It depends!

My first induction took well over a day (and more than one pessary) to work. Went into hospital noon on Friday, didn't have baby until early afternoon Sunday.

Second time round only one pessary was used at around 11am, had baby early hours the next day.

Hope it all goes well for her!

Hi Samstopit - well it could be a few hours (if Mum was already starting to go into labour when they began the induction), or it could be a few days (more common), if the pessary doesn't work to start contractions after 24-36 hours, then they'll start a drip to make them happen, if that doesn't work after 6 or so hours then they'll go to Caesarean to get the baby out. However all sorts of things can might happen along the way to throw this process & these timings out.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Congratulations on your impending "Auntie-hood"!

SW

I just had the one pessary, I went in at around 2 or 3pm ( cannot remember exact time) and I gave birth to my little man the following day at 3.39pm. It didn't feel that long, I actually thought it was morning when I gave birth but alas it was afternoon!

Good luck, hope you have a quick and easy one!

It can also be extremely fast. My mum was induced when she had me and it took only a few minutes before the contractions started! When the contractions came, apparently they were very heavy/intense and fast, which left my mum rather shocked as she wasn't expecting it. So it's still possible that you'll be an auntie today!

It probably depends on where she's having the baby. Kings use Propess, which is a tiny pessary that releases a controlled hormone release into the body. if not in labour after 24hrs the situation will be re-assessed. It's relatively new so there is not much publicised data. Certainly anyone who is that far overdue should respond well; but pregnancies, deliveries and babies are as individual as we are.

Hope it goes well for her.:)

She's at Kings.

When she arrived at the hospital they nearly sent her home again because she had a show the night before and had some hopeful signs. But was only 1cm dilated so they kept her in.

As luck would have it I'm meant to be going on holiday tomorrow!

    • I’m broadly in agreement with you, Dogkennelhillbilly. But why the meme? It’s a very unfair representation of Sean Dyche, a man who to my knowledge has never engaged in any culture war bollocks. From his Wikipedia entry: Dyche features in an internet meme criticising modern trends in football, in which the phrase "utter woke nonsense" is attributed to him; he said "I wish I'd copyrighted it. Considering I didn’t actually say it, it does follow me around".
    • Whisky Macs, like Harvey's Bristol Cream and Cinzano Bianco & lemonade, are a taste of Christmas past sadly lost to many. A little Whisky Mac and icing sugar whisked through whipping cream makes a festive accompaniment to stollen or Christmas pudding.
    • Legal matters are notoriously slow.  There is no rule that communication has to be via email, fax or letter. If the issue is that you want to claim damages to the property because of poor practice, you would have to lodge a complaint with the ombudsman, but surely the one to suffer the most is the “gold digger” beneficiary?    If that is not the wrong that needs righting, what is?
