  1. I thought Blackburn would stick with him until the end of the season as it would be the safest way for the new owners guaranteeing staying up and protecting their investment. Today they were 10th favourites to get relegated with a favourable run of games coming up, think the odds on them getting relegated will drop. Now thinking of owners who would be keen to protect their investment and who need to see a bit more fight in their team...Gold and Sullivan? I hate Allardyce football by the way.

Do people think it is s good idea? Of course you should, but most people who are fit and able to do it are simply too lazy to bother or are busy complaining why the council haven't snow ploughed, gritted and and no doubt already re-tarmaced the pot-holes in their street, their pavement, their garden path.
  3. Alpe D'awson Snow Report All runs complete, good cover but runs getting a little worn in places. For those of you without sledges there are alternatives which I saw today and would rate as follows: 1) Bodyboards - faster than slegdes 4) Trays - plastic or metal, nice and fast but children only please 3) Estate agent signs - Ludlow Thompson perhaps for the first time, the agent of choice 4) Lilos/Paddling pools - the shinier the better, with handles for the upmarket version 5) Surfboard - fast but perhaps a danger to other users 6) Bin liners/plastic bags - can work but prone to deteriorate 6) Recycling lids/boxes - seem like a good idea but don't really work 7) Brown velour sofa - can fit all the kids on it but tendency to get stuck So not to worry if there are no sledges to be found, I'm sure you, like your fellow East Dulwich citizens can come up with your own alternative.

Southwark Council issued an edict to all drivers of gritters that none should cross the thershold of a Labour ward. No doubt this gritting gerrymandering will be exposed by Wikileaks any minute. Conspiracy is everywhere.
  5. Really hope we get the World Cup, if we don't the next likely date is 2030. Some FIFA officials are no doubt very dodgy but liked the line I heard on the radio the other day "No doubt the BBC will be running a Panorama special on the royal family 3 days before the Royal Wedding".
  6. Just seen two buses stuck on Lordship Lane by Townley Road junction, going up the hill towards Duwlcih Library.

Ronaldo has 51 goals in 54 appearances for Real, think that's pretty good going myself.
  8. It has been the same problem at Arsenal for years, four key positions have needed to be filled and even if Wenger had had joy in two of them Arsenal would have won some trophies. Arsenal play great technical football but Wenger seems to think every player he signs has to be technically perfect, they don't. Sometimes you need to compromise and find the right type of player with the right attitude that will more than make up their lack of technical ability. The following isn't necessarily a serious list of who he should have bought, I am sure there are better options, but add say Given, Parker and Crouch to the Arsenal team and they would be better and have more steel/character in the team than they do now. goalkeeper (Given, Schwarzer) centre half (tough centre halfs aren't hard to find) defensive midfielder (Scott Parker) extra attacker (target man. Kevin Davies, Peter Crouch) As Wenger saw how good Bould, Keown and Adams were just can't understand why he is so scared of buying someone who isn't technically perfect. Perhaps if Dein was still there he could have persuaded him. Anyway Arsenal would be mad to get rid of Wenger.
  9. Hacked off. Palace go more than half the match with 10 men but go 2-1 up with a great goal and then 2 goals in the last 5 minutes to lose 3-2. The bloody ref, Anthony Taylor (demoted from the Premiership), and I don't normally criticise refs as they have a really difficult job, but so many crucial decisions wrong today. 3 pens - 2 of them wrong - 1 of them against Palace unbelievably bad Equalising goal for Sheff Utd a blatant offside 2 red cards - both wrong/bad refereeing Even the Sheff Utd fans abusing the ref at the end of the match and they won! And even Gary Speed felt sorry for Palace. Football bloody hell!

