  1. I think, but don't quote me on this, that they were buildings associated with the railway line which used to run through the woods. Not sure when it stopped being used though - mid-20th C perhaps? There's the ruins of a little church/chapel too...
  2. There's a great book called something like "The Parish of Camberwell" which was written a long time ago and has loads of interesting info about East Dulwich in it - I used it years ago for a school project. It's thick and yellow and Dulwich Library has a copy of it - sorry, I know that's not much help to Helen up North, but thought it was worth mentioning!
  3. Take the 78 from just past the big junction at Peckham Rye and that goes direct to Shoreditch - from there it's about a 10 minute walk to Old Street. Not the nicest route in the world, and would probably take an hour in rush hour but at least it's fairly direct!
  4. Canteen in Spitalfields - excellent, British comfort food (roast dinners, pies, jelly and ice cream) - really friendly staff too! It gets very busy in the evening though so you'd need to book.
  5. What a beautiful cat! If it's any consolation, my mum's young cat, Archie, went missing last Thursday (she started a thread on here too and had a fab response from people), and he turned up completely fine and acting as if he'd never been away on Tuesday having caused us SO much worry! I presume you've contacted local vets etc? Lomax on the top of Lordship Lane are very good, and it might be worth letting the pet shop on North Cross Road know as well...? Best of luck with your search - I really feel for you, and know how worrying it is, but I'm sure she'll turn up unharmed soon x
