  1. in the scene who is the viper? coulson or the press photographers?
  2. there are some really old fashioned opinions on this thread that make me laugh. microwaves have their uses and are great for veg, reheating left overs etc... using far less electricity compared to electric hob or oven. of course you don't eat a lasagne heated in a microwave but for heating frozen veg it's obviously a winner and as nutritional as if steamed. a ready meal that is good and leaves you wanting for more? well many M&S ones from the bistro range or their new 'posh pot noodles' or as they call them thai in a pot. there is a huge difference between ready mades out there, you can't compare a basics lasagne to the new taste the difference al forno one. the good ones cost more, that's the difference...and down that path lies a whole other argument. i'd love an M&S for when i'm feeling lazy ... but i certainly don't miss having one locally.
  3. of course womanofdulwich, like all things to do with babies it makes impeccable sense.
  4. love and encouragement are surely the most important ingredients??? too much pressure on parents these days, to be worrying that your child may develop diabetes because of a nutritional choice in their first year is just 1 layer of ridiculous for me. sorry, but it's more about the junk that goes into our mouths the rest of our lives and keeping that respect for the food that we eat throughout. yes, of course you can't tell if your baby is iron deficient and in my experience sadly food never helped any baby sleep longer (let's face it if it worked then we would all be feeding our kids before bed at 2 months!) BUT really, in london in 2011, with health visitors and your GP just round the corner things are never going to really go that wrong...
  5. what bothers me in all of this is how much parents worry rather than follow their instincts. fair enough if you don't feel confident but advice has constantly changed and constantly will. the human race has survived so far. i did what i felt was right for my children, they don't suffer alergies, are healthy and don't binge on junk (clearly no longer babies). i didn't breast feed and i weaned when i felt they wanted it around 4 and half months.
  6. they're damn fine hoovers miele, worth the investment. had ours over 10 years and as good as the day it was purchased. i have no problem with waitrose or M&S arriving in east dulwich. rather them than another estate agent...
  7. i had both a 'side by side' and 'upstairs downstairs' with P&T's and would recommend again and again. initially i was not happy about the seat 'below' but the children fought over who could sit in that seat thus proving to me again that children are a constant source of amazement... my twins are just 5, when i think how choice has changed since then i understand your confusion. back in *grim* 2005 it was either the maclaren (which i loved as my first buggy) or the outrageously expensive urban buggy one (forgotten full name.) my sister has just used the cocoon system and toddler seat combo and it really does work a treat.
  8. i agree jeremy and to that end i am looking to find those examples but not got the time! chrism, the problem is that they are arguing that the current build is smaller than the original build. by current i mean the derelict building and by older i mean the block that apparently was there before and belonged to the original estate. but it does seem like they are cramming far too much into a little corner.
  9. hi i hope you didn't misunderstand me: i don't like what is proposed and agree with your points above. i was simply trying to open the debate to the fact that victorian housing stock is a hard act to sit next to as it is so classic. i have emailed the councillor and stated that i do not like any of the designs proposed for the corner. good luck with the petition, i'd be happy to sign. best.
  10. i think that the idea of trying to match to victorian style is a red herring, sorry i don't mean to say that it's wrong and your point is not valid, simply that good design works with good design. look at the pompidou in paris, i'm not saying you have to like it but it works and is surrounded by absolutely classic architecture. therefore, the question is more how can these architects with the budget that the council has given them improve their designs. currently they are unimaginative and badly designed, i work in graphics and film so not in the best position to comment with regards building engineering, but to look at they're pretty bog standard. examples that i can think of where public built works alongside old school i shall have to think of, the pompidou is not a valid example! but, one thing that would be great to clarify is building materials. which are they looking to use and are they good quality?
  11. i work in hackney and the council seem to be dropping the same looking horrible block into any gap. the plans i have seen so far are not as bad as those in E9. i totally agree with you chrism but sadly think that jeremy is right, they won't listen. however they should as i thought the whole point of local building now was to 'design' out bad behaviour by designing buildings and areas that the community can be proud of. however, i realise that this is a digression off topic. either way there's still a lot to do at the junction as a whole.
  12. not received email, is the block as bland as the one that is on the corner of bromar/ivanhoe? i agree that it's better than a derelict building but if there's an opportunity to improve it should not be missed. have they planned for planting trees along the pavement in front of the new block? i also assume that bins/refuse is dealt with away from the pavement.
