  1. I don't have any first hand experience but I have heard the new head is good and has actually improved on some areas - this particular parent said communication between school and parents is now a lot better than before and parents are really happy with the new head. Would love to hear more feedback as I would like to send my children there when the time comes in 2 years (Sadly I don't think the bulge this year will be good for us as there will be lots more places going to sibilings then) All the best with your decision Anna, it's a tough one but whatever u choose your children will be going to an excellent school so congratulations! x
  2. Hi, I would be interested in knowing if you got any feedback good or bad? I was also planning on sending my daughter there but have since heard mixed reviews too, so I'm following this thread as well hoping to get a better picture...
  3. I had a young girl, supposedly ADT rep, call on my door in Forest Hill, asking to come in to see if we qualified for some free ADT equipment that they are giving away in this area....I pointed out I already have an ADT alarm (she had failed to see it) and I also have a no-cold callers sign on the door. She apologised and said her manager had insisted that she knock on EVERY door. Although she was in uniform and badge my gut feeling is scam...but if by any chance she was legitimate I think ADT should know better than to call on people's doors (especially with no-cold calling signs on!) If someone is concerned about security the last thing they are going to do is let a stranger into their house!
  4. Thanks so much for all the messages, I have replied to all individually but also wanted to update here that our fabulous aupair has now found a lovely local family, so no longer available. Good luck to everyone looking and if I hear of any good ones I will post details here.
  5. Tippee Toes hire all sorts of soft play equipment and bouncy castles for parties at a very reasonabe price - see www.tippeetoes.co.uk in the Soft Play section. Kim the owner is lovely and very helpful!
  6. Just donated....I'm so happy this little boy is getting much needed support from this community...but he still has a lot to raise. Please lovely people of the EDF donate what you can!
  7. We are still on third place 27% but the gap is closing, first is 38% Keep those votes coming!
  8. I'm still swaddling at 5 months (just the arms not the legs) and although he gets out of it fairly frequently it seems to help settling so I am planning to continue for now..
  9. I just saw the post in Se23.com too and was about to post the same! All of you who love the Horniman, please vote!!!
  10. Try Sainburys ED or Sydenham, I have seen lots of Xmas themed there
  11. The Horniman is doing a carol concert in the bandstand as part of the Xmas Fayre this weekend. It's on Sun 5pm and there is lots more Xmas activities, Xmas market, Santas Grotto etc going on all weekend.
  12. The notes page in a UK passport states regarding dual citizenship that being a British Citizen does not exclude you from the obligations you may have in the other country eg military service is specifically mentioned as an example
  13. In fairness it was the PT Navigator that we were after and they didnt have - but they may have a good selection of other prams (not sure as my husband went ahead and told me not to bother). Peppermint definitively good place to go though as not only they price match but they offered to chuck in some freebies - carseat or footmuff and carseat adaptors.
  14. Thanks all! I can report back Bluewater no good for prams! Didn't make it to Croydon in the end but we went to Peppermint in Clapham Northcote Rd and it was a success. Small shop but they stock lots of models incl. all the P&Ts, very good service & they price match too.
  15. Hi forumites, We desperately need to try & buy a double pram (this weekend ideally!) Can anyone recommend any nearby large pram shops that stock all the P&T models and other brands? Particularly if tbere is anywhere near/in Bluewater or Croydon, we are going to be around there getting other bits so would be handy. Thanks very much in advance.
  16. Redmare sounds like you are doing great and you have a happy healthy baby...looking at other's advice I would start by getting your baby weighed somewhere else to cross check and whatever the result I am sure there is no harm in waiting a couple of weeks without doing anything drastic that you are not sure about (ie taking meds etc) to see if this is an ongoing issue or just circumstantial. In terms of lactation consultants Claire Kevdes at Kings has a wealth of knowledge and Im sure would be able to help - I dont have her number to hand but Im sure a search in the forum or google will help, if not I can dig it out for you. All the best!
