  2. Great news Shine. Barry's rocks! Thanks for you help.

I agree re the parking on public highway, the issue here is a planning one, and always has been. When they applied for chamge of use of their own site from business to residential, and started work on site they lost their previous use for van hire. Barry's Off Licence where they have moved to is, presumably, A1 use only (retail shop). Dulwich Van Hire, as a car hire company, is sui generis. Barry's therfore have no planning permission (as far as I am aware they have not yet applied for a change of use to encompass the new van hire business?) to allow the van hire business to be run from their A1 premises. The Planning Department should therefore enforce, or at least they shoud go through the correct procedure to apply for a change of use (of which neighbouring residents will be informed and able to object/appeal). This was raised months ago, why are they only considering this now?

  5. I had both of mine done at about 9 months with no problems.
  6. The swimming class I do with the little one at Peckham Pulse is 10.30am Thurs so might work? Nightmare to get booked in though. If you drive I really recommend the swimming lessons at Beckenham Spa - they have lots at all sorts of times and the pool is great. Another vote for Little Bubbles, mine loves it (we're 9.45 on Barry Rd if you ever do make it!).
  7. My boy howled so awfully and wouldn't calm down when I first left him at about the same age that I took him out as it was awful for us both. I had a nanny instead so he was at home. He settled in in a few days when he went back age 3 though. I think its an age thing? Having said that No 2 girl, who has a much more outgoing character is alreayd happy to run off without me at 18 months. I would have a long chat with the nursery and see what is happening after you have gone and whether he is settling. If they are experienced they should be able to support him (and you) through it.
  8. How many days a week? How many hours a day? I would count on c. ?100 a day as a rough guide.
  9. If he or whoever has a car > parked on their property then so what. Answer: its illegal (as stated above). The council should enforce. The fact if > that a lot of the pavement you walk is are private > property but the owners haven't exercised their > rights to prosecute you for trespassing. Answer: if they haven't previously prevented public access (e.g. by fencing off) they cannot enforce for "trespass" as none has been committed.
  10. Nothing to do with poshness or not, its a real obstruction on an already crowded bit of pavement (and illegal).
  11. Yes, they have now moved three of them round the corner to Henslowe. GRRRRRR.
  12. Its not lawful to gain access to property via a pavement unless you own the freehold which abuts to it, or you have acquired a legal right of access. They don't (I assume - I think the remainder of the pavement is Council owned).
  13. njc97 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Siduhe - why wouldn't he be allowed to drive over > the pavement? Its illegal. From the Highway Code: 145 You MUST NOT drive on or over a pavement, footpath or bridleway except to gain lawful access to property, or in the case of an emergency. [Laws HA 1835 sect 72 & RTA 1988 sect 34]
  14. First of all, congratulations you your decision to move. I certainly don't think you will regret it, ED is really great for kids (and we have the lovely Family Room to help you make new buddies!) Re: school/nurseries I second what Fuschia says. As soon as you know your address apply for nurseries. There are plenty around, and long waiting lists for them all as far as I know. I haven't heard reports of any particularly awful ones to avoid, so its really a case of traipsing round having a look and putting your name down. Be warned that some ask for a cash despoit just to go on the list, so question them carefully if you will realistically get a place before your child starts school. Re primary schools, this would actually influence my decision very strongly as to which property to buy. Heber/Goodrich and a number of others are good, but as Fuschia says, the catchment area is very small. I would research very carefully before committing to buy so you avoid ending up in a "black hole". There are always people willing to help on here, so do give us a shout! Mel
  15. Sorry I popped over too late to see most of you, too busy gassing with mums on the other side! Here's to much more nice weather and many lovely picnics :D
  16. I have shoved mine in the washer loads of times on a 30 degree wash before now and it came out fine. I just draped it over the line/radiator to get it dry rather than risking the tumbler.
  17. Grrrr, two enormous transit vans parked outside my house tonight. Is anything ever going to be done about this? I have emailed James Barber.
  18. We went to the Transport Museum this Sunday with our 3.5 and a 1.5 year olds, and they both LOVED it. Almost as much as I did (I think I have always had a secret desire to drive a big red bus). Just brilliant for kids as they can run about and go in everything, and its not too massive. Be warned its ?10 per adult though (?8 concessions), although children are free. Just round the corner from the 176 bus.
  19. I have - I'm afraid he had to listen to me banging on about it at great length when he had the misfortune to knock on my door the other saturday afternoon...
  20. I don't believe they should be able to trade as a van hire business withough having suitable premises on which to store their vans (not on the already overcrowded surrounding residential streets). When they applied for planning permission to change the use of the site on Barry Rd from business to residential, my understanding was that they forfeited the right to trade as a business from there, yet they effectively continue to do so. You can't have your cake (the residential development of the business site and taking the profit from that) and eat it (continuing to run the business despite not having sufficient space to do so) IMO. I'm not sure what the latest is though.
  21. Grrrr, they are parked all round us as well. I suggest you contact James Barber and see if the council enforcement officers have managed to do anything yet.
  22. I haven't been in Kings postnantal so can't help you there, but I also had SPD so really feel for you. The good news is that it tends to just magically disappear post birth (mine did after a few days). I hope its the same for you, I know how miserable it is. In fact I felt so much better after giving birth and getting that over and done with!
  23. Latitude for us as well this year with our 3 and 1 year olds. Thankfully Mr Mellors parents live nearby so we are going to dump them back with them after tea and come back in the evening for a grown up night out!
  24. I've now bought so many replacement Creme Eggs and Milky Bar eggs I can't even count them....
