  1. Further to my initial complaint about Barry Road speeds to Southwark after the accident last month, I have received an encouraging response (see below). I think we can be reassured that our issue is definitely on council agenda. I guess we just need to keep vocal about it and hopefully we'll see traffic calming measures put in place soon. "Following on from the 20mph review report we are currently working on a proposal for Barry Road, which will include a mixture of traffic islands, raised tables (similar to a road hump but with a longer plateau), road markings and signage, as well as increasing the number of interventions proposed in the report, to enhance the adherence to the 20mph limit. The proposals will also consider the pedestrians and cyclists that use Barry Road. Speed, and average speed, cameras are not being considered for Barry Road primarily due to the road configuration of Barry Road having many exit and entry points and, to a lesser extent, the parked cars and vegetation that would restrict the camera's line of sight. As a result the cameras would be less effective in catching all motorists who are exceeding the 20mph limit. With regard to the incident you raised, I am waiting on further detail from the Met Police that I hope will help inform the proposal. Currently we are scheduling consultation of the proposal in early September 2018, shortly after the school holidays."
  2. Agreed sally - accidents will always happen but the impact and damage done in a collision is less at lower speeds as we all know. In general, if every car was actually going at 20mph rather than nearer (or over) 30mph, it would certainly make it easier for vehicles emerging from the side roads and safer for those driving down Barry Road itself.
  3. Unfortunately there has been another crash on Barry Road this lunchtime. A car pulled out of Silvester Road in to the path of an oncoming vehicle which then rolled and landed on the opposite side of the road by the driveway to the church. Only one person was in the car travelling down Barry Road apparently but both airbags were activated and the car is very damaged - the driver I understand has been taken to hospital. I hope everyone involved is OK. I drove down Sydenham Hill this morning and noted that due to the 3 or 4 speed cameras, NOBODY does over 20mph and that road similar to Barry Road, has buses going down it and no speed bumps that I am aware of. I'm going to write to the council and I'm happy to organise a petition if there's interest. We need some speed cameras on Barry Road to stop any more people getting hurt.
  4. Just wanted to recommend Neil and his company Red Cube Metalworks after an excellent job on our front gate and railing. Neil removed the old railings, relaid a concrete step, designed, fabricated and installed a beautiful new front gate and railing in keeping with our Victorian house. Nice guy too - prompt and reliable. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. www.redcubemtalworks.co.uk Tel: 020 8305 2055
  5. Hussein and his colleague did a great job of painting our bedroom. They were professional and courteous, completed the job quickly and to a high standard. Wouldn?t hesitate to recommend. We will be using Hussein again.
  6. Happy to post about Aston's brilliant service. He has done a thorough refurb of our kitchen, putting up new shelves, re-aligning the cupboards, fitting new plinths and a unit. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. Aston - 07490 947 355
  7. I'd just like to bump this thread to say that Deborah has helped me enormously over the last few months and I can't recommend her more highly. The combination of acupuncture and massage has been a lifesaver during a rocky emotional and physical period of my life. I started out seeing her twice a week, then weekly and now fortnightly and even though I am now back to my old self again and won't need as many sessions, I will be checking in with Deborah on a regular basis to make sure I stay that way! She is warm and caring, very easy to talk to and will tailor her treatment to suit your needs. A special mention for the Chinese moxa that Deborah uses during her acupuncture sessions - it's a kind of heat therapy,I guess, that smells lovely and is incredibly relaxing. I always come out of my sessions with Deborah feeling much better than when I went in. I see her at the Goose Green clinic but I think she sees people at other locations too. Her number is 07834 767788.
  8. Bradley came to clean our windows in SE22. He did a great job and we'll be using him regularly from now on. He also does carpet cleaning.
  9. Steve came out at really short notice to fix our dishwasher. He was courteous, professional and sorted the problem out quickly. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
  10. Just wanted to add my recommendation to the other posts on the forum about Dulwich Construction. Simon and his team have just finished a 16 week project for us and completely transformed our 1930s house with a two storey extension comprising kitchen, two bedrooms, shower room and landscaping. A thoroughly professional, highly skilled and friendly team of builders - I wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future. Simon Maddocks - 07704 184 897
  11. It is truly horrible. I took cyclizine during my 3rd pregnancy (suffered with no meds for the first two) which did stop me puking but didn't take away the nausea. You mentioned diet coke - I found normal full fat coke was better - and ready salted crisps. Whatever you can manage really - it makes me smile wryly when people talk about healthy pregnancy diets when I lived on junk and not much else for 9 months! Still they are 9, 7 and 3 now and seem to be completely normal! Best of luck - hope it stops soon.