  17. Is your little one sleeping through the night by any chance? As they always say it's ok to let them sleep through if they are putting on weight, but if they are not it would be advisable to wake them up every 3-4 hrs (a friend of mine in the same situation as you was advised this and it worked for her). Personally I started by trying to feed my 2.5 week old on demand but I was getting concerned about how much was feeding and how much was comfort sucking, as he was hardly putting any weight on. I switched to feeding every 3 hrs and now he is getting about 8 good feeds a day he has started putting weight on a lot faster. See what advice you get from GP / HV specfically for your case but personally I would not hesitate to supplement breastfeeding with formula if necessary.
  18. Thats great, sounds very promising and I have heard similar reports... I'm years away from needing to apply but (without meaning to highjack your post) very curious on how admissions work? Is it based on distance the same as primaries? Is that the same for all secondaries (eg. I remember reading here distance is not a factor for getting into Kingsdale? What do they base admittance on then?)
  19. That is horrible! Hope your son is ok now and thanks for posting your story here, I will certainly make sure that I never buy anything from them and I am sure many others won't either. That is the power of forums like this..if businesses are not prepared to treat their customers properly they will suffer the consequences.
  20. Hi ladies, any other recommendations for a good bikini waxer in the area? I am also in need of one asap and both Anna and busybee (not sure if they are the same person)appear to be away or unavailable until early September! Thanks very much in advance!
  21. itchyfeet, can't decide...reading the thread with interest to see what the most popular family cars are...in the meantime we are heavy users of Zipcar!
  22. We are also looking to buy a family car at the moment, with a big boot of course, large enough for 2 baby carseats at the back and at least enough space to fit one adult in between! We still have not been able to decide on an estate-type car or a 7 seater (they are bigger but we get a lot of visits from abroad ie without a car). But we have discounted the Tiguan as we have had reports from friends that the boot is too small (same feedback for the Ford Kuga).
  23. Thank you all for coming to the rescue as always with good advice! I thought we'd give it a go this morning and tried to sit her in the potty, which she seemed excited about for a couple of minutes. She picked it up as if it was a new toy, showed it to Daddy, and but would not sit on it or very long or wee as I suggested. She just waited until I put a nappy on and then dd the wee! Maybe she is not as ready as I thought or I am not patient / focused enough to give it the time and attention it needs at the moment.
  24. To all the experienced potty trainers out there.. I have a big dilemma and need your advice please!! My daughter will be 2 in September and she is showing all the signs that indicate she is ready for potty training, comes to the toilet with me, talks about pee pee and poo all the time and sometimes even asks for her nappy to be changed when it's wet or soiled etc. A few weeks ago I made an attempt to potty train while we were with the grandparents in Spain (for a whole 3 weeks, so I thought it would give her enough time to settle into the practice). She started off really well with a wee and a poo the first time I sat her on the potty. Unfortunately it all went downhill from there..I think we all (me, grandparents, other relatives) made too big of a fuss and by day 2 she was fed up with all the potty talk and would scream and have a tantrum every time I suggested sitting in the potty. I decided to stop and try again when we got home. Now we are at home and while I think she is ready to start there are a number of circumstances that make it not the ideal time: new baby arriving in 1.5 months, I'm going on Mat Leave shortly and her aupair who she loves and spends a lot of time with is leaving, Grandparents are staying for a few weeks followed by more visits... I know it's not a good time and I have already decided to postpone sending her to nursery until January once things are more settled. Given all the circumstances I think around March next year would be a good time to start (and she'll still only be 2.5 years old, so I guess it's not too late?) My dilemma is that she seems so ready I am wondering what to do now...is there any point in preparing her gradually? (E.g. talking about pee, poo, nappies, wet & dry? showing her the potty and sitting her on it before eg. after breakfast and before bath?) or since we are so many months away, are we better off forgetting about everything and introducing it all nearer the time? Has anyone potty trained succesfully under the above circumstances (particularly just before having a new baby)? Would it be worth trying now and seeing how it goes or are we setting ourselves up for failure or major regression when baby arrives?
