That makes me so angry (the people being attacked int he park) - why on earth don't they light the Burgess Park route - clearly it would cut down on accidents (those benches and bins are a menace) and also crime. Why should we have to avoid it because the council won't sort it out and let the scum skulk about in the dark? Anyway, about to cycle through there on my way home from work shortly. If you don't see me posting again....

Here here! I cycle to work and back every day and I couldnt agree more. I don't take the baby on the bike because its just too dangerous with a trailer and I'm not a big fan of the back seat things. Its a shame to use the car though. Also - can we have a campaign to light up the pathways in Burgess Park at night - its pitch black and almost impossible to see your way through. The canal path from there to Peckham library is lit, so I dont see why that can't be. Come on Southwark!

Parking Problems when shopping on the Lane?

Or get on your bike? I've just started cycling to work (Farringdon) and it saves me at least half an hour over public transport, and is free as well :) -
Parking Problems when shopping on the Lane?
Mellors replied to SeanMacGabhann's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I walk with the pram (yes, I'm the one you hate). On the upside, we both get some fresh air, I get some exercise, and I stick all the shopping underneath the pram, so no need for carrier bags. Plus if I'm really lucky it will send him to sleep and I can undo all the good exercise by stopping for a nice coffee and cake. Parking just isnt worth the aggro. -
How completely ridiculous. I can't recommend these people highly enough: www.devonrose.com All their meat is organic, free range (mostly from Richard's farm (the chap who runs it). The meat boxes are really good value and they have won loads of awards. And best of all, no queuing!
-
I use Riverford and have never had a problem with it being left outside - stick a blue recycling box out if you can and they will put it in that to hide it. Riverford have also just started delivering meat, although I have never tried it. They also bring my milk and stuff. For meat I use: www.devonrose.com I get a box of meat delivered every three weeks and its great - all free range, organic and superb quality (from Devon!). You can specify like and dislikes (so you dont get stuck with anything you don't want), and can add to your order for no extra delivery if there is something else you want. Its good value as well. I did use Abel & Cole for a while - they have a wider range (inc pasta/rice etc which is handy). However, I found them pricey and didnt think the produce was as good quality as Riverford. The benefit of Abel & Cole is that you can specify dislikes, so you dont get stuck with beetroot say if you hate it, which you cant do with Riverford although there is nothing I dislike, so it didnt bother me!)

Just thought I would share that you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers to pay for Bombay Bicycle Club (inc delivery). ?2.50 of vouchers gives you ?10 of curry. That might help the people who've been moaning its too expensive!

Thats such good news, I was looking for her yesterday when I was out and about. Thanks for letting us know.

I like JojoMamanBebe. I think they do decently made stuff at pretty reasonable prices actually. Its certainly not designer stuff (go to Soup Dragon, Raisin or Partridges for that). Plus you can always supplement with the fab charity shops in ED or Primark/Sainsburys. I think it will be much nicer than an empty shop, and somewhere that sells maternity clothes is great, otherwise ther eis only Mothercare in Peckham with a very limited range. I think people just seem to have a downer on anything baby related, which is a bit sad. I wouldnt say that JMB is a massive chain or "Claphamy" at all - I dont think there is one there? And Snorky, I am actually from Nelson in Lancashire. Their property prices have gone up by tens if not hundreds of thousands over the last few years and they are all complaining about the posh people moving in. You woud fit right in.

They do let you take your sprogs in, but only for U rated film. My baby has been weaned on 18s and foreign art house, so probably wouldn't like Ratatouille....
-
To be fair to the yummy mummies, Peckham Multiplex pictures don't do a mother and baby screening. I think they are totally missing a trick - I've been going to the Picturehouses at Clapham, Brixton and Greenwich with the sprog to the under 1 year old showing for the last year and they are always packed to the rafters (and its ?6!). If they had done it at Peckham I would much rather have gone there as its much closer and cheaper.

