  2. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- And surely if there was a party wall notice it's a party wall on the boundary? Party Wall Notices can apply to walls/areas of work that aren't directly on the boundary e.g. foundation works that, if close enough, could undermine the neighbouring property...
  3. heartblock Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > It might have to be Lab/Lib/SNP.... Yep, the SNP would probably want IndyRef2 for their support, and the Lib Dems electoral reform as rah suggests...
  4. Rockets Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Yes and the way you are suggesting people look at the popular vote is the way Labour are trying to spin this as a victory but they know what we are seeing today is not good enough to win at a GE If you listen to politicians' spin, they all won last night :) But it's wrong to dismiss what happened in 2019 and only relate to Labour's performances in 2018 and 2022. This polling expert explains it well... Could Labour have done better in Red Wall areas? Of course, but they don't have to if the Tories lose seats in their southern Blue Wall, and there are signs that could happen, especially to the Lib Dems (Note: this is on 2018 v 2022, so reality is far worse for Tories with respect to what happened in 2019)... But analysis from polling expert Prof Sir John Curtice suggests, based on these results being repeated whenever Boris Johnson pulls the electoral trigger, Labour would not grab enough seats for a Westminster majority. In fact it would not even topple the Tories as the largest party in the Commons. I notice that he doesn't say the Tories would have an overall majority either. As things stand, I'd hazard a guess that if there was a GE tomorrow, the likely event is that there would be a hung parliament, leading to a Lab/Lib Dem coalition with Starmer as PM. I'd take that any day of the week, because right now we need competent middle ground consensus politics to get through some extremely difficult times ahead...
  5. Sue Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- The only reason I wouldn't vote Green in a general election is that I think Helen Hayes is an excellent constituency MP, as was Tessa Jowell before her. This might be another reason for you Sue. The Greens have recently said that once the Ukraine war is resolved, they will campaign for the UK to leave NATO. If so, that will be a big vote loser for them. Even the German Greens don't advocate such lunacy...
  6. Rockets Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- Looking at the results thus far I think Labour has a problem nationally - they should have cleaned-up in these elections... This has to be seen in the context that at the last local elections in 2018, Labour did very well, but then went on nationally a year later to perform terribly at the GE, so you can't just compare the 2018 and 2022 results in isolation and say Labour should've done much better, they were never going make huge gains in the number of seats. A better way is to look at Labour's share of the vote and how that would transpose if it were a GE, I'm sure some pollsters will be number crunching that info as we speak. The Tories are probably hurting from losing some key London seats but probably think they got away with one as they should have taken a hammering... The Tories losing Wandsworth and Westminster will be causing a lot more pain than just 'hurting'. These were Tory flagship councils, not just in London, but also nationally. Even when Blair won a landslide in '97 and subsequent elections, the Tories controlled these councils. As Tory MP for Wimbledon, Stephen Hammond, said this morning, angry Tory voters didn't just stay at home and not vote as many people thought they would, they actually came out and voted against the Tory party. That will send alarm bells ringing in CCHQ and Tory MP's sitting uncomfortably in marginal seats...

Nationally, it was Tweeted yesterday by some journalist or polling expert. Of course there could be local variations that buck the national trend...
  10. I'm not pro-Labour per se and therefore not an apologist for them, but the last time I looked, Corbyn wasn't leader and I don't think he's even got the Whip, so I think Labour nationally are trying to put their house in order with respect to the hard left in their party. What happens at the top feeds it's way down, hence why it's important to give this Gov a message that it's not wanted. Right now I couldn't give a flying fig whether or not there's an LTN in my street, there are far more important things happening in the country as a whole. In normal times I would agree with the sentiment that we should vote on national matters at a General Election not the locals, but we're not living in normal times. The sooner Johnson goes the better, and voting out Tory councilors/councils will help in that respect. Johnson will only go if Tory MPs kick him out, for that to have a chance of happening they need to be sent a message that Johnson has become an electoral liability...
  11. Rockets Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > So many people I have spoke. To seem to have been seduced by the narrative that local elections are about national issues (driven in the main by Labour) No one is being seduced. Lots of people are hacked-off with this current Gov, we need to prioritise, there's no point having nicey-nicey local Gov if the country is going to pot. It's naive in the extreme to think that if the Tories do well in the local elections, Johnson and his cabal won't grandstand about it and say it's a vindication of their policies. Get rid of this Gov, then sort out local issues...

  14. Thanks, you learn something new every day, too late for this season, still need to play my bench boost... :)
  15. Meds' to lose. Week 32 points... Week 32 table...
  16. Thanks for feedback Meds, after I posted I found out about that 'highest priority' reference but couldn't find out how you 'assign priorities'. I've tried to move my subs around the subs bench but they just return to their original position. I've sent a message to their help desk so await what they have to say...
  17. On the Fantasy Football game, if a player, say a defender, doesn't play that week, FF will automatically replace them with one of subs who plays in the same area i.e another defender, or if that's not possible, change the formation and sub in a midfielder or forward if possible. Does anyone know how they choose which player? I'd always assumed they picked the one with the most points, but this week they subbed in someone who only scored 1 point while another player who scored 11 points has been left on the bench. I've been robbed!...
  18. I've got similar sized tubs with all compost, I think the dryness is more to do with the newness of the compost, once you get plants in and roots get established, plus watering regularly (I second tom's tip about a good drenching but careful with your Geraniums) it will feel less powdery. Good practice every year to remove the top 4 inches or so of old compost as the nutrients will have been used up and top up with fresh compost and give it a good forking...
  19. As you're using it in large tubs, you could mix it with some topsoil if you want to stretch it out, say a 50/50 mix up to about two thirds full, then finish off the top third with compost only, but I wouldn't bother doing that for smaller pots/troughs etc. Some grit/old terracotta crocks at the bottom will help with drainage and stop the compost from oozing out of the drainage holes. Also depends on what you're growing, some plants like Fresias need a free-draining gritty mixture, and some plants don't like being grown in peat-based composts. Lavender thrives in poor soil so that could just as easily grow go in normal soil with no compost. I think Rosemary and some other herbs are the same. Veg on the other hand needs lots of nutrients so all compost would be better, maybe even mix in some well-rotted manure with it. What are you planning on growing?...

  21. Gotta love the sheer audacity of Porngate MP Neil Parish. And to then finish off with a little hand wave at the end. That's what your right hand's for, eh Neil :)
  22. Interesting that you should post that Ian, there was once an attempt to usurp the 100 game with a 73 game, and that would've been about 11 years ago. I trust that wasn't a coded attempt to instigate another attempt at a coup...
