Defending the indefensible - another PM thread
diable rouge replied to malumbu's topic in The Lounge
There was a recent poll and the UK came about third in a list of countries who Ukraine sees right now as an ally, higher than the US, France and Germany, and the main reason given for this was as Cat rightly points out, that the UK has been providing military support over the years. Whether this will change once the UK Gov's appalling response to Ukrainian refugees filters through, remains to be seen, but right now for Ukrainians on the ground it's about military support. But I think we should also be aware that this support was also good for UK Plc, we've been making money from it, and it could be said it's more to do with that than insightful long-term strategic military planning against a potential Russian invasion. We should also remember that during the same period the UK Gov has does nothing to stop Putin's oligarchs from essentially laundering their ill-gotten wealth through UK Plc, it's a global thing but the UK, in particular London, has been at the heart of it, hence the moniker Londongrad. All of which has backhandedly supported Putin and ergo the Russian war machine we see now... -
Because as I said before, it's an insult, and as such, just like if a racist insisted on using the n word, I wouldn't want to debate racial issues with them. Some people are beyond 'reaching out to', Oimussus is one of them. I wondered why many of the posters who had commented on the previous Oimissus thread on the same subject, haven't on this one, and I suspect for similar reasons...

Ah, the inevitable 'trying to shut down the debate' throw away line. I've no wish to give your nasty transphobic views and strawman arguments any more oxygen...

I fully support the right of trans people to live safely and happily in whatever gender they choose'' That's all well and good but Oimissus doesn't think the same and instead believes that a man who has transitioned to a woman is not a woman per se, and constantly and knowingly refers to them as a man, which is seen as an insult in the trans community. That's transphobia right there. There is indeed a serious debate to be had about how trans people can best be integrated into sport, but you can't have that debate with people like Oimissus who won't even recognise their identity and instead constantly throw insults...

Alan Medic Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is there anything considered wrong in suggesting > that trans people have their own category in > sports? It could be the way forward, but at the moment it just seems a handful of sportsmen/women across various events, so currently it would lack any competitive element. As an aside, female jockey Rachael Blackmore is proving that in some sports women can compete and even be better than men, so the whole argument about women who identify as men and vice versa have an unfair advantage, is blown out of the water...

Damn, pipped at the post, pass on congratulations to the Nut, and thanks for organising once again. Been quite a few memorable sporting moments in the last few days...Yarmolenko's emotional extra-time winner, Rachael Blackmore winning the Gold Cup, Italy's last gasp winning try, France's joy at winning the Grand Slam...just need an FA Cup upset today to complete the set...up the Forest! :)

I think you once mentioned Bob that your wife is from farming stock, therefore she will be used to waking up very early with the Cock, I realise you've probably tried hard to make her feel more at home in London with your attire of Cotton Trader's check flannel shirts and mustard jumbo cords, but I'm afraid those along with the early morning dulcet tones of Ken Bruce are a very poor substitute...

Switching Energy suppliers - any recommendations?
diable rouge replied to Studio-S.E.2.2.'s topic in The Lounge
Not that long ago, uSwitch, who's MO is to encourage people to switch suppliers (not just gas/electric), were advising people to hold tight on current energy deals as there was next to nothing to be gained from switching... -

If you haven't seen it already, Admin has posted about P3girl being the latest banned incarnation of a well-known troll/multi-account user on the Forum, so it wouldn't surprise me to hear they might be involved in other unscrupulous activities. This troll always posts on certain threads on the Forum, this LTN thread being one of them, so worth keeping an eye out for them in the future and letting Admin know if you have suspicions they have returned...

I've no idea if Hitler was a great speaker as I've only ever seen snippets from newsreels/documentaries etc, plus I don't speak German so I've also no idea of what he was actually saying let alone the context. Instead I think his success was more to do with his exploitation of visual communication/propaganda, especially film which was still a relatively new medium, not dissimilar to Putin's exploitation of social media in his disinformation war with the West since 2016. Dictators are clever in that respect. Hitler's speeches would've played some part, but his rallies were highly organised and choreographed events with the visual in mind e.g. the torch-lit processions, the Nazi insignia/flags etc, to such an extent that he even had his own film-maker to pre-plan them all. He also used architecture, in his case grandiose classical buildings in direct opposition to the new international style of Modernism which was seen as 'Socialist'. He even used fashion designer Boss to sex-up the uniforms (Star Wars is basically WW2 in space). He may have been a failed artist but he obviously understood the power of visual communication...
