  1. Yet another satisfied customer of RJP roofing; our flat roof needed solar painting, he and his team were efficient, professional and reasonably priced. We are delighted with the end result.

Still unclear why Harris 'came up trumps.' Were there any other applicants?
  3. I'm with you, Davey! Still waiting for an answer from James. Meanwhile, take a look at the Anti Academies Alliance website, under Resources: Harris Federation- Spotlight on Sponsors. It makes interesting reading for anyone disturbed by the apparently unstoppable Harris.
  4. Has anyone experience of having aluminium and glass doors repaired? We have double doors like this which tilt and open singly and together; unfortunately they tilt but now refuse to open. The company that installed them have gone into administration, so we are desperate to find qualified engineers in S.E. London. can anyone help?
  5. I moved house in June 2013, next door to a house with many flats. There were 5 aging To Let & Let signs lying in the front garden. I phoned the estate agents, and they contacted the sign companies they used. It took a week or so, but they went. The threat of the trading standards option sounds useful...
  6. I saw East Dulwich Deli advertised for sale in an Estate Agents in Lambeth yesterday...
  7. Hooray! We went through on Saturday and there was no filter; we'd given up hope....
  8. Hi Has anyone experienced the installation of solar panels recently? We'd be interested to hear any recommendations, or comments, as we're considering it. Thanks.
  9. After reading all this praise, we went to Edyta's last night. At 7.30 on a Friday (we had booked)it was empty. 3 more couples came in shortly after us. No one else. We selected 2 starters and 2 mains from the menu. The starters being soup and smoked fish. We then waited 50 minutes to be served. The other diners were served shortly before us, and when our orders arrived, my soup came at the same time as my main course and my husband's main course. His starter was forgotten, and we had waited so long we didn't mention it, as the man who served us had little English. I had to tell him to take my main course back until I'd finished my soup. The meal itself was underwhelming, and my husband's main course was not hot enough, as though it had been waiting somewhere. We felt maybe some Fawlty Towers episode had occurred in the kitchen, as we couldn't work out how a soup and a smoked fish starter could have taken fifty minutes to arrive. Yes it was inexpensive, but we were very disappointed. Has anyone else had a similar experience?
  10. Hooray! Thanks finally for recognising the increase in cyclists riding on the pavement, and having community wardens patrolling. As with most incidences of this kind, there's a sheep mentality here; as people are seen doing it apparently without being challenged, more join in. On Saturday there was a cycle event in Hyde Park, with a notice outside the gate 'cyclists dismount.' I was waiting at a bus stop nearby when a cyclist rode through the queue on the pavement narrowly missing an elderly lady who had just alighted from a bus. She said 'sorry'...!! He rode on oblivious. It begs the question. Do they know it's illegal? Those that do it seem to have assumed they have a right to the pavement and the road.
  11. Our new house has 'Sun Paradise' double doors that need realigning/adjusting. Is there anyone out there who can do this, or knows someone who can?
  12. Yet another recommendation for Richard. We needed 2 handrails in our new house; he had good ideas for the design, and we are well pleased with the finished product. He gets on with the work and his fees are very reasonable.
  13. From panic to euphoria thanks to Nico the plumber; he arrived 15 minutes after I phoned him, on a Friday evening, dealt with our faulty lav. in very tight circumstances, such a relief when the water stopped running..... He fixed it, and to top it all, for a very reasonable fee. Yet another well deserved recommendation.
  14. Any idea what this new shop will be? There's a lot of clearing out going on at the moment.
  15. 28 years with Forest Hill Group Practice; majority women GPs. Very Good. Recommended originally by previous GP in Lewisham. 28 years with Dentist PM Frost, now semi retired, recently sold the practice to 'Birchwood' next to 'The Gardens' so far so good.
  16. I agree Libretto for meat is the best, but his eccentricities mean the shop takes a looong time! Craig opposite the Plough very good, and value for money. There's also 'Flock and Herd' just opened in Bellenden Rd, opposite the dry cleaners. Terrific choice, excellent meat, priced between Craig and Libretto.
  17. e-dealer: depends how old and able you are and what you're carrying.... The point was, no warning, not even on the bus, as in 'The next bus stop is closed'
  18. We live in Kinsale Rd. right next to E. Dulwich junction. We learnt about the roadworks the hard way on Monday as we had to go up to The Gardens on the bus and walk back. The bus driver knew nothing about it either. Surely we're close enough for a letter? We haven't had one yet. And eight weeks. Yikes.
  19. Yes please! We go to the Ritzy, Clapham and Greenwich at present, but would certainly patronise an ED cinema. Why is there no response to the Police station suggestion? That seems the perfect answer. Also, the Lexi cinema sounds like a good model.
  20. Has anyone any idea if there are any plans to improve the crossroads at Peckham Rye and E. Dulwich Rd? I fear there will be a really bad accident if nothing is done.
  21. It's not in Rye Lane. There is some confusion in the planning register too- It's called 'Peckham Rye.' Written on the wall above the parade of shops next to the White Horse pub and Nigel Rd. It's where the road opens out towards Rye Common, and has recently had extraneous street furniture removed from it, road improvements, and conservation area status conferred. We are trying to improve it, not extend the brash commerce of Rye Lane proper. Are we really becoming so immune to in your face advertising like this that we don't care if it's there or not, never mind where it's put? Aren't bus shelters and massive sides of buildings enough? I find the whole principle of these panels an affront. Correction: The different names plus an error on google maps (the photo is not of 24 Rye Lane) led to the assumption that the panel would be placed as described above; however, it will be in Rye Lane outside the Halifax Building Society. Where council money has improved pavements and roads recently. It would still be clutter, unnecessary, in the way and could be a screen as there is a cash dispenser there.
  22. Environment alert! Southwark Council are allowing JC deCaux (huge street advertising company) to erect stand alone 3m x1m illuminated advertising panels for a term of 5 years on sites all over Southwark. Each one has to be presented on the council's website planning pages. Then everyone has an opportunity to check them out. I noticed one was proposed for the pavement opposite Nigel Rd, made it known to others in the area, we sent in objections and it was refused. However, another one proposed for outside 24 Peckham Rye,(Lane)next to Nigel Rd has now appeared. If you care about the environment, please go to Southwark Council website (Planning Register)and look at the proposal, ref. no. 11-AP-4185, or phone planning officer Amy Lester 02075255452 for details. If you agree with me that it's unnecessary, ugly and inappropriate for this site, please object! The consultation deadline is 11th February. Where might the next one be...? Correction: the proposed panel is in fact outside the Halifax Building Society at 24 Rye Lane. Where the council has recently improved the road and pavements. A panel there is still unnecessary, unattractive and in the way.
  23. Hello James, I walked past the Papa John's trailer again today; they've manoeuvred it into an even more prominent position, (if that's possible) any news from the council? and can we add complaints, and to whom? dds
  24. Catgirl, you said it all! i came back from holiday to find my narrow street, no front gardens, crammed with huge BLUE bins- most of the people in my street have now spent time phoning and emailing to swap or remove them, and downsize the huge green bins which are now mainly redundant. We are also still awash with blue boxes... Who organised the wholesale distribution of these bins? What a disaster! dds