Hope they sack Big Sam ASAP. > > Oh please let it be so!!!!!! I hate Sam's style of football and I would love it if they got relegated. However if you were the new owner, Sam has proved at Bolton for years that he can keep a team in the premiership without spending much money. The safe % option for the new owners is to stick with Sam. Blackburn are only 9th favourite to go down, if they changed manager their odds on getting relegated would increase. Having said that Bolton did manage the trick last year with Coyle, but Blackburn more likely to change at the end of the season if at all. Sad of course but the owners will look to protect their investment rather than thinking about playing good football.
  11. A lovely take on the Masterchef final, I particularly like the jus with the chicken pie.
  12. Apparently she's one of the reserves but sounds like she'll be going in soon. And already we have our first quoute. "One moment I was in my bath in Camberwell, the next I was at Heathrow" Perhaps we should guess at what other local references she will fit in. "It's not like swimming in the pool at JAGS" "Ooh what I'd give for a William Rose sauasage"
  13. Perhaps we should expect lots of East Dulwich/Camberwell references on the programme - Jenny Eclair set to join the fun today along with Dom Joly.
  14. At Palace on Saturday, thats two wins on the trot - Palace storm up the table to er, 23rd Utd were poor but 2-0 down with 10 mins to go and nearly won it, not many would do that, looks like Rooney back next weekend.
  15. Emerson Crane Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Whats your point, mine was that neither side went > for the win for fear of losing, yours is? My point - shared by most of the newspapers and the comments from players from both sides - is that it was that it was Utd who were looked to be pushing for the win in the second half, with City much the happier to take a point. I'm certainly not saying Utd went gung ho for it as Berbatov would have stayed on the pitch when Hernandez came on. I think Utd were there for the taking, shame not to see City go for jugular.

  17. Back to the football. Only saw the second half last night but City showed no ambition whatsoever. At one stage they had 3 players attacking on the edge of the Utd box and every other City player was in their own half! For a Wolves or Birmingham etc at home to Utd you could excuse not pushing players forward and settling for a point but I expected more from City. The fact is though that Mancini sees it as a point gained. Only 7 goals at home from 6 home league games, they may grind their way into 4th place but not sure it will be much fun to watch.
  18. Very entertaining game at Palace last night, Palace winning 3-2 and some superb goals, the Ambrose goal arguably better than Torres second v Chelsea and a screamer from Garvan. A season ticket for under under 16's is only ?70! and if you have moved here from up north/Scotland is it realistic or fair on your kids that they can only support your original team but never/rarely see them? Start watching a local team, it's got to be better than your kids not going to football or deciding to support Chelsea or Arsenal but only going once a year for a birthday treat along with a visit to the megastore. So give Palace a go its only 20mins away by car or train, or even try Millwall, Palace is a tad more friendly though:)
  19. Off to Palace tonight, some nice football under Burley at times but no bite in midfield. With Ambrose and Danns back we may have a good chance tonight v Watford.
  20. I have contacted a couple of the local councillors about the closure and also Tessa Jowell. Waiting to hear back. I notice in the South London Press article Harris say they had a "consultaion process". I don't know anyone, users or residents who was consulted. Seems to be a case of thanks for the public funds to build the sports centre Southwark taxpayers but we have now decided to keep it for ourselves.

    Airport Security

Its purpose is not to > make people safer. Suppliers of security theatre > equipment also do pretty well out of it. Bruce Schneier is great on security and says that of all the billions spent on security since 9/11 only two things have made any difference. 1). Reinforcing the cockpit door 2). Convincing passengers to fight back "Everything else is window dressing"Why airport security is rubbish
  22. Had fun watching the Spurs and United games at the same time, the Spurs game won hands down and Bale was unbelievable. Solid performance from United and Bebe scored, maybe he's worth a few quid after all.

    Dulwich Park

You can access Belair Park at any time by going through the entrance by Beauberry House. It is very dark though.
  24. The information I heard was that they were losing money under Fusion so decided to run things themselves. However they brought in inexperienced staff, got rid of the ability to pay by switch or credit card and stopped any marketing or promotion of the facilities. With very little notice they then tried to double hire rates and then more recently announced closure with similar lack of notice. If you were the suspicious type you might suspect that this was a deliberate policy to discourage groups using the facility and gradually wind the operation down. They can then "prove" that there is no real demand and that in this time of austerity they had no option but to close the facility to the public. If it is true that public money was spent in return for community access I hope that our local politicians investigate a little further.
