I went in there once and once was enough, only just stepped through the door before being jumped on by a member of staff, ok not jumped on but not given a chance to browse around before being insistingly asked what I wanted.

Shame this could not have been done earlier in the year when Underhill Road was closed for a couple of months whilst Thames Water dug the large hole in the road. James - can you ask TfL / Southwark Council how long Whatley Road will be closed for these works?

There was a reggae store under the arches at Peckham Rye Station and I think also in the indoor market. Further away where Bluebird Records, in Church Street off the Edgeware Road and City Sounds in Holborn.

I'm really fussy about bread, by chance I found the in store baked bread in the Forest Hill Road Co-op but more than often they are out of stock because I suspect it comes frozen, goes into the oven and gets basked,so have to use Lordship Lane and it's the same quality every time. The bread is hard because it's the crust which is supposed to be hard, if you cut a slice the bread is as it should be. Have always found their in store baked bread to be really good. Co-op seem to be able to consistently bake good bread in store. If you want soft squichy bread suggest buying it from Tesco or Asda.

I want COC to be just that, a cemetery where we can go and mourn our dead relatives. The land in question is currently over grown and is in the cemetery. The Council now wish to clear this area to revert it back into ground for burials which is what it was originally intended to be for. As others have said we have plenty of other green space very, very local to where we all live. If people want to call an overgrown area a wood and then give it a name that is unrecognised, perhaps they should target their interests elsewhere. Is it not better to clear the overgrown area and use it for burials rather than using more of Honor Oak Rec. This is surely the best option, as maybe when land for burials is full in the borough, an area of Peckham Rye Common could be next to be used as a cemetery and no one would be happy to see that happen.

Croissants from the bakers on Camberwell Church Street used to be good, what are they like now?

SOUTHWARK WOODS DOES NOT EXIST AND HAS NEVER EVER DONE SO. IF YOU WANT GREEN SPACE AND TREES JUST LOOK AROUND AND SEE THE GREAT NORTH WOOD, HORNIMANS GARDENS, HORNIMANS PARK, PRCKHAN RYE COMMON, PECKHAM RYE PARK, BRENCHLEY GARDENS AND OH, ONE TREE HILL AS WELL. IT IS A CEMETERY TO BURY THOSE WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY AND THAT RELATIVES AND FRIENDS CAN GO AND PAY THEIR RESPECTS AND REMEMBER THEIR LOVED ONES. IT IS A CEMETERY, NOT A PLAYGROUND, IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE A PEACEFUL PLACE FOR REFLECTION AND REMEMBRANCE. THE GRAVE IS THE PLACE WHERE WE GO TO DO THIS, IT GIVES COMFORT AND IS A WAY OF REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE DIED. WE DO THIS BY PLACING FLOWERS, TENDING THE GRAVE AND SPENDING SOME PRECIOUS TIME AT THE GRAVESIDE. JOOLS - I AM REALLY TIRING OF THE UTTER C##P YOU ARE AND CONTINUE TO SPOUT. YOU MAY NOT BELIEVE IN DEATH, BURIAL, MOURNING OR REMEMBERING LOVED ONES WHO HAVE PASSED AWAY, BUT FOR SOME OF US IT IS AN IMPORTANT WAY OF REFLECTING AND MAINTAINING LINKS WITH THE PAST. And James, at times like this I despair with what you say.

........but the freshly baked bread is good. And I'd welcome a Lidl here in Dulwich.

IMO seems as though labour have gone Left, very far left, standing there signing the Red Flag. With 7 of the Shadow Cabinet resigning, the rats are already leaving the sinking ship. Government will be a long way off for Corbyn & co. PMQ's this Wednesday will be very interesting, Cameron now has an adversary who is more senior to him so let the game's begin.

Is the Southwark Street Design Manual a public document, James can you post it on here? -
And it would be good if they stopped at the requested stop, rather than drive past and pull up at the next one as happened this evening on Underhill Road in direction of Peckham.

North Cross Road / Lordship Lane roadworks dangerous

Can I ask why the kerb stone is being replaced and why it seems as though the pavement is being widened so making turning left out of North Cross road more hazardous? -

I can't argue the figures you quote as I do not know how you arrived at these, however burial in Southwark is not cheap and even more expensive for those who live just the other side of Woodvale in Lewisham (or as you would probably call us the enemy). Why should people be buried further away from where they lived and died? It is a cemetery that the Council are using/developing to allow more burials (is that not a good thing rather than converting more of Honor Oak Rec into burial space). The primary point of a cemetery is to bury the dead. Nature conservation - yes its nice but it is not the primary reason for a working cemetery. If you want nature conservation you have got the the railway embankment walk from London Road along the back of Woodvale, The Great Woods at Sydenham Hill and One Tree Hill to mention but three, so how much nature conservation do you want? As I said yesterday we are spoilt for geenery around here. Let cemeteries be used for what there purpose is, to bury our loved ones once they have passed away. Not being a youngster, I would much prefer burial locally here rather then relatives having to visit a grave in all the way over at Hither Green or Grove Park and can think of no where nicer than to be buried in Camberwell Old Cemetery, a stone throw from where I was born, live and hope to be buried in. So can I end by maybe suggesting having your pick nick in the beautiful Horniman Gardens or Horniman Park which are designed for that type of activity and leave the cemetery so we can visit our dead relatives in the peace, tranquillity and solitude they and we deserve.
-
Re: maintenance standards of cemeteries, if you go to Hither Green cemetery it is not that well kept, however Grove Park seems better kept.
-
No it is not a wood, it is an area of graves that has been over green by trees, shrubs and weeds that you wish to describe as woods, when it clearly anything but. Camberwell Old Cemetery is a place to bury our dead relatives, friends or acquaintances, pay ones respect to them, visit relatives graves to remember them in peace and solitude, it is NOT a place for picnics or jogging or lying about in or dog walking all of which I have witnessed (well apart from picnic's). It is not and never has been Southwark Woods, it is Camberwell Old Cemetery. Cemeteries have a purpose and that is to bury the dead. If you want woods can I suggest you go to the Great North Woods behind Sydenham Hill, it can clearly be seen from the Underhill Road/Langton Rise junction, or if you want greenery can I also suggest that you go and walk through Brenchley Gardens, over One Tree Hill, through Peckham Rye Park and the Common and if that is not enough greenery to take in, you can also go to Horniman Gardens and across from the museum to Hornimans Park like generations of residents have over the years. Don't try to make something which it is not. We are spoilt for green spaces around SE22 and SE23 so go out and enjoy the space that already exist, but please do not be disrespectful to all those buried in Camberwell Old Cemetery with this campaign to make the cemetery into something which it is not.
-
There are no woods in Camberwell Old Cemetery, you'll find it is an area of graves over grown with trees.

And extremely friendly and helpful as well.

Same here. walked past about 9.20pm while the amazing emergency services were trying to release the man from under the bus, truly horrible and tragic. Traffic was still coming towards the accident along Grove Vale at that time, but traffic coming down Dog Kennel Hill was being stopped by a man in the road.

yes it's here, saw one thins mornimg in Rye Lane and another tonight going towards Dulwich along Peckham Rye.
