  1. Quite. Yet more burgers; how depressing....
  2. There was a problem similar to this at a Hyde Housing Assoc. in Wood Vale. I took photos and emailed them to the Hyde Management team. It took ages, but it was cleared; however like this problem, the site needs to be looked at,and changed, as scrawford suggests, so try engaging with the management of the flats. Update: walked past today, and a black mesh cage has been erected around the area containing the large bins which was attracting the extra rubbish.
  3. Give & Take closed (see original post) because their rent tripled. They'd been there 5 years.
  4. Absolutely FredCasa. In more than 20 posts above, you are the only one that has referred to the massive ideologically driven upheaval the NHS has been undergoing since 2012. We are now beginning to experience the fall out. I have been with the FHGP for 30 years, and have only very recently had difficulties similar to those mentioned. I went to the meeting last night, and all these grievances were discussed, with positive outcomes. Look out for the minutes on the website in due course, and please consider attending the meetings in future. The predominant reason for the 'drop in ratings' (very trip Advisor) is recruitment. Not in small part due to massive workload. When the previous manager left in January to take up another position, it took until late this year before a non-temporary manager was appointed.Similarly it is very difficult to recruit GPs. And here we are back to the 2012 act, NHS England et al.
  5. Sorry to break into this exciting spat about wedding dresses, but to get back to the original query, I asked them why they were closing, and, surprise surprise, it was a triple hike to the rent. They've been there 5 years.
  6. I too was initially v.annoyed at the phasing out of free bags; especially as i would have thought anything that encourages people to separate their food waste is worth the expenditure, but I think Southwark must be one of the last councils giving free bags. I also found that website which looks good value. On their website, in the section that announced the change, it states you can wrap your food in newspaper to go in the brown bin.
  7. Hear hear! Hoopoedi Also the near heart attack moment when the silent cyclist suddenly whooshes past you; how do they know we won't suddenly move into their path?
  8. Received junk mail from said school yesterday, advertising their 6th Form Open Day. I'd rather they didn't spend my money in this way, but spend it on something worthwhile for the students. Put up a poster for goodness sake. Almost as cross as when I read about other Academies spending my money on a Public Relations company....!!
  9. Totally agree! They've made a wonderful job of the stairs, landings and a bedroom, in our modern house earlier this month; We used them in our previous Edwardian house too. Is there no end to their talent?....
  10. Be aware James Barber is a big fan of Harris; when the Dulwich Police Station application was in the offing, he wrote a very cross post after I directed people to the Anti Academy website, which contains lots of information about Harris...
  11. I changed my email address a month ago and only thought today about updating on the forum.I edited it, picked up the code (from my new email inbox) when I tried to submit it in my account, it read 'someone else has that email address' yes, me. can you help?

    Ask Admin

I tried to edit my email address in 'my account' (I'd forgotten to update the details when i changed a month or so ago) It tells me someone already has that address (yes, me) and reverts to the old one. Can you help?

Still unclear why Harris 'came up trumps.' Were there any other applicants?
  14. I'm with you, Davey! Still waiting for an answer from James. Meanwhile, take a look at the Anti Academies Alliance website, under Resources: Harris Federation- Spotlight on Sponsors. It makes interesting reading for anyone disturbed by the apparently unstoppable Harris.
  15. I moved house in June 2013, next door to a house with many flats. There were 5 aging To Let & Let signs lying in the front garden. I phoned the estate agents, and they contacted the sign companies they used. It took a week or so, but they went. The threat of the trading standards option sounds useful...
  16. Hooray! We went through on Saturday and there was no filter; we'd given up hope....
  17. Hooray! Thanks finally for recognising the increase in cyclists riding on the pavement, and having community wardens patrolling. As with most incidences of this kind, there's a sheep mentality here; as people are seen doing it apparently without being challenged, more join in. On Saturday there was a cycle event in Hyde Park, with a notice outside the gate 'cyclists dismount.' I was waiting at a bus stop nearby when a cyclist rode through the queue on the pavement narrowly missing an elderly lady who had just alighted from a bus. She said 'sorry'...!! He rode on oblivious. It begs the question. Do they know it's illegal? Those that do it seem to have assumed they have a right to the pavement and the road.
  18. Any idea what this new shop will be? There's a lot of clearing out going on at the moment.
  19. e-dealer: depends how old and able you are and what you're carrying.... The point was, no warning, not even on the bus, as in 'The next bus stop is closed'
  20. We live in Kinsale Rd. right next to E. Dulwich junction. We learnt about the roadworks the hard way on Monday as we had to go up to The Gardens on the bus and walk back. The bus driver knew nothing about it either. Surely we're close enough for a letter? We haven't had one yet. And eight weeks. Yikes.
  21. Yes please! We go to the Ritzy, Clapham and Greenwich at present, but would certainly patronise an ED cinema. Why is there no response to the Police station suggestion? That seems the perfect answer. Also, the Lexi cinema sounds like a good model.
  22. Has anyone any idea if there are any plans to improve the crossroads at Peckham Rye and E. Dulwich Rd? I fear there will be a really bad accident if nothing is done.
  23. It's not in Rye Lane. There is some confusion in the planning register too- It's called 'Peckham Rye.' Written on the wall above the parade of shops next to the White Horse pub and Nigel Rd. It's where the road opens out towards Rye Common, and has recently had extraneous street furniture removed from it, road improvements, and conservation area status conferred. We are trying to improve it, not extend the brash commerce of Rye Lane proper. Are we really becoming so immune to in your face advertising like this that we don't care if it's there or not, never mind where it's put? Aren't bus shelters and massive sides of buildings enough? I find the whole principle of these panels an affront. Correction: The different names plus an error on google maps (the photo is not of 24 Rye Lane) led to the assumption that the panel would be placed as described above; however, it will be in Rye Lane outside the Halifax Building Society. Where council money has improved pavements and roads recently. It would still be clutter, unnecessary, in the way and could be a screen as there is a cash dispenser there.
  24. Environment alert! Southwark Council are allowing JC deCaux (huge street advertising company) to erect stand alone 3m x1m illuminated advertising panels for a term of 5 years on sites all over Southwark. Each one has to be presented on the council's website planning pages. Then everyone has an opportunity to check them out. I noticed one was proposed for the pavement opposite Nigel Rd, made it known to others in the area, we sent in objections and it was refused. However, another one proposed for outside 24 Peckham Rye,(Lane)next to Nigel Rd has now appeared. If you care about the environment, please go to Southwark Council website (Planning Register)and look at the proposal, ref. no. 11-AP-4185, or phone planning officer Amy Lester 02075255452 for details. If you agree with me that it's unnecessary, ugly and inappropriate for this site, please object! The consultation deadline is 11th February. Where might the next one be...? Correction: the proposed panel is in fact outside the Halifax Building Society at 24 Rye Lane. Where the council has recently improved the road and pavements. A panel there is still unnecessary, unattractive and in the way.
  25. Oh, Lishyloo, Is it your trailer...?
