2 door cars and baby seats - difficult?
Sanne Panne replied to Sonners's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Also, bit fear focused maybe and something you don't want to think about - it's much harder to get someone out of the back seat of a 2 door car after an accident. -
How do I avoid nappy leaks on the back?
Sanne Panne replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Thanks so much for all the feedback. Over the last couple of days just putting it a bit tighter has done the trick but I'm not celebrating just yet. Thanks for offering to try your cloth nappies Molly, if it doesn't work out with the Pampers or Naturecares I might pm you. -
Maybe start taking Floradix while you wait for your test and results?

How do I avoid nappy leaks on the back?
Sanne Panne replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Don't think I want to go the cloth way although I'd need to read up on it (how on earth do you get the yellow stains out without super aggressive detergents and high temperatures??). Other brands are an option. I think Huggies have an unpleasant feel (very paper like, not soft) but if the Sainsbury's Eco ones are soft to the touch I might try those. Any other good brands? Or other ideas? Thanks! -
Can't believe I'm asking this as this is my second baby. My 3 month old needs a change of clothes after most poos (breastfed fwiw). It only leaks along the back, hardly ever by the legs as she's nice and chubby (not as chubby as my first though). Moved on to the next nappy size (from 2 to 3, Pampers) but it still happens. I don't put the nappies on as tightly as I can - can't imagine that being comfortable but they're not super loose either. Should I start putting a rolled up cotton pad at the top/back of her nappy or are there better solutions? :-S

There is a sun cover for the rear seat, think it's called Protect a Bub, I got one on eBay.

Breastfeeding friendly cafes in ED
Sanne Panne replied to radnrach's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Most places are fine during the day, I'd worry more about finding a comfortable seat. The Plough has lots of sofas. Nobody will have a problem with you breastfeeding there. -
She needs the tabs ;) Maybe get a varied diet of Tums, Gaviscon and Rennies? Seriously... I only ever heard they're harmless.

Children's book on becoming an older sister
Sanne Panne replied to Fidgetsmum's topic in The Family Room Discussion
1. Ellen, penguin and the new baby 2. Za zebra's new baby brother not 100% sure about the titles but you'll recognise them on Amazon. Both lovely books -
They're strong and lovely but a bit noisy for long pushes. Fairly easy to steer for the parent which makes a big difference. Once the kids are big enough to try to cycle themselves they're a bit hard to get going (probably the case with most trikes that don't have proper tyres). We have one of the fancy ones.

Would you go for extra space or location with 2nd baby?
Sanne Panne replied to EmmaCC's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We found a decent compromise when faced with the same dilemma: we moved to Herne Hill which has lots of playgroups and a good park/playground at walking distance - and friends/shops in ED just a few bus stops or short car drive away. HH is not loads cheaper but there are more slightly bigger houses there so a better chance of finding something. Good luck with your decision! -
What is your 2 year old's favourite toy?
Sanne Panne replied to The Nappy Lady's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Mine still loves her train track. If you have one already, some special extensions like a bridge and a station could great. -
All the very best!!!

jadal, indeed, the way I once put it on there (improvised) was definitely not safe. And thinking back, it was actually the M&P Primo Viaggio car seat from before we switched to the Maxi Cosi so I'm talking nonsense anyway. edanna, I do have a P&T :) but never bring it with me in the car - we have the Maclaren in the boot pretty much permanently and in some cases it would be great to have something to stick the car seat onto. Molly, great idea, I may see if I can find that frame second hand somewhere. Just hoping to find something cheap and most importantly compact as we already have that Maclaren in the boot too (for when we need to walk too much (or fast) for our toddler to keep up) and as we won't use it too often. Thanks :)

I have a Maclaren Techno XLR buggy and wonder if I can attach a 0-12 month Maxi Cosi to it (a new Isofix type). Looked for click-on adaptors online but couldn't find any, maybe I'm not entering the right search terms... I know it's possible to put the buggy in the lie flat position and "secure" the car seat with the hood (forward facing) but that just doesn't feel stable enough for longer walks. Does anyone know there are adaptors that will work for Maclaren and Maxi Cosi? Alternatively, does anyone know if there are any cheap and compact frames that you can click the car seat onto? That you can buy without pushchair seat etc, so just the frame? (of course I can buy a cheap second hand Maxi-Cosi-compatible pushchair and get rid of the seat but that seems a bit far fetched)

