  1. The Post office next to Sainsburys Local has a cash machine, no need to cross the road to Lloyds.
  2. Yes, I heard it - wonder what it was? Sounded like like a very big firework.
  3. Gimme, I think you are deliberately missing the point. If the items on sale for charity are offered at unrealistic prices, and never sold, then donations to them are worthless. When I give stuff to a charity shop I have in mind that someone who needs/wants that item will reuse/recycle it as well as the charity making some small profit. The Mind shop does not make best use of the items donated if so many of us charity shop browsers don't even go in! P.S. The Big Issue is not worth buying anymore - it used to be great. These days I often give the seller the price of one and don't take the magazine. I also think that devalues the enterprise.
  4. Yes, it makes no sense to price things at a level at which they won't sell quickly, so as to make room for more. The stock is donated so any sensible price is profit for the charity. If customers know that there are new things every day they are far more likely to visit often I would think. I don't go in the Mind shop because it is too cluttered and overstocked, even after the revamp.
  5. Southwark Branch of the National Autistic Society will be hosting a Christmas Party on Sunday 5th December 4.00pm at St Johns & St Clements Church Hall, Goose Green. All families affected by autism welcome. No need to book, just come along on the day. Mulled wine for grown ups. Party games, sensory room for kids. Mince pies & festive fare for all. Hope to see you there. PS. children must remain accompanied by parents/carers.
  6. The Mag support group, for parents/carers of someone with ASC, is on Wednesday 27th October at 7.30pm. Please do come along, you will be warmly welcomed. I'll be sitting on the sofa near the fireplace at the back. Teresa
  7. Peckham Native - they were in my garden every day last week, Redwings too. They looked lovely sitting in the bare tree. I think they must have eaten everything available in my garden because haven't seen them for several days.
  8. Saw a starling in our living room yesterday - it fell down the chimney! Flew off unharmed when we opened the window. Luckily the cat was asleep in another room.
  9. Sue, I hadn't seen any since my childhood in Sussex - maybe the extra cold weather we had drove them to visit London. There is a large group of them, mainly Redwings I think, spending a lot of time sitting in the tree at the end of my garden. Hope you see them while they'r here!
  10. There's a small flock flock of Fieldfares and some Redwings visiting my garden at the moment. They are winter visitors, but I've never seen them in ED before. They are members of the thrush family & look very similar, especially in this grey, dreary weather.
  11. My daughter has always loved Chicken with green lentils, & it's very easy. Put tinned (for quickness) lentils in oven proof dish with a stalk of rosemary & whole, unpeeled garlic cloves (as many as you like) and a couple of wedges of lemon. Place chicken thighs or leg pieces (the whole meaty ones, not drumsticks) on top. Season and add stock & olive oil. Bake chicken on lowish heat til cooked & skin crispy. Serve with bread and salad. I like this dish because ther's no chopping to do, and it's all in one pot, and you can't really overcook it.
  12. At Last I am Free - Robert Wyatt You're gonna make me lonesome when you go - Bob Dylan
  13. I am a fairly tolerant person, BUT, Robert Elms should not be encouraged. I find him pompous, irritating in the extreme, & the embodiment of charmlessness. My other half used to insist we listened ti him in the car... trapped!!
  14. New York Telephone Conversation - Lou Reed
  15. Yes, water them. I'll share the blame in the unlikely event they drown.
  16. 59th Bridge Street Song - S & G again
  17. Last year some of the new trees planted in streets off LL had a label attached asking people to water them until they were established. If you feel like doing so, the instructions were to pour water in the pipe thing they plant next to the tree.
  18. I agree about the clock & the stock. Also, could you ask him to make sure they stock more 'Helen Brownings Organic Quick Cook Sausages'? They are nearly always sold out. Thank you