I know nothing about bikes, but a very nice looking shiny new one was pushed over onto the pavement outside my house in Henslowe Rd last Saturday morning.

Ryedale is absolutely fine - pretty quiet (apart from being a cut through from Forest Hill Rd to Underhill). Handy for the Co-op and the shops at the end, plus 63 bus to City/Kings Cross. Bit of a slog up the hill after a night out on LL or if you have loads of shopping, but you can always get the P13 if you are feeling really lazy (and are prepared to wait the 30 mins or so they always seem to take to come). Personally I like the Herne Tavern - I think it serves nice food etc, but then again I have a baby, and if you dont you will probably moan that its overrun with kids, esp in the beer garden (which has a playground) in Summer.
-
I haven't actually been in there in all fairness. Which makes me wonder who on earth actually does, given that I have had beggar all else to do for the last year I have been on maternity leave other than spending my husband's money. Who IS buying their tat then?
-
I rather liked that Yummy Mummy bag in Moo 2 actually. I might just go and buy it now to annoy you all.

JoeChuff Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > move to kennington I moved from Kennington to ED - you get a lot more for your money here than you do there. Probably works out about equal if you take cab fares into account though.

Fantastic! I reckon they were too scared of the steely glares of the WI members at the last meeting to say no.....
-
You're probably asking the wrong people, as clearly everyone here thinks it is worth the money or they would all be living in bigger/cheaper houses in South Croydon! I suppose you also have to ask a) what your alternatives are if you definitely want to be closer to town (I think ED is still cheaper than other S London zone 2 areas e.g. Clapham/Battersea) and b) if you will still be able to go out etc if you have to pay the extra mortgage (no point moving here for the lifestyle and then sitting in eating Value beans). Everyone has their own reasons for moving - you have to decide whether moving here will fulfil your objectives and at what cost.

I have to ring the council st least one a week to remove dog mess on my street, despite the presence of a dog mess bin at either end of the street. Filthy gits (the owners not the dogs).

If EDF are as efficient with their electrics as they were with my house (over 3 months) then it'll be well into next year before we get either a latte or a decent brew to tuck into. Anyway, with the pouring rain and the 1 O'Clock club building being shut I doubt there'll be any punters anyway during the week. Grim.

How odd, I've been in there a few times and fed my 10 month old his lunch (home made baby food). They have never asked me to leave, although maybe they just havent spotted me?! If they did I would be absolutely furious though. Outrageous.

I was there on Sunday for the first time and was really impressed. Nice fruit and veg at decent prices (with knowledgeable growers selling themselves, not weekend staff), and got some lovely ham and a brace of partridge. Cheap as well. And reasonably quiet which is more than you can say for Borough Market. Handy to nip up and get your shopping, but not a "destination" day out like Borough.

they are still doing it (parents leave child in car)

It was probably me. I keep hoping somebody will exchange the baby for some nice shopping, but no luck so far...if only there was an M&S Simply Food I could leave him outside. -
Is East Dulwich really this Straight?
Mellors replied to mattindulwich18's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
For all of you who are sick of ED, I highly recommend a holiday home in Burnley, Lancs. Plenty of authentic pound shops, a Gala Bingo, Lidl and the highlight of the town centre.......a new Job Centre. Food options are chips, rank kebabs, and All You Can Eat Whippets. Not forgetting the memorable trip to Turf Moor Football ground to see the Clarets and eat a Baltic Chicken Pie with free salmonella guaranteed. Local pastimes include hanging out at the bus station, and betting on how many fights you will see in town on a Saturday night. 3 bed terraced houses from only ?40k (a steep increase from the ?15k they were a few years back, mind). I am sure there are a few locals who would consider a Cultural Exchange. Yours A Burnley Girl. -
new coffee bar (was Fresh New Gossip for this Forum)
Mellors replied to karter's topic in The Lounge
Bamboo is super absorbant. My babies nappies are made out of it and they are lovely and soft and fluffy. The nappies I change whilst out and about in the coffee shops of ED, natch.
