Jade on the Bake Off

Boulangerie Jade has a team competing on the Bake Off Creme de la Creme. Not certain, but I think they might be on this week's episode. Hope they do well.

Nice to see them through, thought they did a great job. We popped into the LL branch the other day, and they were selling the lemon meringues that they made in their heat... very tasty they were too.

Not sure if that Christophe guy is the owner... but hearing a successful business with branches in East Dulwich and Blackheath criticise "capitalism" was amusingly ironic.

You can own a business and not be a capitalist, all depends how you run it and what you do with the profits.

Only if the workers own the means of production (a co-operative or some such) and reinvest "profits" into local community. And of course everyone paid according to their needs.

There seems to be a bromance going on between Benoit and Christophe! I think their cakes are wonderful - a great addition to East Dulwich.

Debatable - and in the case of BJ, clearly untrue.

It's probably just a misunderstanding of the word "capitalism", I imagine the point they were making is that there's too much greed and inequality in the world - which is of course, hard to argue with.

Buying in order to sell on at a higher price to make a profit might be enough to make you a capitalist.

There's commerce and then there's exploitation - both can exist under a capitalist flag.

On baking though, I am completely impressed by the skills of those on the show.
