  1. Looking at our garden today it looks like somebody might have been trying to break into our house, several tools from outside have been moved about and lids (with bird food in...sorry burglars) taken off boxes, clematis all torn off the side of the fence, pots moved (to clear access to windows). I know it doesn't sound like much but I happened to come home at 4.30 am and went in to the kitchen, it may be that I frightened them off when I switched the lights on. Ivanhoe is a target for burglars anyway as it backs on to the railway, and a while back there was a really big bout of burglaries on our road, our house being one of the ones targeted. Seems like a no-brainer to be vigilant at all times, but I know our household gets sloppy with it sometimes...forgetting to take all laptops, ipods etc out of the kitchen or forgetting to screw the windows down in particular. Be extra careful! Also, irritatingly the back wheel of my bike was stolen from my bike which was locked up in my front garden. My own fault entirely - living in Oxford I get out of the habit of double locking my bike so when I'm back in London I forget to. F***ING BURGLARS!!
  2. Thanks El Pibe... I'll have to try it some time, can imagine it would feel good! Pounding repetitive beats still exist yaknow! This was theee hype track of 2011,huge in the bass/grime scene

This post was meant to be informing of a robbery outside your constituency and nothing you've written has been helpful in the slightest to inhabitants of Ivanhoe road, which has had 8 robberies in the past month, making it a 'priority area' according to the police. If you want to wax lyrical about how great anti burglary provisions of ED are, can you do it on another post please.

  6. Just heard that another neighbour, about 10 doors down was also burgaled last night. Loz: yes we did report the burglary. They looked for prints but found none. Jeremy: yes our house does back on to the railway line. Kylie: we are pretty much opposite Hoopers.
  7. got in through the kitchen window which they forced open, breaking the lock. Took two laptops, two phones, an ipod and two bottles of rum from the kitchen. Purse from the living room. And the back door keys, so now we can't get out to the garden to see if they've taken any tools. Such a bloody pain. This is at least the third or fourth burglary on Ivanhoe in the past few weeks, so be extra vigilant people.
  8. You should check the school websites for dates, although the cycle for this academic year will have finished as the colleges have already made their offers. 6th form open evenings usually happen in the Christmas term. also if you (or kids) want info on Askes 6th form feel free to PM me (I've given info to a few families in the past)

Was that meant to be funny? tbh you should've just kept your head under the parapet.
  10. on the plus side (if this is a plus side) you're guaranteed a place at the secondary. And yes, they are temporarily being housed in the senior school's grounds but they do have their own playground and access to the senior school's facilites; library, sports hall etc. In terms of the quality of teaching I'm not sure, but I do know that their music department is really strong.

  12. yeah a sax would fit in a pannier no problem. Just wish I could find a way to cycle with my cello!
  13. I used to get it to Aske's in new cross and my sister still gets it every morning. It is often late, and yes at the moment it is on diversion through peckham which delays it. I was often late to school, but only because I never got it together to catch the earlier bus, which would've got me there in good time even if it was 15 minutes late - make sure you allow for that!
  14. That's really terrible! and at 3.15, in a park! Hope your son's okay.
  15. erm you've posted in the wrong section, this should be in 'family room classified' :)
  16. Thank you PR and LM! I'm going to be ok, it's not particularly serious but the thing they have to watch out for is trapped air in the lung which is painful. Unfortuately it means I can't go on aeroplanes for at least 6 weeks, so christmas with my family in Mexico is out of the question!
  17. ...at the bottom of Copleston road this morning. Thank you so much for taking care of me when I was obviously in excruciating pain, doubled over and unable to walk. It turned out I had a punctured lung. And to all of the many, many passers by who just looked at me and walked on, shame on you.
  18. well they ran off when the door broke, luckily because the two of us wouldn't have been able to do anything apart from hide and call the police if the gang had come storming in...
  19. Oh please, orange juice on your window sills? Our front door got kicked down because we didn't answer the bell.
  20. I don't go there but I know quite a few people who do, they really enjoy it. The music, drama and art departments are particularly strong, you can wear your own clothes (massive plus) and it seems to be a friendly and hardworking place with good A level results; I have friends who have left to go on to study at Cambridge, Bristol and York. Also, I don't know whether you are looking at Haberdashers' but with the subjects that your son is interested in I would really not reccommend it (I know from first hand experience). Hope this helps!

  22. Any nursery school can call themself a Montessori school without employing a single member of Montessori trained staff or using any Montessori material. Montessori Education UK has a list of the accredited Montessori schools in London (click here).

Thanks. Reason for drop: it was a really bad year group. I should know, I was the year above them, they were the first year to be admitted after the massive change in intake to academy status and I don't think Askes staff were prepared for the implications of the change. They have adjusted in the last five years but by the time that happened this year group had been 'written off' by most of the teachers.
