  1. Given the postings over the past week or so over the rantings of various PL managers, who would you name as manager of the year. Methinks Roy Hodgson for what he has done at Fulham with a small squad in reaching the QF of the FA Cup, semi of the Europa League and making Bobby Zamora look like a proper footballer, while retaining his dignity. Other candidates?

It is a faulted song - consecutive lines ending with 'again' - but that's somehow appropriate for a song about missed opportunity and the chance of redemption. There's an accoustic version I've heard on a compilation by a busker in New York which brings out the vulnerability in the song (Cowboy Junkies version starts well but reverts to closely to the original).
  3. Wish we could nail Joe Hart* down for a similar period. Or kidnap him. Or something. * who, incidentally, should be England's first choice.
  4. One Day At A Time - Cristy Lane
  5. Reina is a class keeper - has to be good news.
  6. Self-portrait doodles by PL players and managers (for charity) - don't give up the day job. Art Attack
  7. And a quality review.

  9. That was a compelling half of football.
  10. This evening, Peggy Sue - Fossils and Other Phantoms. A delight.
  11. There Goes My Everything - Engelbert Humperdinck
  12. Time Is On My Side - The Rolling Stones
  13. Ah, missed the all important A. How appropriate your choice was. Sandra's Having Her Brain Out - The Soft Boys
  14. OK, trying to get back on track (I think) American Gigolo - Weezer
  15. Matt - I agree that N'Gog would improve playing alongside somebody but not sure if Torres is the right player for somebody like him to play alongside - I don't see Torres as being that 'sharing'. Also I think that Kuyt is one of the players who appear to give a f*ck about the team but is used to fit round other players than use his abilities.
  16. Matt - Torres seemed only half interested while he was on the pitch but I agree that there was no reason to substitute him for a vastly inferior player. Not a great game and a draw probably the right result. As an outsider it sums Liverpool up as a Jeckyl and Hyde team with too many inconsistent performances - they don't look like a coherent team. One of the photos on BBC shows Gerard celebrating his goal and half the team just trooping off back to the kick off.
  17. Hope they fix the potholes in time for the marathon.
  18. Also with Explore, they can amend your flights so that you arrive/depart before the tour start date to give yourself a bit of time away from the group - sometimes at no additional charge on the flights. Or book land only and arrange own flights.
  19. Enjoyed that. May have to pop down the pub next Tuesday for the second leg.
  20. The mountain's now a level(-ish) playing field.
  21. Quality goal - feeling a bit better Sean?

  23. A half of two halves. Or quarters. After 20 minutes Barca had 75% possession and 10 shots. Had it been boxing, the ref would have stepped in.
  24. I've been with Explore three times and Journey Latin America once on trips - not just trekking. In my experience, they're well organised and offer the advantage of being able to go to some great places without having to do much planning for yourself. And good value. The size of group has varied between 5 and 14 with a reasonable mix between couples/singles. Maybe I've been lucky but I haven't encountered any problems with the group dynamics and met some amazing people along the way. Much of that is down to the individual, what they want and their expectations (not least of what they expect and want from the tour leaders - some people can be quite needy in that respect). I've always found that even though you're with the same group of strangers for a couple of weeks or so, you can find your own space if you want to. As for the tour leaders, three out of four were excellent - the third was a local tour leader in Thailand who enjoyed Mekong whiskey a tad too much. Edited to say that I think average age with Explore may have got older since I first used them.
  25. Rumour has been vigorously denied but I suspect he's not entirely happy there. Wasn't happy about lack of transfer funds from Randy Lerner (as he's a bit short of readies) and a recent spat with fans.
