You see, this is the Alan Carr method through and through.

I'm convinced he's sowed the seeds of failure into this book, such that you need to keep buying it intermittently. Have seen Mrs Mockney 'succeed' using the book a number of times now.

In the end I threw it in the bin (or she lost it somewhere if I'll be honest). She's going for the willpower method.

I've always said you have to just stop in your head, it's the only real way, and ultimately you can't trick your own head, not even with all Alan's techniques.

I did it once with willpower (succumbed after about 6 months) and the second time around used nicotine gum and pregnancy followed by trying to get fit. I think the initial thrill of health you feel after giving up for a few weeks fades and the best thing is to try and take up some exercise to get the health thrill. Ultimately you just need another less harmful addiction. I've stopped now for 3 1/2 years. Still get an itchy feeling in my fingers now and then but did once try to smoke (in self-abusive spite) and hated it so much its completely put me off - ysy! Don't even do it when I'm heading to the bottom of a bottle ...

    • In answer to your question Pugwash, the variety of foods that they offer both in canned goods and fresh. i personally no longer am a Sainsbury customer after years - feel that the quality of both their fruit, veg and fresh products ie meat, chicken, fish is not of a quality that they use to be. Agree with Sue that Co- Op does not make for a pleasant shopping experience.  On the subject of Waitrose not coming to ED - one can only assume that market research has been done by the company which makes it a non starter which, when you think about it is strange as all the big contenders are here.. Perhaps the powers to be have never heard of ED!! Maybe a Lidl or Aldi will rear their heads but somehow can’t see it as space is way to small. Really is strange that Waitrose is a non arrival - never ceases to amaze me how many eateries are in Lordship Lane alone and the majority all survive.
    • What is it that makes Waitrose so special! Admittedly I have shopped a couple of times in the Orpington and Beckenham one - sometimes buying food which I cannot get else where. Their 'basic range' is not bad. Price for price and quality - M & S.
