  2. Exactly, their line is that they reckon they can negotiate a deal with the EU that won't make us worse off, which is just more 'cakeism'. As Strafer rightly pointed out, the EU is rules-based, you can't pin this on them and accuse them of not being flexible, or wanting to punish the UK for leaving. They are doing exactly what it says on the tin, something we co-wrote as a major member. The problem at the moment is that the UK Gov is still negotiating with itself...
  3. Well you wouldn't know would you, it would sort of go against the whole ethos of espionage if the public knew everything. There are a number of unexplained deaths of Russians in the UK, who might or might not have been spies. We'll probably never know. Maybe you should apply your own 'return to first principles' and ask yourself why would a Russian mafia type go to such extraordinary lengths to use an expensive and deadly nerve agent, with all the expertise needed in procuring it, transporting it, and finally administering it, all at great risk to their own lives, when a simple bullet to the head in typical mafia stylee would suffice?...

But would it pass Labour's 6 tests? One being that any deal must not make us worse off than we are now. With the Norway option we would be worse off. Labour couldn't vote for either... :)

He was more valuable to the Russians alive than dead i.e. a future spy swap. Had they killed him earlier they would've gained nothing, but by keeping him alive they at least get some of their spies back. This is long-term standard espionage trading-off, swap a 'traitor' for a 'hero'. Once exchanged, then he can be bumped off, a warning to others not to consider becoming double agents...
  6. There is an issue with buses, but why bring it up this week of all weeks. He could've at least mentioned the Brexit Bus :) Anyway, if anyone is feeling even the slightest bit sorry for the Maybot, don't... https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/the-chequers-summit-cannot-save-mays-premiership

I really hope we > lose. Farage and his ilk will try and hijack any success England might have, he previously called out the England v Belgium match as some sort of 'Brexit derby' FFS. Gareth Southgate pointedly said recently that this England team reflects the diversity of the country, let's not forget that, and call out the Farges for what they really are...
  9. Agree joe, the referendum was flawed from the start. The Irish showed us recently how a referendum should be conducted by having a proper consultation period beforehand. The post-referendum situation could've been bettered had May instructed the Brexiteers to go away and come up with a plan to implement Brexit. Let them own Brexit. Instead she charged head-first into triggering A50 without a plan, and made that naive, jingoistic tub-thumping Mansion Hose speech with all it's unrealistic red lines. Those red lines are now what the Brextremists unwavering adhere to, saying that's the Brexit they voted for for. Of course it wasn't, but that's all they've got to cling to now, along with insults of treachery etc...

  21. I would hold fire on making any bold predictions about whether or not there will be a 2nd ref, or indeed anything to do with Brexit right now. ''A week is a long time in politics'', and next week there's this big Chequers pow-wow. If May is unable to continue kicking the can down the road, then she somehow has to reach a consensus with her Cabinet, who have already started tearing strips of each other ahead of the meeting, so that's not looking good. The problem May has had since the election is that there isn't a majority in the HoC for the two likely outcomes, either a very soft, very long, Andrex Brexit in order to deal with the Irish border, or a very Hard Brexit/No Deal. I can't see either getting through Parliament without mass resignations, some kind of leadership challenge and/or a general election, and/or a 2nd ref. Joe, UKIP are currently a very different beast, even Farage thinks they have veered off to an extreme. They will attract the loony FreeTommy brigade, but that's about it...
