  1. Definitely go with Cello! When you first start practicing you can't do more than about 15 mins solid work anyway as it's quite physically tiring. So there wouldn't be much point in hiring a space, as the best way to practice at first is little and often (ideally daily) as opposed to in hour long chunks. Also as KalamityKel says, it's really not a noisy instrument (even less noisy than the violin because it's lower and not as...screechy) so don't worry about upsetting the neighbours.
  2. Oh yes I read about that project in G2. There was a piano on Camberwell Green a little while ago but it's gone now...the one on Peckham Rye must be thanks to the same scheme
  3. Check out this link for sport in ED and surrouding area. In fact the whole of the Southwark website has details on loads of youth clubs, I've never been but I have friends who used to go to them and had a great time. My 14 year old sister does dance in a really small centre in Dulwich, could give you the details if you're interested... Also, when your girls start school, which ever school they go to will for sure have lots and lots of after school enrichment activites on offer to suit everyone; my school had everything from choir to film club to cooking...I think there was even a knitting club at one point! Hope this helps...

Yes! According to The meaning of Liff it's called Shoeburyness

  7. I think Curly is right in asking whether the teachers going to be able to manage the challenging behaviour if they have not had to deal with it in the past. I think they will be able to manage but it may take the school a bit of time to adjust. I should know, when I got in it was still a selective school, and I was in about year 8 when it changed into an academy, thus changing the intake and making the sibling policy etc applicable. The following year group was really rowdy and I think we sensed that the teachers were initially thrown. But they adjusted, stricter rules were put into place and the teachers changed their tactics. So in that sense, the teachers have already had experience of quite a big intake change. Also, if Askes do have to get a lot of new teachers in for September, they're bound to be really strict anyway - new teachers usually are!
  8. The exact same thing happened to two girls I know last week, which does make me think that, unfortunately, Daizie's experience is completely true. These girls (aged 17 and 18) were walking through peckham rye park together at about 3 pm when a boy in uniform came up to them and started trying to chat them up. His two friends were hanging around on bikes a little way off. When the girls made it clear they weren't interested and walked away he followed them, grabbed one of the girl's breasts and exposed himself. The girls ran back to their house and informed the police. This happened right outside the one o clock club.
  9. Fair enough pk, the only reason I posted was I've seen other people do it so I thought it might be worth a try. If no one claims within the next couple of days I'll hand them in.
  10. No they don't have a safety cutter on I'm afraid, the keyrings would suggest that the owner was scottish. I put up a notice on a tree near to where I found the keys but someone has taken it down... Thanks curlykaren I will keep an eye out for ads too.
  11. I found a bunch of about 6 keys including 2 very small ones. PM me if you think they might be yours.
  12. *Little sister(3) hits big sister (5)* mum: why did you hit your sister? Lil sis: For a moment mummy I forgot the true meaning of happiness.
  13. After reading such good feedback on here I'm going there tomorrow!
  14. Several members of staff have left actually - last year the whole geography department left in one go.
  15. My mum slipped over on a stray grape in there once, she made a complaint and they asked her to write down her name and address. A week later she got sent a Sainsbury's job application form.
  16. Break in happened just outside Hoopers pub on Ivanhoe road.
  17. I second that - our car got broken into the day before yesterday.
  18. my dad taught robert downey jr the oboe
  19. Yes, I think he has no intention of retiring for good few years, he's only in his mid 50s. He's going to be on The One Show (BBC1) on 7th April btw, conducting the Aske's orchestra. Watch it!

  21. Hate this part - Pussycat Dolls
  22. Walk this way - Aerosmith
  23. It definitely has gone downhill over the past few years, my little sis is in year 9 now and she is amazed at the rudeness of some (not all, of course) of the younger students. I too have found that the way the school deals with bullying could be much better. The music department is still really fantastic and enthusiastic though.
