  3. *sigh* Can I not take my favorite suitcase for an early morning stroll without it becoming a topic of intense forum scrutiny?

Personally the thought of what happens if you come off a bike and smash your head on the road without a helmet makes me cringe, but I totally agree there are plenty of pros and cons, and teaching your kids how to cycle safely and to be aware of the dangers on the roads is far more important. There are plenty of bad cyclist and bad drivers out there as it is.
  5. haha nice, read it just in time :) ...as for the alternative of trying to be adults and speaking to the party concerned, where's the fun in that eh?
  6. aw wheres BBW original post gone? I missed it but it sounds worth a read as always. ...you could fill the cone with his dogs s**t and leave it on his door step.
  7. That cheeky sod, he was banging on my roof the other night claiming his black cat had been impounded (by animal welfare) and was asking to borrow 50 quid to get it back. Maybe he's doing the rounds on Barry Road?
  8. I'm not wanting to start a whole pro/con cycle helmet argument, I was just stating that from my perspective it seems odd to see people not wearing them. I understand in countries where many cycle there is a lot more awareness of them it may not be such an issue, where as back home most people drive due to lack of decent public transport and many living in rural areas so it tends to be kids who cycle, generally to and from school, then once people turn 16 they get a license and a car. I remember when I was at school helmets were not compulsory and were considered 'uncool' once they became law it was the norm and no one thought twice about it, also because there is a well known cycle helmet campaigner who tours schools with her son who was severely brain damaged in a cycle accident to convince kids to wear a helmet and what can happen if you don't, it may seem a bit harsh but I remember it having a big impact on myself and my friends. People certainly didn?t suddenly stop cycling because of the helmet rule, if people really don't want to wear one they just don't and risk getting fined. Personally I see it a bit like wearing a seatbelt, it may not stop you being badly injured or killed in a crash but you have nothing to lose by wearing it. Having said all that I agree that it's only part of the issue, teaching proper road safety and making drivers more cyclist aware is a big part of it too.
  9. Were any of them wearing helmets? I still can't understand people not wearing helmets on bikes over here (they're required by law in NZ). Even if you decide you don't need to wear one you'd think you'd at least put them on your kids. The other day I saw a young teenager biking along with a toddler under his arm (like a sack of spuds) biking along a busy main road, now that made me cringe.
  10. damm, was about to post the same thing.... or move it so that's it's in front of their driveway? Set fire to it even? and what's the bet they nicked the traffic cone from somewhere in the first place.
  11. ???? Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > ..and the murders? ...people getting enraged by the high speed traffic and taking it out on bystanders? (ok so maybe the traffic speed only applies to the dead cats and accidents).
  12. *watches with interest as the fury green maralade slithers over to the small bowl of peeled almonds and starts to graze on them* *cautiously approaches it and pokes it with a stick and is somewhat startled when it snarls at him and then moves onto the nectarine* *backs away slowly deciding that some things are best left alone*
  13. I'm guessing installing helipads on hospital roofs is a very expensive exercise, reinforcing the roof, getting lifts installed, etc. Back in my home city in NZ the main hospital actually has it's helipad in a big park across the road whenever a chopper is on it's way in they send an ambulance across to ferry the patient back to the hospital, although it's used far less often than ones in London are.
  14. Probably juts a sad indication of how busy the road is and how fast some people travel along it.
  15. More holes in that story than swiss cheese with extra holes..... So he walked from Stockwell to ED to knock on random windows for money? If he showed up to the pound and said the cash was in the car they were going to tell him to bugger off? And as AlfieNoakes said, who leaves their keys and wallet in the car anyway, generally if you go somewhere in your car you'll take your wallet with you when you leave the car. If he turns up again tell him to come back when he has a better story.

It's amazing how much quicker it is to get around the city at night, I've worked quite a few nights driving to various work sites across the city and have found that journeys that take up to 2 hours in traffic only take 20-30mins in the early hours of the morning.
  17. I also heard that doctors are now diagnosing swine flu themselves rather than waiting for test results which may be skewing the numbers a bit. I'd be interested to know how many people get plain old 'standard' flu each year, as it stands far more die from that every year than swine flu. Although if it does mutate it could get nasty I 'spose.
  18. lol, good call
  19. exactly, we kiwis are far too refined to use bizarre slang such as flamin' galah, eskie and arvo. Now I must find my jandals so I can pop down to the dairy to buy some mellow puffs and burger rings, and then call in at the bottle store to pick up some stubbies and a slab of DB for the chilly bin before heading to the bach.

I think you're confusing me with an Aussie...now you don't want to do that do you? :'(
  21. ..and then move the supermarket up the top of Dog Kennel Hill, leaving the car park where it is?
  22. I meant bad enough as in for an ignorant foreigner like myself to try and comprehend, I couldn't even begin to try and pronounce place names in Wales when I was there, I'll just stick to my antipodean slang I think :)
  23. And I thought Welsh was bad enough...
  24. excellent, time to get a comfy chair and a few beers to watch the fireworks....anyone taking bets?
  25. ok forgive the ignorant foreigner, but what the hell is that? Either I have had one too many beers in the sun or they're all speaking in reverse or something as equally obscure.
