Yes Spartacus - as I said above some is joining up between councils BUT loss of a lot of service too.

Some joining up of service provision with other councils BUT mainly just cuts. https://www.wandsworthguardian.co.uk/news/17517855.wandsworth-council-cut-600-staff-eight-years-childrens-services-hardest-hit/ HP

  8. We've been here before with the previous iteration relying on water being able to flow uphill.Shame lesson wasn't learnt from that one. Really sad to see this mass of concrete with non-working water feature and dead/ dying planting 😢

  12. What the fudge was a dog doing off lead near there? And where was the owner? Poor goose/goslings Hoping for a posirive update on then. HP

Have 3 cats - but all street strays I've rescued, neutered etc. 2 teenagers - can't really ditch them. Never had a car. Haven't flown (except once for work) since 2004. A mix of personal ethos and not being well off in my case. HP
  16. Assume ditching pets was meant to be a trite comment. Certainly will piss off all the rescues who work so hard to pick up the pieces when people really do ditch their pets/ don't neuter them and then have unwanted litters. HP

And plenty of local/ small projects and initiatives that can show those in power some real solutions. But without real structural change around energy supply and demand and living more sustainably in general- which requires governmental, business, cultural and international change - I think we're going to hell on a handcart. Rockets - re: women gaining the vote - you stick to that one particular facet of your very narrow analysis all you want... I don't suppose anything I or other say would change your mind. There are plenty of historical analyses that give a far more rounded picture of the various influences that worked both for and against women getting the vote over a period of time from the late C19th onwards and on the impact of social protest in general. Re: ' I think that's called intellectual evolution' - ironically the book I linked to above may suggest otherwise. HP
  21. Sue's right - we're contemplating an existential threat as a species. Some people including some EDFers will continue along the 'Don't Look Up' path, This book's interesting for anyone wondering about humanity's difficulty facing up to the threat: https://southwark.spydus.co.uk/cgi-bin/spydus.exe/FULL/WPAC/BIBENQ/437740099/71467036,1 HP

Probably depends how the group behaves no? Personally, I'm keeping an open mind, as I would do for any group doing the same whether or not I agree with their mission. HP
  23. Agree with their aims so I'll be taking them up on their (poster) offer and going along to find out more... HP
