  2. An update on this ongoing story... "Southwark Council?s Executive last night refused to cave in to demands from Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly that high density developments should be allowed in Nunhead, East Dulwich, Herne Hill and Rotherhithe." Full details on the Lib Dem Southwark blog: http://politicallyrestricted.blogspot.com/index.html If you support the council's position, I would urge you to post a comment to the blog or email them direct with your support. timtim
  3. Love the cheeses but what's up with the grumpy staff? The guy, who I assume to be the owner, reminds me of the Soup Nazi in Seinfeld..NO cheese for you today!
  4. I'm just glad their ugly inflatable man has gone.
  5. (Keef, I can highly recommend the fish-finger sandwiches at "The Ship" in Wandsworth Town.)
  6. Yeah this is a tough one. My wife is American, so has pretty demanding tastes in the Mexican department (a bit like us Brits and Indian food).. After reading some ok reports here, we went to check out El Paso just for some cocktails and nachos. Despite there being loads of free tables, the guy wouldn't let us stay for just drinks and snacks. So we left, never to return... Anyway, after a exhaustive online search a few weeks back, it turns out Mr Snorky, that you are right re: Dogstar - their mexican kitchen is the ONLY place in London I have found to recieve universal praise. Their kitchen used to be down the road at the Hobgoblin (on the edge of Bricky). Well worth a try, though I'm not too sure about their Latin Sunday Roast.. anyone tried it? T
  7. A good way to keep foxes away is to fill a super-soaker (water pistol) with a mixture of water and ammonia. When the cunning Mr Fox next turns up, give him a dose of the gun. He won't be back in a hurry. [Cue howls of disbelief at such inhumane treatment of cute little foxes]
  8. The Rye is well worth a visit.. Great beers on tap, really friendly service everytime I've been there, and a much nicer interior than most places on LL. I've never been in the summer, but apparently the garden is really nice. T
  9. Really? I have always had good experiences at Blue Mountain, and its certainly not expensive.
  10. We went on Friday night and agree with all the above... the changes to layout have been a great success. If you have even a minor interest in wine, you will appeciate how lucky we are to have this place so close to home. To be able to browse the shelves then take a bottle to the bar to drink is fantastic. The staff are very knowledgable and accomodating... I saw some people raising an eyebrow that there was no beer available on tap, but isn't that kind of like going to a Chinese and ordering chicken & chips? T
  11. I agree, F C Soper is great. Staff are knowledgable and friendly.
  12. I have the same problem, but travelling from Peckham Rye. My standard approach at London Bridge, in order: a) hope the gates are open b) tell the guy at the gate that I need to renew downstairs c) try the guy on the other gate d) jump the fence and get arrested ;-)
  13. 'Desireable solution' to what? I don't think this would be a good idea.. LL is a major artery for the area, and the reason why so many people come here to eat, drink and shop in the first place. Where would all the cars and buses divert via? I would support pedestrianisation of Northcross road at the weekends and expand this as a shopping area.
  14. Thanks for your post Tom, I am sure this is where I was caught out. The sttange thing is that I have seen many cars go through this section; indeed I swear I have done it myself on numerous occasions.. I don't know why this is the first time I have had a ticket. I will indeed contest it. I will let you all know how I get on. Has anyone else fallen-foul of this? Thanks, Tim
  15. I've just received a Penalty Charge Notice for failing to comply with a "No Entry" sign on Rye Lane. I emailed the council and was told the camera is on "Rye Lane, near the junction with Heaton Road". Looking at the map I think this must refer to the No Entry sign preventing cars from driving north up Rye Lane towards the station. But I have never gone this way; I always drive up Copeland Road and rejoin Peckham Rye further up. And yet there is a photo of my car number plate on the penalty notice.. Has anyone else been caught out here? I just can't figure this out...
  16. Sue: Really? The roast at the Greyhound is usually fantastic. Did you eat very late in the afternoon perhaps? Tim
  17. Polly, I think this would go down very well around LL. Whenever I have been around in the daytime, it has always been busy on the main strip, but venture too far off, and it may be quiet. Have you considered North Cross Road? This is becoming the best place for independent shops/cafes/bar in E.D. (IMHO) Tim
  18. Mark, Can you give us some information on the consultation? What are they planning to do? Cheers, Tim
  19. Beatnic: I'm intrigued - tell us more about the pub quiz in the Rye! Steve: The Clock House pub quiz is good, and is quite literally on your doorstop. cheers, Tim
