Now running in the Family Room. Closed.

I shall be participating again this year. A 100% attendance record. I also hope to maintain my high standard from last year of managing to finish at the same time as the winner of the ladies race. Rumours that I only pace-set for her due to a picturesque posterior are utterly unfounded. Sterling work chaps. BARRY!

So....a UN resolution has been passed and US, UK, French and Arab nations will work together to enforce a no-fly zone over Libya to help protect civilians. Gadaffi is already closing in on Benghazi and is bombing the city so things must move very quickly to be successful. Could this be a foreign policy triumph for Cameron? Leading the international community and ensuring cooperation to overthrow a dictator without putting troops on the ground. I have concerns over military overstretch however. Tornados and Typhoons have been committed whereas Harriers off a aircraft carrier would have been perfect had they not been scrapped. I suspect planed will launch from Cyprus but the logistics are frightening.

Early morning flight ex Gatwick. Best way there?

I humbly stand corrected. Although I'd like to point out I only use the Gatwick Express when work are paying! -
Japan & Nuclear Catastrophe?

What sort of help? -
Oh gawd - the day-release boys and girls have joined forces. Ridgeley - genius! You criticise Loz for guessing at your political convictions (he didn't btw) and then call him a Tory. Utter brilliance. And whilst I'm flattered to be descirbed as the "local leftie" my motivation here is just elucidation. Or just a level of debate that wouldn't make a 6th Form common room look like Chatham House. You have no idea what on earth you are talking about. You didn't know the nationality. You didn't know the location. You didn't know the salaries. You don't understand European labour laws. You want shelf-stackers to earn more? Is that it? Is that what you want to say? You want to make a devastatingly salient point about macro-economics and income inequality? Go for it - because I'm all ears. But you don't. You just want a meaningless soundbite without engaging in the issues and as soon as someone pulls you up you start stamping your feet and throwing your toys out the pram. It's pathetic. I care. About society, about wages, about poverty. Check my posting history. Chances are, on a vague political spectrum, I'm unfortunate enough to share space with you both. But for fucks sake, grow up, read a book and write something that doesn't make me want to gouge my own eyes out due to it's relentless inanity.

I'm going to have nightmares now.

So your problem is with the minimum wage then, not Tesco at all. Zeban, Tarot, Ridgely - if you could put together a coherent argument people might give you the time of day but you just mumble some regurgitated "facts" and wonder why others ignore or belittle you. Secondly, with free movement of labour across the EU people are free to seek employment wherever they choose. And quite right too. You three seem to be tilting at windmills here without even understanding the details or the macro picture.

Japan & Nuclear Catastrophe?
david_carnell replied to Marmora Man's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
When the Banqio dam failed in China, no one suggested that world-wide hydro-electric power was dangerous and needed to be immediately halted. It was seen as a 1-in-2000 year flood that no amount of engineering expertise could have prevented. We try and make better plans for the future, mourn the loss of life and move on. The same is true here. Whilst I am far from a fan of nuclear power, the hyperbolic and excessive reaction from the anti-nuclear camp in this instance is something to be ashamed of. -

Comes with the job, Quids. Can't work in Westminster and not follow ol' Paul. Doesn't mean I like him. I rather imagine you do though.... -

From Guido: "Being a gossip-monger means that sometimes, given the nature of gossip, you don?t have all the pieces of a story or you can?t prove it. For example when there are only two people in the room, who won?t comment on what they were doing in the room, it would be difficult to establish with certainty in front of a judge what they were doing. Or sometimes a judge prevents you even when you know? "So there was this ****** bloke who worked closely with another ****** colleague, they apparently began an adulterous affair not long after the ****ing crisis of 2008. He went to Court to stop it getting out that he had been banging her. Because he is the most notorious ****** of his generation he also banned references to his profession lest he be identified. Guido would be in contempt of Court if he told you his name or profession?" -

Fair enough. I don't think it's for everyone. I guess I view it as a positive to have a better understanding and appreciation of where my meat comes from, how it gets to my plate and think this can only be beneficial for promoting animal welfare. Also, I hope it will lead to fuller use of the animal. I'm an advocate of nose-to-tail eating and home butchery often allows for use of under-rated and under-used cuts that otherwise go to waste. Finally, and related to the above, it's a value for money experiment. I'm intrigued as to the sort of mark-up a butcher makes through their ability to butcher, store, and age meat. Can I do the same? Will I make enough profit from one pig to cover overheads such as a second-hand chest freezer and some butchery equipment. Whilst I don't mind the teasing on this thread, I don't think it's weird and believe that more people would benefit from a greater understanding of animal rearing, salughtering, butchering and eating.

Don't worry Jezza - the steak in a little plastic tray, wrapped in plastic is still available at many local stores. It's just waiting for you. I'm teasing, but why do you find it so strange?
-
Does anyone do butchery at home? Would you be interested in a home butchery club? Has anyone done a butchery course? Where? Did you like it? Does anyone buy whole carcasses, do home curing or smoking? Any advice or information gratefully received.....

Not about Egypt, but Libya this time. The Telegraph carrying an interesting viewpoint on the "botched" MI6/SAS mission.

I've done a private cabin with a partner from Paris to Florence and it was great fun and a very realxing way to travel. I much preferred the experience to flying. Downsides: expense; the food was just as bad if not worse and expensive; we arrived very early in the morning in Florence and thus couldn't check into our hotel for that night so had to wander around without having been able to shower or change after a 20hour train journey. Not nice. 50:50

What could possibly be a relevent excuse? 10 secs before the camera rolls he says, "So I've just been cast as a racist bigot in a film and this is the type of thing I reckon would work....what do you think?" Pur-lease. Like Mockers, I couldn't give two shits about the industry or the vacuous pillocks who inhabit it, but this guy is a 24 carat dick. There isn't even a debate to be had here.