Yup great idea I should do that, I just put the Sleep Sheep on "waves" (after feeding S to sleep (bad) but managing to put her in her cot without waking her (good), yippee!!). Sleep Sheep, yes the stuff they sell nowadays... maybe it takes less energy than a hairdryer but it's still a bit crazy. Worse, it stops after 45 minutes so you have to go in and restart it before that. There are white noise apps for the iPhone too by the way. Might start using that, you can just put your phone near the cot (on airplane mode) and enjoy an "offline" hour for yourself as well :) Hope this nap is a bit longer, if anything it's IN THE COT! Edited to add she woke up after 30 minutes sharp ;-)

Hollybush Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Hmm think I'm going to start tummy sleeping at > night as well for my little man, as he is getting > worse at sleeping after being great like your > little one! I know tummy sleeping is a controversial topic but I think it's fine if you've observed your baby doing it and have seen him/her lift his/her head and chest without problems. Only if you're comfortable doing it, no point stressing all night, you'll still not get any sleep!
-
Hollybush, she always sleeps on her tummy in the cot :)) We have an Angelcare monitor which gives me enough peace of mind to let her sleep that way. I think that's why she pretty much sleeps through the night. Thanks for all the advice so far, I think what I'll do is a combination of waiting it out and transferring her into a sling/carrier when she wakes up during the midday nap (great idea Pickle). Interesting that they "discover" or develop the need for certain longer naps at a certain age, hadn't looked at it this way. I'm not necessarily against controlled crying when they're bigger but at this age all I can handle is a little whine. Maybe this baby will be so easy that we won't ever need it (with baby 1 that was a whole different story... thankfully she's great now too). Curious to read more opinions/experiences but thanks so much for all the feedback so far!

Sounds very much like my baby, Bumpy. She's happy almost all the time, doesn't seem to suffer from the shorter naps at all. I just think it would be nice to have an hour or two that I can fully dedicate to my toddler. And to make sure she either needs no nap or only a catnap after 3pm or so, otherwise it'll impact bedtime. Our first also only did one sleep cycle per nap and only time took care of it (think it improved when she was 6 or 7 months old). Just wondering if there's another way - maybe keep her up a bit longer before I put her in her cot or maybe let her fuss a bit when she first wakes up after a sleep cycle (although so far that has always resulted in crying and I think she's way too young to let her cry) but maybe there's another "technique" I'm not aware of...

My 12 week old pretty much only does catnaps (30 minutes on average). She mostly naps in the baby bjorn, pushchair, swing (sometimes), bouncer, car seat or on my lap on the feeding pillow and I think she'd get better quality naps in her cot. When I put her in her cot during the day she tends to wake up immediately (whereas she's great there at night). I don't have time for a very long unwinding, feeding to sleep and then transferring to cot process (which I do at night when my husband is home) because I also have a 2 year old at home. Naps in the aforementioned moving objects are short because every unexpected noise wakes her up (although even in quiet rooms she only does 30 minutes most times). She sleeps very well at night (7-7:30pm till 7am with one feed between 3-6am, I don't dreamfeed) so I've never bothered too much with routines but I think it's time to get a bit more organised in order to have my hands free for my 2 year old a bit more often. Can't use black out blinds in the room where the cot is, she's still in our room and the windows are massive and since we rent we don't want to invest in anything custom made. Few more facts... I know that: - I feed her too often (short feeds every 2-3 hours, she's breastfed) - I shouldn't feed her to sleep at night - she now only falls asleep by feeding or rocking her (hence the 'mobile' naps) I'm not against Gina at all (so advice from that corner is welcome too), just never bothered applying it and now just want to fix the naps. Any advice anyone? I don't mind one or two catnaps a day but one nice long midday nap would be good for everyone ;) Edited to add she doesn't use a dummy and since she's content without one I don't want to introduce one either (remembering the nightmares of having to plug the dummy back into my other daughter's mouth every hour at night when she was too small to do it herself...)

Silly question re: washing newborn clothing
Sanne Panne replied to supergolden88's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm not sure it's so much about germs when it comes to new clothes - the smell of new clothes makes me think there's some kind of chemical (a fabric conditioner) on it when it comes from the factory and that this could irritate baby skin. I think non bio is milder on the skin too and apparently soap flakes/tablets leave less residue than liquid soap but that's getting very picky ;-) -
They say full fat here but all Dutch one year olds get semi skimmed milk. If they get enough fats from cheese, olive oil, avocados etc you don't need to give whole milk imo.
