  1. Its a bit further to get to, but I also really recommend The Narrow - the Gordon Ramsey pub near Canary Wharf. The food was superb, gret view down the river, it wasnt particularly pricey, and they were very baby friendly (although no kids in the bar area). You need to book though.
  2. The Plough has high chairs, and the most baby friendly landlord I have ever met. We were in there yesterday with our 13 month old and they were super helpful and friendly. The Herne also do as I recall (and a changing table in the gents loos - hurray!).
  3. It would be a bargain at ?30 for 2 courses. At ?7/8 for a starter, then ?15 - ?19 for a main (without potatoes or veg - so another ?3/6) you;re already talking about ?25 - ?30 ish plus service, and thats without any water/wine/pudding/coffee. Its good, but it is pricey.
  4. I'd like a Waitrose rather than an M&S Food. I love their stuff, and its more reasonably priced.
  5. Hurray, another place for me to fritter away the child benefit (other than on gin and fags from the offy in Barry Rd).
  6. Or stick a wanted notice on here - I bet half of East Dulwich have a loft full of baby clobber they are dying to get rid of but are too lazy to Ebay. I got a load of reuseable nappies and a travel cot from here from lovely people :)
  7. Plus kids only stay lying flat in their prams until they are about 6 - 9 months old. You then still have another couple of years or so of slogging them about in the buggy. Maybe we should stop them breathing in the pollution by driving them about in 4x4s from shop door to shop door thus not exposing them to street level? Or get those ginormous Silver Cross prams like in the old days?
  8. *denies all knowledge*
  9. You will be relieved to know that mine was collected yesterday. No divider left, but I now seem to have two bags!
  10. Alesha to win, although I *heart* Gethin too.
  11. Independent Property Locators according to their website = another poncy estate agent.
  12. Clever Square is my old gaff mmmmmm.... If only I was rich enough for a house there!
  13. were putting all their clothes in today ready to open. Hurray! (despite the doubters).
  14. I moved from one of the Georgian squares in Kennington to ED. I loved living there but wanted more green space and a house with garden rather than a flat for the same money (drug riddled Kennington Park doesnt count). I agree re the transport though - I used to walk to work in the City in 45 mins, the tube is great, and it saves a fortune on taxis. The pubs and restaurants are great (big up to the Dog House), and you can walk to Borough for decent food on Saturdays. Horses for courses - it was great for me as a girl about town with no family, but ED is nicer now I'm a pram pusher. If you can afford it and dont have those worries, I would go for it. Watch out at the Tesco though - its a bit stabbing central.
  15. You could try trying to get hold of a compost bin from them instead (I think they are ?10 and wormeries ?5), but it seemed easier trying to get blood out of a stone when I did, so went to B&Q instead. I think if you leave leaves and that to fester over the winter in a black plastic bag they will make compost themselves by spring? I'll have your compost if you don't want it!
  16. I live in fear of getting another stroppy letter telling me I haven't divided the box, but didn't even get one of those today! I hasten to add I have been asking for another one for ages. I swear its easier just to take it myself to Peckham Rye Park. Tsk.
  17. I'm at Holborn Circus and it takes me 35 minutes (although I am really slow) - my husband does something similar in about 25 - 30 mins. I go via Peckham Canal, Burgess Park (scoot South round it at night as its unlit), Portland St to New Kent Rd, Southwark Bridge Rd, New Change then onto Holborn Viaduct, all of which is reasonably off road or quiet. You could just carry straight on at Holborn Circus and I guess it would be another 5 mins? I also really recommend the cycling maps - they're free from TfL - I ordered them online and they came in about a week.
  18. Is it just me or did anyone else not get their recycling box and bag collected today? (This only applies to people who's normal day is Tuesday, obv)
  19. I've been when I first moved to East Dulwich. Never again. Its empty all the time for a reason you know...
  20. Yes, but the light pollution that comes in my back bedroom is from a local shop leaving its fascia board lit up all night unnecessarily, not from a street light, which would be understandable. I do have a blackout blind, and curtains, and it still comes through.
  21. I cycle to work - Holborn Circus. About 5 miles I think and takes me 35 mins (I am unfit!). I go Rye Lane, Canal, Burgess Park, Portland St to Elephant then up Southwark Bridge Rd, and up New Change to Holborn Circus. I love it, although the buses on Rye Lane are horrid if you get a loads of bendy ones together.
  22. Chav is right - under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005 light nuisance is subject to the same criminal law as noise and smells. You need to take records of the nuisance (e.g. how long the light is on for and how often) and get in touch with the Environmental Health Officer at the local Council who will mediate on your behalf.
  23. So, any ideas how we can go about getting Burgess Park lit at night to make it safer? Has anyone got experience of the Safer, Cleaner, Greener campaign and how to use it?
  24. Hurray for Laura! As I said earlier I like the clothes, and found the maternity stuff fab. They are really decent quality, and last for ages, so well worth the money. I am looking forward to it opening, and am sure it will be a great success. I suspect half of those who are moaning have never bought something from there and probably don't even have kids. Bring it on.
  25. Just back from a restorative bacon sarnie at Peckham Rye Cafe and I though it was fantastic. Great food, and amazingly well set up for children. They were even super nice when my baby puked on the floor (!). I will be back there lots, I loved it. A great addition to East Dulwich, I wish them all the very best.
