  1. I second Fuschia's point. They will be able to give you somewhere, just probably not where you want to be.
  2. Don't underestermate the strain of having no school, it is really rather unpleasant. It would be too risky for me, but then again im not facing that daily commute.

  4. Googled WoD, none the wiser. Unless you are referring to world of darkness or weapons of destruction. Sorry for lack of e-literacy.
  5. 'Honestly, most educators I know would be much happier taking "complex" students and social issues than pushy parents.' I agree HH. Most heads are highly able people who could be earning a great deal more elsewhere, I know this particular issue is complex but if heads in general become fair game its our kids who will suffer as teachers and heads may think its just not worth it.
  6. Found myself with 5 blue box lid tops this morning, my neighbour had 3 brown bins. Madness, where will it all end.
  7. Everything else aside. There is a shortage of primary school.heads, esp in London. Not many people are capable of such a demanding job and many highly capable teachers choose quality of life over leadership. I do worry that it may become difficult to recrut heads ed. Edited to clarify that I was trying to point out that it is a demanding job requiring a rare range of skills, not that heads were rubbish.
  8. We will, and loudly, outside Nero's house, it would have made her day.
  9. The anonymity of public forums does not always bring out the best in people.
  10. We lost a loved one last night, we are all finding out way with the grief, funeral next week, that might help people through. Feel free to comment on our grieving process, moan about the inconvenience of our parking at the funeral and score points over whatever you like, if it lets these poor people grieve for their daughter without judgement.
  11. The problem is that however much we would like of co ed there may well.be many opposed to the idea. No one wants to steam roller a campaign that may be against the wishes of a lot of the community. This is why a proper consultation is needed. If I were a mog who was keen on all girls schools I might find this thread rather threatening. The lack of people posting against the idea is encouraging but we do need to consider how to get a full picture of local demand.
  12. I had been looking for someone to repair two well loved pairs of boots that had the sort of heal you cant just replace. No Dulwich cobbler would touch them, over the years i have asked about 20 cobblers who all said they were beyond repair. A friend recommended the cobblers on Selhurst road, by the memorial, Norwood Junction, saying he could fix anything........ and by-Jove he can! He's a bit far out from LL but 8 pound a pair, they are now like new.
  13. Its just an effective way of demonstrating strength of public feeling. The local councillors can make a much stronger case if their is quotable statistical support for an idea........ I think.
  14. I would also love co-ed but we do need to ensure proper consultation and evidence of clear strong local support, this would help James and the Rye and Nunhead reps make their case to Harris and Southwark. Maybe a facebook page like the one for the primary school campaign? I'm a bit campaign shy following the primary push but it might be an idea for someone to set up a facebook group page?
  15. Fushia I agree it would be complicated but Harris are a clever bunch. A separate lower school to help the primary secondary transition, a separate 6th form, they might come up with something very interesting. Harris are also likely to support a move which came from locals as of ties them more into the community and gets parents 'on board'. Co ed would still be cheaper than building a new school or busing kids all around London. Plus there are lot of key workers in the area who might move out of London if they don't feel their children will be catered for. Now back to my breakfast in bed. Happy mothers day :))
  16. Changes to amissions policies won't do much if there just are not enough places in an appropriate local school. When the initial Harris consultation happened 5 years ago some parents of the girls school objected. The local demographic has changed and mothers of girls may well welcome their children all being at Tue same school. We also have a very vocal vibrant community of local parents who have made a lot of children who will be hitting secondary school before we know it. This is a perfect storm for change and quite realisable! A new school is not an option and not needed. We need an a lot of appropriate school places slap bang around the rye and if Harris went co ed through parent power it would have an incredibly supportive bunch of parents who would feel some owneroship of the school. It could be quite exciting.
  17. It is a worry when someone gets made redundant on ML, do check out that they are legally in the right, it does sound fishy, good luck.
  18. I think there is a gov consultation on this taking place now as there is so much inconsistency in this area. I mailed my nursery for clarity on this and have not heard back. It's a tricky thing to have to ask about.
  19. I guess the question is does ed, peckhami rye, nunhead etc want Harris to be co-ed in a few years ? I know a lot of mothers of girls who would prefer co ed but they might be the minority.
  20. Skyblue seems to be arguing for Harris to turn co ed. There is so little play space on the boys site, it would be a great 6th form while the girls school could be ks3 and 4. This may well boil down to whether your a parent of boys or girls and if you want you children to all goto the same school. Having been through primary school issues I can see the logic of starting any campaign now if we want a local co ed school ready for when the ed baby boom hits secondary school.

  25. I know i am sticking my neck out way too far as usual but is it really a good idea to be so publicly critical of a local school trying to address its shortcomings. I suppose I feel a bit strongly about this as recently I would have thanked my lucky stars to have a local school place in a satisfactory school. I don't want to make light of anyone's understandable upset, but i had hoped JB's post would put an end to this thread as there is a danger here of doing some serious damage to a local school and these matters may well be most accurately and best addressed by governors.
