  1. I've no idea if Hitler was a great speaker as I've only ever seen snippets from newsreels/documentaries etc, plus I don't speak German so I've also no idea of what he was actually saying let alone the context. Instead I think his success was more to do with his exploitation of visual communication/propaganda, especially film which was still a relatively new medium, not dissimilar to Putin's exploitation of social media in his disinformation war with the West since 2016. Dictators are clever in that respect. Hitler's speeches would've played some part, but his rallies were highly organised and choreographed events with the visual in mind e.g. the torch-lit processions, the Nazi insignia/flags etc, to such an extent that he even had his own film-maker to pre-plan them all. He also used architecture, in his case grandiose classical buildings in direct opposition to the new international style of Modernism which was seen as 'Socialist'. He even used fashion designer Boss to sex-up the uniforms (Star Wars is basically WW2 in space). He may have been a failed artist but he obviously understood the power of visual communication...
  2. I think "Clean Air Dulwich" also sometimes call themselves "Clean Air for Dulwich" which probably doesn't help Splitters!...

  9. Chick Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- ''That doesn't mean STW is pro Putin or pro Russia, just against all war's in what ever country and for what ever reason.'' Whooosh!...
  10. Chick Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- I still haven't seen any evidence to suggest STW are pro Russian, quite the opposite. Don't forget we were happy to bomb Syria. A look at STW's website this morning and it has 4 'leading articles', 2 of which are pointing the finger at NATO being the cause for the war in Ukraine. Just as important and telling is what someone doesn't say as well as what they say. And that was Tatchell's point, STW are quick to denounce/blame the West/NATO but say very little or nothing when it comes to Russia, preferring instead to chime out hackneyed excuses about it being NATO's fault/Western imperialism etc...
  11. As Peter Tatchell points out, STW have previous when it comes to covert support for Putin and Russia... When we stood in solidarity with #Syria's democrats against Russian imperialism in 2016, Stop the War did NOT condemn #Russia's terror bombing of civilians in #Aleppo & other Syrian cities. They called us "agents of US imperialism"
  12. Recent polls in Sweden and Finland now showing a majority in favour of joining NATO. This isn't NATO 'moving East', it's democratically run countries worried about Russia's actual expansionism/imperialism and bully boy threats...
  13. Gary Kasparov doesn't mince his words on the subject... The US far behind Europe still, and it?s no coincidence that the UK, where so much Russian money lives, has done so little. Corruption is the only word for it. If they expose it, they will be implicated themselves. We know that the Tory party has accepted donations from Russian nationals, one in particular with very close links to Putin. On Wednesday Tory chairman Ben Elliot's concierge firm suddenly removed the web page about its Russian business which includes work for billionaire oligarchs close to Putin. What other links are there, and how deep do they go? Why did Johnson prevent the release of the Russia Report? Lots of journalists now all over this, and if Partygate is anything to go by, the truth eventually comes out...

  16. Still no sign of UK sanctions against Russian oligarchs, yet more 'blusterism' empty rhetoric from a PM who reckons the UK is ''leading the way'', meanwhile France and Germany have actually been seizing assets. All this delay is doing is giving the oligarch's time to 'tidy up' and move their assets...
  17. SpringTime Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > PS This discussion can indeed involve fighters > leaving the UK and elsewhere to support the cause. Around the time Truss said that it was ok for UK citizens to fight in Ukraine, I read somewhere that it was illegal for UK nationals to fight in a war/conflict that didn't involve the UK. Later the Gov seemed to back this up by stating that UK nationals shouldn't fight in Ukraine. If you're not a UK national then this of course doesn't apply...

  23. If the Council can't be bothered or afford to maintain planters, then they should allow local residents, especially those that live in gardenless homes, to 'adopt' a neglected planter such as this, I'm sure they'd do a much better job of maintaining an all-year round display for everyone to appreciate...
