  1. Thanks! Someone else here has asked a similar question, so I'll share your response with them too!
  2. Anyone got any clever ideas for storing a bike indoors without causing a mess if it's raining/muddy? Probably better to go to a landlord with a plan in case they worry about their carpets. I can't think of anything other than getting some carpet shampoo and hoping for the best.
  3. Terrible news - I'm sorry this happened to you, bikes have become an essential source of mental well being as well as a mode of transport. I will say that these hangers aren't as intuitive as they could be. You have to close the lid *and* make sure the locking mechanism is put in place. Very possible that someone could close the lid and just assume it locked its self. I noticed my one being left unlocked in this way occasionally. I asked Cyclehoop to email people in my shed with a gentle reminder to check it is locked - sorry if anyone reading this happens to be in my shed - I'm not being passive aggressive, they are slightly more complicated than they appear, and break ins are a cause for concern.
  4. Hi all I have a space in an underused room that I want to turn into a working from home area. It has a strange sort of half sloped wall, and I think someone clever could build a bespoke desk to help me get the best use out of the space. Can anyone recommend someone who may be able to do this for me? Covid restrictions permitting, obviously.
  5. Its closer to ?70 for the (first) year if you include the deposit. Frustrating that they seem so under utilised. I wouldn't mind too much if the bikes were kept in there despite never being used, but to walk past empty racks whilst knowing the waiting list is years long is aggravating. Does anyone have any other practical solutions to lack of bike storage?
  6. Sorry Lumpen, I'm too far from you to join your campaign - though I have requested some more around East Dulwich road. Does anyone happen to know if/when we are getting more installed? There is a waiting list over two years long for the ones near me... Rather frustratingly, when I was chatting to someone using the sheds near my flat, I was told that the one he used (with a two year wait) had spaces that weren't used at all! Edit: You can check which hangers have spaces here: https://www.cyclehoop.rentals/
  7. If you are looking for spaghetti, East Dulwich food and wine, just down from the Tesco Express on East Dulwich Road, has some!
  8. Thanks for you help all. In case anyone comes across this thread with a similar problem looking for answers... I have one! I bought some stick on black-out blinds from Amazoon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00T9SV864/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I was skeptical about them... but wow. They are great! So much so I can see myself not getting round to buying a more permeant solution for a while. They are very easy to attach, don't come unstuck, and block out light better than some curtains I have owned! Good if anyone else needs a cheap and quick curtains/blinds alternative!
  9. Hi all. For some reason, a vaguely remembered fact come into my mind this morning. We are, (or were) lucky enough to have a bit of history right under our noses, as the streachers they used to transport those injured in the Blitz were later made into fences across South East London. Some, I think, are in Dulwich/Peckham. I wanted to see if I walked past any in my daily life, and found that there was a campaign in 2017 to 'save' or commemorate them in some way: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/campaign-launched-to-save-south-londons-stretcher-fences-once-used-to-carry-wounded-civilians-in-the-a3609751.html I apologise if the answer takes somebody else seconds to find, but I couldn't see the outcome of the campaign online, and the campaign website doesnt seem to load from me. So, were the ones at risk saved? I admit the lack of info doesn't seem positive. Likewise, does anyone know of any that may still exist? I'm not sure why, but the fact that they existed, the resourcefulness of their repourposing, and the fact that we could walk past them without knowing their history really touched me. I'd quite like to know where they are, does anyone have info?
  10. Thanks so much both of you, this is really helpful. Silly as it sounds I hadn't considered the can and sheet technique... I'll also look at purlfrost right now. Thanks again!
  11. Thanks! I saw those online, but heard they fell off windows a lot. If anyone has used any, please do let me know your experiences..
  12. To keep diverting the conversation down this tangent, I did cycle pass something the other day called the 'Winsor Antique Emporium' near the plough pub. I haven't been in yet, but it may be the last surviving shop of its kind round here.
  13. Much as I'll miss the Brickhouse, I never really got over the loss of the antique market that used to be on the site. That one, and the one off North Cross road were some of my favourite shops to visit on weekends, but we don't have anything like that now. I hope that by some miracle the site is able to host lots of smaller shops again.
  14. Hi there - sorry if this is the wrong forum (I'm quite new). I'll be moving to a flat with no blinds or curtains, or even a curtain rail, and I won't be able to get in there and measure the windows/get something delivered before the moving date. Any thoughts on what to do to stop being woken up by the sun/stared at by curious neighbours before I can get a permeant solution? Are there any shops in ED that sell venetian blinds I could pick up and walk out with on my moving day? Obviously I could pin up a sheet etc, but any more suitable temporary solutions you can think of would be great! I've decided that rather than stress about anything sensible related to my move, this is the issue that will keep me up at night, so any suggestions you can give would be great!
  15. I just wanted to add my thoughts to this thread, having gone to this Sainsburys for years - whilst it's certainly one downhill recently, and having a knack for always selling of the one thing I want (why is there always a dish on dish drying racks whenever I remember I need to buy one?) I have always found the staff to be some of the friendliest I've met in a supermarket, usually going the extra mile if you have questions. Same can be said for the Pharmacy staff, and the ones in Argos (even though they seem a bit bored sometimes).
