  1. You should check the school websites for dates, although the cycle for this academic year will have finished as the colleges have already made their offers. 6th form open evenings usually happen in the Christmas term. also if you (or kids) want info on Askes 6th form feel free to PM me (I've given info to a few families in the past)

Was that meant to be funny? tbh you should've just kept your head under the parapet.
  3. on the plus side (if this is a plus side) you're guaranteed a place at the secondary. And yes, they are temporarily being housed in the senior school's grounds but they do have their own playground and access to the senior school's facilites; library, sports hall etc. In terms of the quality of teaching I'm not sure, but I do know that their music department is really strong.

  5. yeah a sax would fit in a pannier no problem. Just wish I could find a way to cycle with my cello!
  6. I used to get it to Aske's in new cross and my sister still gets it every morning. It is often late, and yes at the moment it is on diversion through peckham which delays it. I was often late to school, but only because I never got it together to catch the earlier bus, which would've got me there in good time even if it was 15 minutes late - make sure you allow for that!
  7. That's really terrible! and at 3.15, in a park! Hope your son's okay.
  8. erm you've posted in the wrong section, this should be in 'family room classified' :)
  9. Thank you PR and LM! I'm going to be ok, it's not particularly serious but the thing they have to watch out for is trapped air in the lung which is painful. Unfortuately it means I can't go on aeroplanes for at least 6 weeks, so christmas with my family in Mexico is out of the question!
  10. ...at the bottom of Copleston road this morning. Thank you so much for taking care of me when I was obviously in excruciating pain, doubled over and unable to walk. It turned out I had a punctured lung. And to all of the many, many passers by who just looked at me and walked on, shame on you.
  11. well they ran off when the door broke, luckily because the two of us wouldn't have been able to do anything apart from hide and call the police if the gang had come storming in...
  12. Oh please, orange juice on your window sills? Our front door got kicked down because we didn't answer the bell.
  13. I don't go there but I know quite a few people who do, they really enjoy it. The music, drama and art departments are particularly strong, you can wear your own clothes (massive plus) and it seems to be a friendly and hardworking place with good A level results; I have friends who have left to go on to study at Cambridge, Bristol and York. Also, I don't know whether you are looking at Haberdashers' but with the subjects that your son is interested in I would really not reccommend it (I know from first hand experience). Hope this helps!

  15. Any nursery school can call themself a Montessori school without employing a single member of Montessori trained staff or using any Montessori material. Montessori Education UK has a list of the accredited Montessori schools in London (click here).

Thanks. Reason for drop: it was a really bad year group. I should know, I was the year above them, they were the first year to be admitted after the massive change in intake to academy status and I don't think Askes staff were prepared for the implications of the change. They have adjusted in the last five years but by the time that happened this year group had been 'written off' by most of the teachers.

  19. that's part of it but there is more
  20. ok I've got one, what do these words have in common- almost, biopsy, chintz
  21. I made this chocolate cake for my dad's bday on the 9th and it went down such a treat, it's so delicious! I left off the naff chocolate curls though...
  22. I take my cello on the bus quite often - should I have to pay extra? It takes up the same amount of space as a small person!
  23. My sister's birthday is the 31st of August, so she's obviously always been the the youngest in her class. She's doing fine academically and is by no means lagging behind her peers. She's also very tall for her age (she's 14 years old and 5'11) and looks like she could easily be a 6th former; she cringes at the idea that she could so nearly have been in the year below - even though she's only four days older than the eldest girl in that year!
  24. Although I chose A levels over IB, a lot of my friends moved to Dartford Boys Grammar to do IB and are really enjoying themselves. The main reason for me not considering it was that you have to do a big range of subjects and I wanted to focus on languages, History and Music - the thought of having to do Maths and a Science didn't appeal to me. However, if you're an all-rounder and want to keep your options open then it's a really good choice. It's also good for people who do a lot of extra curricular activities because, like Duke of Edinburgh, IB requires you to have a sport, skill and service.
