their club but there are too many "plastic/armhchair fans" who follow the best teams from hundreds of miles away, yes they can be passionate and have valid opinions, but I always have more time for people who actually go and watch games at their local club.
  22. Arsenal missed a chance on Saturday. Utd played five full backs and a midfield made up with three defenders but Arsenal never looked like winning, really missing a Viera or Adams to rally the troops. Guess Arsenal would want Utd to win against Marseille tomorrow, Utd would have to play Arsenal and Chelsea after the Champions League semi-final games and the number of matches and injuries might count against them. Still a very good chance for Arsenal to win the league if they can regain their confidence. Saw Palace lose away - again! Home form as good as Leeds, but away form the worst in the whole of the football league, at least we are only losing by one goal now rather than three or four.
  23. RVP sending off was ridiculous, even if he knew he was offside he wasn't wasting time, the Fabregas back heel was criminal though. Only seen 5 min highlights but reports suggest Aresnal tried to play them at their own game. For Arsenal or any side surely you need to try something different to beat them like Mourinho did last year? Stat of the day is that since OPTTA started doing the Champions Leagues stats over 10 years ago Arsenal are the first side ever to have no shots in a match. Great win for Palace last night with an incredible back heel into the bottom corner - would Messi be proud of it, no - the player misckicked, spun round to look for the ball and inadvertently it hit his heel and trickled into the corner.:)) - it's great when luck is with you for once. Bellamy was awful by the way. Good luck to Spurs tonight, always seems to be a great atmosphere at WHL for evening matches.
  24. It will be tough for Arsenal but with Pique and Puyol missing from the centre of defence this gives Arsenal a much better chance. You can get 5/1 on the draw and 8/1 on an Arsenal win - the bookies are usually right but those odds look generous. Would like to see Arsenal go through, knocking the favourites out gives all the English teams a much better chance of winning.
  25. Tiddles - you asked about Peckham Academy ofsted report 2009 - improving but a long, long way to go. If Kingsdale and Charter are not an option then Harris Boys and Harris Girls (already well on the turn) are pretty good options and with more kids from East Dulwich now likely to attend will improve further.
