Thought I'd revive this thread, I've made a couple of updates but corrections and further updates needed. Reg.

And when it goes off like this it should be sent to the LOUNGE where discussions that are not specifically about East Dulwich belong. Please Admin, do your stuff as you did with Goodrich school thread. -
Whilst shopping at the dulwich fair on goose green today... (Lounged)
Reg Smeeton replied to dully's topic in The Lounge
This thread has turned into yet another race discussion (zzzzz), nothing to do with East Dulwich gossip, can it go to the lounge where it belongs. -

Ma Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Oh dear...ED is certainly getting unsafe. Never > heard of so many muggings. Ive lived here 20 > years and loved it (and still do) Er, this is probably because 20 years ago there wasn't an EDF to report the muggings on. -
What has happened to the Mind Shop?
Reg Smeeton replied to huncamunca's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If there's stuff that the Mind shop is unable to sell because of high prices, I suggest they donate it to a charity shop. -
Lordship Lane - best highstreet in London? (The Times)
Reg Smeeton replied to Saila's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
It's probably the best high street in London AND Iceland. -
Whatever happened to....(various)

Thanks Karrie. I somehow doubt Parkhill have gone, but maybe they're treading water. As far as I know the police station is an admin centre rather than a base for bobbies-on-the-beat, so as far as the community is concerned I don't think it would be a loss, and they'd be getting rid of a bit of an eyesore too. Having said which, who knows what would be built in its place. -
Whatever happened to: 1) The new library that was going to be built next to ED station (replacing Garden centre) 2) The closure of ED police station 3) Parkhill Properties, who were on a quest to buy up every commercial property on Lordship Lane

Good riddance to a restaurant that topped the bad-service awards for a decade.

Late night licensing on Lordship Lane
Reg Smeeton replied to madger's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
One of the most intimidating places I ever went on a Saturday night was posh Canterbury. East Dulwich at 10pm is bliss compared to almost anywhere I can think of that has a pulse. But why pander to a tiny minority of the local population by offering further opportunities for rowdy drunkenness in the small hours, especially before a school/weekday? -
Two trees on Melbourne Grove opposite Chesterfield Grove appear to be dead - though it looks like they came into leaf briefly. Deyhdration? Are other trees at risk, especially the many newly planted ones? Does the Council water trees or do they rely on nature and the public? So many questions...

Anyone heard of Godwin's Law? (If you haven't, look it up)

Presumably he was in East Dulwich for a few days too. Around 1984? -
..and in Village ward, Robin the tree lady (Lib Dem) pinches a seat from the Tories http://www.southwark.gov.uk/site/custom_scripts/viewelection.php?pollid=14

Have I missed something, or has nobody yet commented that Tessa Jowell has not only retained her seat, but with a similar, maybe even increased majority. This is so out of kilter with the (clearly unrepresentative) EDF poll that put Labour in third place. I'm gobsmacked, it's as if the last four weeks never happened.

Take a virtual tour of the new Harris Academy
Reg Smeeton replied to Reg Smeeton's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Can we establish some facts. I believe that when the school is finally 'full' there will be 750 boys up to GCSE (years 7-11) and then a sixth form that will be mixed with the girls academy, so that there will never be 900 boys on site, though there might be 825 boys + 75 girls, for example. Can anyone confirm? The implication when the plans went through was that there would never actually be 900 onsite, as there would always be groups offsite doing games etc. What's the reality? -
Youths selling overpriced dishcloths door-to-door
Reg Smeeton replied to kford's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Tonight's conversation (about 9:30pm) went roughly as follows: Him: I'm selling dishcloths, ?3 Me: Sorry, I'm not interested, especially at this time of night. Thank you. Him: You f*** c***, what you f***ing... (and so on as the door clicks shut) -
No T-Mobile coverage in ED today
Reg Smeeton replied to Cassius's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anyone else getting no signal on t-mobile / Virgin today? Is it due to the dense cloud? -
Some updates made to the list.

I remember petrol siphoning being endemic in the 1970s when the oil price rocketed, and then it seemed to disappear in the 80s/90s (partly because it became standard for petrol caps to have locks, partly because petrol became relatively cheap again). This annoying fad will probably run for a while, just like copper and lead-stripping did a couple of years ago.

What's happening to Crystal Palace Road?!
Reg Smeeton replied to rosieglow's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Mightyroar understands me so well. Families round here have always tended to flee to the burbs when their children reach teens, but some stay and since there are far more primary children here now than for decades, expect more teens soon. Worth thinking about where they'll be expected to hang out.