  12. Happy mummy, I am going through exactly the same thing as you as my mum has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer. My children are 7, 5 and 1. Our Macmillan nurse recommended a lovely book called The Lonely Tree by Nicholas Halliday which my (just) 5 year old has really responded to. Its about a young evergreen tree who befriends a very old oak tree who dies. The illustrations are beautiful and you could probably simplify the story for a 2.5 year old. Macmillan also gave us a very useful booklet on explaining cancer to children which is probably available on their website or definitely through their drop in information centre at Kings. I suppose the best piece of advice I have been given so far is that we are their parents, we love them and so we won't go too far wrong when trying to explain to them what is going on ie not to analyse what you say to them too much or beat yourself up about it. Good luck and feel free to drop me a pm if you want to.
  13. With my second, i had some acupuncture at The Vale which I think helped a bit. I could eat something and keep it down after a session there. Didn't do acupuncture with my third as got too weak to get out of bed during the bad months. Cyclozine helped me with the vomiting but not the nausea. It did knock me out though which was great as at least you can't feel sick when asleep! Really feel for you. It was the hardest time of my life (3 times over).
  14. Hi Fuschia Does it look like this? http://www.justjellycat.co.uk/uploads/images_products_large/3645.gif
  15. Beloved Jellycat toy dog lost yesterday early evening somewhere between Heber Road and Goose Green via Push Studios. He is cream with brown spots on him and brown ears. His one year old owner is NOT happy and the replacement which Mummy and Daddy bought him has already been rejected... Please PM me if there have been any sightings.
  16. My daughter is 4 and has this too, as did I as a child. Got mine snipped around 8 from what I remember as had a big gap between my front teeth as they came through. My daughter is complaining that her mouth is sore and is making a fuss when I am brushing her teeth saying it hurts. I think she must have irritated the tissue between her front teeth from eating something. Dentist has referred us to Kings for them to decide whether she needs to have it removed now or later. In the meantime, dentist's advice was no biting in to apples and wait for cereal to go a bit soggy before tucking in. Tbh, though not happy at the thought of her having an operation however minor, I would rather get the problem sorted now as I'm worried that we're not cleaning her teeth properly as always going gently round that area. I have a feeling we will probably be told to wait and see.
  17. Thanks Jam for the info. I will be getting all my children done. I have two who will qualify for NHS jabs but am just slightly annoyed that we seem to have slipped through the net with my 5 year old and will have to go private.
  18. Does anyone know of any private clinics / GPs in the area who offer the vaccine? I have had several discussions with Townley Road and Kings, both of whom refuse to vaccinate my five and a half year old because NHS policy states the vaccine should be offered to newborn babies and can be given to any additional children aged 1 - 5 (apparently not inclusive.) Thanks
  19. Poor you Jayd. I am just coming to the end of my 3rd hyperemesis pregnancy and can honestly say I know exactly how you are feeling and how miserable it is. There is lots of good advice in the posts above. Only things I would add is that I really suggest you see your GP as you are quite possibly dehydrated and, although the baby seems to magically get all the nutrients they need, you don't and I had serious problems after birth with nutritional deficiencies, anaemia etc. It may help, even if you don't want to take any anti-emitic meds, just to make your GP aware of the situation so they can monitor you post birth as well. My midwife this time round is lovely but her knowledge is limited but my GP was fantastic and prescibed me cyclizine for this pregnancy which did stop the vomiting. I was like you around 14 weeks - went a full 24 hrs without keeping anything down. Although I was very reluctant to take any medication, it was either that or do harm to both me and the baby and be hospitalised. Other things to suggest: - take a good multi vitamin to prevent you getting too run down. I couldn't swallow any tablets during the worst months but did manage to get Berocca down (one of those fizzy tablets you dissolve in water) and it's safe for PG women. - tap water tastes like metal when I'm pregnant and made me vomit at the height of my sickness. If you are the same try bottled water, or mix water with squash. Whatever works for you. Somebody else also mentioned full fat coke which did the trick for me too! - as gross as it sounds, try to eat as soon as you've vomited. I usually got about 10 minutes respite after a good puke (sorry!) and it was a good time to try to get some toast or cereal down. - Mumsnet.com Talk section has lots of posts on HG. You are certainly not alone! In answer to your question as to when the vomiting stopped, 20 weeks for both number 1 and 2, 24 weeks with this one but I am sure that is because I am just older and more knackered generally!! I found it gradually wore off too - I didn't just wake up one morning and felt fine but slowly managed to eat more and my energy levels improved before the vomiting stopped altogether so fingers crossed you should see some improvement soon. And you clearly do get over it and it obviously is worth it, otherwise I wouldn't have gone through it three times!!! Good luck. BanJo
  20. Last Thursday's episode was one of the funniest I've seen! Really enjoying the series so far.
  21. Mine too! There may be a gap in the market here!
  22. We were just joking that someone would post something about this!
  23. Where is Superkids based? Do they have a website? Thank you!