  13. haven't read all posts so sorry if i repeat. what i have particularly enjoyed is seeing america's shock at discovering the true nature of our royals. biggotted and in a bad mood: moi?
  14. my dad picked me up from brownies and told me. i was gutted, i loved them and grew up listening to their music. i was 9 years old and still remember it well.
  15. in general: i think tax avoiders should be named and shamed every day including companies that hide money away etc... so consumers can chose to spend where more of the revenue goes back into the UK. hence why top shop and more do not enjoy any of my business ... but as stated above this is different. in this situation: call me NAIVE but the police would not sanction using pictures unless they had a clear idea that this was going on and the picture of them stealing the goods is maybe not the most representative. this is is surely comparable to when going to a police station and there are old fashioned wanted posters. or are 'wanted in connection with' posters also not correct? hell yeah if i had my pic put up and i'd stolen nothing i'd be 'outraged from south east london' but last time i checked the police don't like spending their time dealing with 'outraged from anywhere' but instead helping the shop owners. again remind me how woefully naive i am when it comes to the met dealing with shoplifting. for gods sake they're not kettling these people :o
  16. not read whole thread but picking up on bile polo (apologies if already mentioned) i'm pretty sure there's a group that do this on the concrete pitch on the east dulwich estate. sorry can't give any more info, but looks like great fun.
  17. that is fantastic. i am currently reading bleak house and this really hits home the reality that our obsession with paper work/bureaucracy is a long one...
  18. traffic needs to be seriously considered on these streets, apparently there is a TFL grant available for the surrounding streets but not sure where anything stands. i understand that the p13 trials proved that it only really works on ivanhoe. although i guess it would be hugely unpopular what would people think of a one way system? up bromar but down malfort? or i still think a round about at junction with avondale and bottom of bromar night improve things. ultimately the problem will never change that these are narrow streets yet a regular rat run to and from peckham/se5.
  19. i have a personal hate of windows so doubt i'll ever be able to give an honest opinion about a phone using that operating system. but have an iphone and love it. all friends with androids love them but nokia seem to have falled off with the latest ones really not delivering. i use my iphone for work and pleasure and have no complaints.
  20. have you managed to shut it down? were you really copying 6800 files or did it spin into the basket ball of love for nothing? it doesn't sound like a hardware problem. when you had the chance to force quit would it shut down? or did you not try? i didn't think that you could quit finder you just close the window, it's the apps that quit?? but i was in mac support years back... any joy?
  21. regards food from iceland: the mature cheddar is not a good mature cheddar compared to say sainsburys mature cheddar. it's mild really and not got the taste of a properly matured cheese. i bought my frozen veg in there for a while, but now only peas as actually the sweetcorn wasn't as good quality. this is just from shopping around and looking for a compromise between quality and cost. as i have said before i don't care that there's an iceland but i do care about the snobbery and inverted snobbery on this site. it's no less galling to be told that you're posh than you are cheap. there's place for both waitrose and iceland, that's real choice. not one OR the other. but the neighbourhood certainly doesn't need another supermarket.
  22. sadly there was an accident on the junction of pythchley and quorn at the weekend. since i have lived on invanhoe road more and more cars park on the stretch by the empty block/cage and sadly i think that this highlights the increased risk of accidents when people are parked on the end at the junction with pythchley/quorn/ivanhoe. i have told the council plenty of times that this is a traffic danger spot and now i will add that it will only be made worse if proper parking is not considered. properly considered does not mean a car park space within the other blocks, people will naturally try to park their car outside their property. i shall email the council about this as well. i hope that this all makes sense!
  23. it's a neighbourhood with a real mix, posh poor, cheap expensive. all of you get off your high horses. great if waitrose comes, great that iceland is there. plus, don't blame the op here, troll or no troll it takes little to get this tired and boring argument going on this forum. ed is full of choice and has benefitted from an influx of new families. there's still choice, the fry up sits alongside the palmerston etc.. all of you sound like squabbling kids in the playground. only in england in 2010 would you still have a class war going on.
  24. this was in the guardian the other day http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/oct/11/vaccination-fears-developing-world-deaths not to fan flames of previous threads (plus i didn't fully read the article) but it's interesting...
  25. i don't know if you all got the letter but councillors are doing door to door this weekend in the surrounding streets.
