  1. If you know the owner of the black Mercedes C class estate (reg LS21 EUD) that's parked on Crawthew Grove, please let them know they had two wheels stolen last night (Fri/Sat) and it's currently up on a jack. Sorry if I'm the bearer of bad news.

However, there is now plenty of evidence that brief contact outside in fresh air very much limits the chance of passing on the virus. I imagine most of the young people enjoying the skate park are currently being told by the government it's safe for them to return to stuffy classrooms, sixth form colleges or university courses/halls, or to go back to their minimum-wage, public-facing jobs. Mostly via public transport. With a shambles of a test and trace systems. Are they really being that reckless in comparison? Seems there are so many other failings that you could direct your ire towards. If it came down to a choice of the two, I think I'd rather take my chances chatting in the skate park than picking up some asparagus in M&S or hopping on the 176 with the chin-warmer brigade.

Our street already had shields fitted, but they disappeared when the new streetlights were fitted yesterday. Possibly not compatible with the new LED fittings? A simpler solution would surely be to reduce the output of the lights with timers?
  4. The streetlights in our street already had light shields fitted to shade bedroom windows. The shields were all removed when the lights were replaced with LEDs yesterday. I don't mind the colour temperature, and the light spread seems a little more directed, but these new lights are almost painfully bright from certain angles, and way more powerful than is necessary or desirable after, say, midnight. I'll definitely contact the council to request that they be dimmed later at night, for the benefit of people and wildlife.
  5. Oh dear, 2 years running? Thanks dbboy. Looks like head office officially frown upon them when contacted by the media, but it's actually left up to individual branch managers. I voted with my feet last night, but I'll contact the manager and head office today. Hope others will do the same.
  6. Popped into M&S on Lordship Lane this evening and was pretty disgusted to find the UCKG allowed to collect money in there through bag packing and carol singing. It's not obvious that they're an international church (their logo could be mistaken for the British Heart Foundation's at first glance) and when asked, they're very vague about what the collection funds. It seems M&S head office weren't happy about them operating in Hampstead last year, so why they're allowed in ED I don't know. https://www.hamhigh.co.uk/news/marks-and-spencer-investigate-hampstead-fundraising-by-universal-church-of-the-kingdom-of-god-1-5845999 For those that aren't familiar with them, the Universal Church of the Kingdom of God was founded in 1977 by Edir Macedo, a former lottery assistant, who propounded a doctrine of intense prayer, exorcisms and financial sacrifice. The church has frequently been accused of cult-like illegal activities and corruption, including money laundering, charlatanism, and witchcraft, as well as homophobia and intolerance towards other religions. UCKG leaders promote "prosperity theology" ? through which committed believers are told their faith and regular, generous donations can help them achieve material wealth. Members are expected to ?tithe? 10% of their gross income or benefits to the church. The UCKG has a turnover of over ?700 million, and their founder is now a billionaire. Do you remember the tragic case of 8 year old Victoria Climbi?? Although they were cleared of involvement in her murder, a UCKG Pastor saw her and expressed the view that she was possessed by an evil spirit. The UCKG had been planning to hold a service to "cast out the devil" from her on the day she died. Among other facts: in the past they've peddled miracle cures, and blamed headaches and depression on "demons". The church openly supports Brazil's president Jair Bolsonaro. The church spent an estimated ?130m on a replica of Solomon's Temple in S?o Paulo. Obviously people are entitled to their beliefs, and many religious groups do fantastic charitable work. However, at best UCKG are a proselytising religious group, at worst a dangerous, corrupt sect who prey on the desperate. In addition to bucket shaking, they've come to my door twice this week seeking donations. Please don't give them your money, there are far more deserving recipients. 7. Just a heads-up, as I returned home late Sunday night (11.40pm) I saw 3 males on - I guessed stolen - 'Boris' bikes slowly cycling down East Dulwich Road towards Goose Green roundabout. One peeled off down Spurling Road, and the other two turned onto Lordship Lane. The 3 regrouped on Crawthew Grove a couple of minutes later, and headed up towards CP Road. I parked up, and saw them return a few minutes after that. They cycled down Spurling Rd and began looking through the windows of all the parked cars. Obviously I called the police, but couldn't get hold of a human to speak to ("all our operators are dealing with emergencies...") despite hanging on. The three disappeared back up Crawthew Grove again and I went inside to report it online. No useful description - late teens/early twenties, one was white, not sure about the others, dark hoodies, South London accents. Posted really as a reminder not to leave anything valuable in your cars, and to consider where to cast your vote next month wisely.
  8. (Negative) comments submitted, thanks. I believe the deadline is Monday night, so there's still time to read up on the proposals and issues.
  9. Hi goldilocks, I'm afraid you're right - I've just reported it to the police online. If it turns out to be the council's contractors, I'll be livid, and it seems like a waste of over-stretched police resources. Not that I expect the boys at the crime lab are working shifts on this one... (possibly NSFW language ). Thanks. P.S. here's pic forgot to attach photo to my OP.
  10. Thanks Jakido, that's a useful link. Sadly no sign of my car in there though.
  11. Hello James, I wonder if you can help me before I have to go to the police. My car (taxed and insured) was parked on Crawthew Grove this morning, but when I returned mid afternoon it was gone. I was just about to report it stolen when I noticed a strip of new tarmac about 6m x 30cm where it had been stood (where the red car now is in the attached photo). Someone said a green van had been working there, so I?m assuming it was Conway, and that they moved my car to do some minor work. I can?t find the phone number of anyone to help on the Southwark website, and having called Conway I was told they have ?probably? moved it, but just get transferred to an answerphone. I?ve spent the last 90 minutes wandering the streets in the rain looking for my car in case it has been dumped nearby, but there?s no sign of it. There have not been any notices through the door about any work, nor have any of the lamp posts nearby got any notices on about resurfacing. As of yesterday there were no notices on the car, and I have specifically checked that it was not in an area affected by the new yellow line painting. I know I shouldn?t complain about road improvements, but unless its well advertised in advance or an emergency, is there any legal right to move a legally parked vehicle? I have a five year old who needs to be 100 miles away tomorrow, and an elderly mother with mobility issues, not to mention a business appointment in Cambridge, and no transport. Please can you help me find my car (silver Volvo V60 - happy to PM registration). Thank you, David
