  1. There used to be a recycling bag outside Soupdragon. Haven't used it for ages. so it may not be there anymore.
  2. The monthly NAS support for parents/carers of someone with autism is on tomorrow tonight, Wednesay 25th May 7.30pm, at The Mag, 211 Lordship Lane. Please do come along. I'll be sitting on the sofa in the corner from about 7.00pm.
  3. Hi James I found out who to contact about the special needs sessions at Peckham Rye adventure playground. The sessions are to continue with funding until November, perhaps beyond.
  4. Yes, first saw the swifts a couple of days ago. Heard them before I saw them, really.
  5. Hi James, any news about the SEN sessions at Peckham Rye Adventure Playground? Thanks
  6. Oh dear, that doesn't sound too hopeful. I'll pm you soon. Thanks for asking, though.
  7. It's a Jersey Tiger Moth. They have been seen increasingly in London in recent years, I discovered, after looking them up when I saw some in my garden last year.
  8. Peterstorm - most children already eat school meals, regardless of background/wealth, whatever. The ones who go home or have packed lunch don't do so because of cost, as they are more expensive options.
  9. It hasn't happened yet. I don't think Southwark should provide free school meals to everyone, whilst at the same time cutting the budget of Children's Services. How does that help those in need? Any child already getting free school meals gains nothing, yet may be losing other support/services.
  10. Hi James As you may know, Peckham Rye Adventure Playground has been holding sessions on Saturday mornings for disabled children (mostly ASD) only. The sessions have been a sort of pilot scheme, and I understand that there may be some doubt as to whether they will continue. Could I ask you to lend your support to keeping the sessions going? I fear that whoever makes the decision may think that there have not been high enough numbers of children going along, but the weather has been very cold and wet until the last few weeks, and numbers would certainly increase from now on. There is so little on offer for children with disabilities, and soon to be even less due to cuts. I should mention too, that these play sessions give parents/carers a chance to meet others in the same situation and do some of the networking we usually miss out on. It means a lot to us to be able to take our children to play in a safe, secure place. Thanks so much
  11. Southwark Council is cutting all sorts of services for vulnerable people, yet, at the same time wasting money on employing people to prune trees 'by mistake'. The lack of vision and 'joined up' services between departments is demoralising.
  12. The parent/carer support group for anyone caring for someone with Autism is on tomorrow evening at The Mag, 7.30pm. Do come along for a chat with others who share your experience...and maybe a glass of wine. Hope to see you there. I'll be sitting on the sofa in the corner. Teresa
  13. You could try knickers then pull ups on top, although the best advice is probably not to stress as bumpkin says. Hope all goes well.
  14. Please bear in mind that parents/carers of older children with disabilities (not always obvious!) may need to use those spaces too.
  15. The NAS support group for parent/ carers of someone with Autism is on tomorrow evening (Wednesday 23rd) at 7.30pm in The Mag pub. Please come along if you'd like to meet others in your situation for a chat & even a glass of wine, perhaps.
  16. I used pop in to St C's current shop whenever passing & found nice/interesting things to buy from time to time, but the last few months there's been nothing, so stopped going in much. I assumed it was down to the recession, but perhaps they have been keeping things to stock the new shop?
  17. CitizenEd - you're quite right. It's only by all of us using those local amenities that make a community; libraries, your milkman, independent shops and so on, that they can continue to exist in these straitened times. If we value them, we should use them.
